After almost a year Android Forum is back. It's been a struggle getting the database back after a hard drive crash, but with persistence we salvaged everything. When the HD died the site was just starting to take off and since I was extremely busy I had no time to get the data off the drive. I put the drive aside with the idea to see what I could do to get the site back up and running. I was able to recover just about everything. So here we are. Back for good this time.

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/24f5405d4917aa6e1eae2027cfe00622.jpg This is disturbing news for anyone who has a web-connected baby monitor. Ars Technica brings us word of search engine called Shodan whose main purpose is to give you access to live web camera streams. Among other things, the search engine reveals live feeds for "marijuana plantations, back rooms of banks, children, kitchens, living rooms, garages, front gardens, back gardens, ski slopes, swimming pools, colleges and schools, laboratories, and cash register cameras in retail stores." I have upgraded the forum software to the newest version of IP.Board. While doing so I also upgraded all the apps that run the site and added a new default style. If you prefer the old style you can select it by using the style changer at the bottom left. The old style is called IP.Board so just select it to change to that style. If you find any bugs let me know and I'll fix them as soon as I can.

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/1d558fe196cd9b2611e9d82caa3e43b9.jpg According to a new report from 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman, the iPhone 6c leak that was floating around yesterday is a fake, but nevertheless, Apple really is going to release an iPhone this spring. Rather than miniaturize the iPhone 6 or 6s, Gurman says that Apple will upgrade the iPhone 5s and give it a new name: iPhone 5se. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/45d792307e4bbed3a0af853a9c18a630.png Earlier this month, Microsoft unwittingly angered a significant portion of its user base by publishing frightening specific statistics about Windows 10 usage. The fact that Microsoft has access to this data wasn't much of a surprise, but the lack of tact continually amazes users who are begging the company to be more forthright about its data collection. Microsoft wants to know what bugs you about Windows 10, but sadly, Microsoft can't even get that quite right. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/0a9c3f749a138c6973f89fcfaa87c9b2.png Because you’re scouring app stores and downloading so many of them, I think there’s a pretty good chance you’ve thought about designing and releasing your own app. The roadblock, of course, is that you’ve got little experience in coding and you wouldn’t have a firm grasp as to how your app can be monetized. So let’s get you set up with the Mobile-First Developer’s Bundle on Talk Android Deals. It’s a very special package that contains everything you’ll need to go from zero to hero in making apps for Android and iOS devices. And beyond developing them, the bundle teaches you what’s needed t…

Recently a malicious link has been doing the rounds on Facebook and Twitter, which, when clicked, overloads the default browser on your smartphone, causing it to slow down and generate a lot of heat in the process. It goes without saying that if the bug is not dealt with promptly, your handset will continue to get hotter until it overheats and has no option other than to power down. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/6afb51a2110c6df7e539abeef9c79956.jpg At MWC 2016, LG will host an event in Barcelona to introduce a “major smartphone” that many expect to be named the company’s next flagship, the G5. Among the changes to its design will be the relocation of the volume rocker to the side while the power button, which will double as a fingerprint scanner, remains on the rear. So it seems that LG is creating a hybrid of the G4 and traditional phones. Mobile Fun, an accessories designer based in the United Kingdom, says it knows what the G5 looks like and is already designing cases for it. The only problem is that the G5 isn’t real yet and M…

In fact, the Mac today is responsible for a greater share of Apple's revenue than any of the company's other services or products, including the iPad. Looking out over the next 12 months, Apple reportedly has a few exciting changes in store for its notebook lineup. According to reputable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, and originally relayed by 9to5Mac, Apple will likely refresh its MacBook line sometime before June. …

More photos revealing the flagship’s design have surfaced, and boy does it look nice! According to the leaked batch of images, the Xiaomi Mi 5 flagship will sport an aluminum unibody design with rounded sides and corners. The design takes a similar approach to that on the HTC One A9 and iPhone 6 and 6s models. This is because of the clearly visible antenna lines close to the top and bottom ends of the device. On the bottom of the flagship lies the speaker grill along with a 3.5mm headphone jack and microUSB charging port. The right edge hou…

The company designed thought consumers would relish a handset designed by their favorite online retailer and all of the services it runs. But Amazon thought completely wrong. The Fire Phone was met with bad reviews mostly because of limitations and price. While Android was present, the software was covered with an underwhelming forked version. Owners of the handset were forced to use Amazon’s restricted app store and other software features that just didn’t add value. On top of mid-range specifications, Amazon was c…

If you search for a certain retail store, for example, and they have an app available on the Play Store, their app will show up at the top of the mobile search results. That’s actually how Google Search has always behaved, although tapping on that link would jump you directly to the app’s Play Store listing.
