As many of you know I have a few forums covering a variety of topics. I have enabled a system that will allow you to login to any of the sites in my network with your login information that you use here. Some of you have accounts on some of the other sites. If you signed up at those sites with the same email address as here then your login was merged so when you login it will use the info from here. If you have never joined any of the other sites in the network and if you use your login from here you will have to edit your profile. The only thing that this universal login does is allow you to login to any site on the network without going through the registration pro…

I have opened the site with just the members forums. This is a pre-launch for users to sign up and give me feedback on which forums I should add. I will start small and expand as we grow. For now please take the time to introduce yourself to the community and if you have any suggestions on what you'd like to see let me know. The forums are up and complete. The articles section still has default data and that will be changed as we add more content. If you are interested in being an editor to add new Android articles let me know by PM. The gallery is open and ready for submissions as are the blogs. You can create your own blog and albums right now. The downloads…

I have upgraded the forum software to the newest version of IP.Board. While doing so I also upgraded all the apps that run the site and added a new default style. If you prefer the old style you can select it by using the style changer at the bottom left. The old style is called IP.Board so just select it to change to that style. If you find any bugs let me know and I'll fix them as soon as I can.

I had to change the software that powered this community again. The software we used briefly, vbulletin 4 just isn't ready to run on a live site. My database servers are all utf-8 and vbulletin does not play with utf-8 encoding. Posts by users where truncated and partially posted or they just completely broke. In short vbulletin 4 is utter garbage and I am sorry I ever tried it on this site. This is the last time I will switch software on this site. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

We're Back

After almost a year Android Forum is back. It's been a struggle getting the database back after a hard drive crash, but with persistence we salvaged everything. When the HD died the site was just starting to take off and since I was extremely busy I had no time to get the data off the drive. I put the drive aside with the idea to see what I could do to get the site back up and running. I was able to recover just about everything. So here we are. Back for good this time.

I have changed the software used to run the community. There are some things that I am still working on and will get those completed in the next week. Things that need to be done are: Put the news section of the site back together. Add a new downloads section and import the apps we have uploaded. Find a replacement for the blogs. Import the new style for the site. It is possible that the blogs will no longer be a part of Android forum. It wasn't used so no sense in have them. If you find any bugs or have any problems posting let me know. I will get them fixed right away.

The new HTC One will go on sale ‘minutes’ after it’s announced
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
Can't wait to get your hands on the new HTC One? According to a press release from UK retailer Carphone Warehouse, you won't have to wait much longer as HTC's upcoming flagship phone will be available to purchase "just minutes after it is officially announced" on March 25th at six locations in London. There is no information from any other retailers, but this could be a sign that the new One will be available in multiple regions as early as next week, despite reports claiming the phone will launch in April. Until we have evidence to the contrary, we'll assume that this is a promotional offer, but keep your eyes on BGR next week as we head to the HTC press conference live …

Facebook’s autoplay video ads blamed for jacking up users’ phone bills
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/ad35ef3c985d72b603efc8fee907f9bb.jpg One the absolute most annoying things that Facebook has done over the last year has been to add autoplay video ads to its mobile app that can quickly rip through your monthly mobile data cap if you aren't careful. Consumer finance website MoneySavingExpert.com says that it's recently "seen many complaints from people who have been stung with data bills after exceeding their monthly allowance and who believe it to be because of Facebook autoplaying videos," which shouldn't be surprising given how much data videos consume. The website says that it's confirmed that videos are set by default to …

by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

We see countless smartphone accessories released every year but how many of them are actually useful? The latest accessory from Nokia seems like it could really come in handy, however, because it will help you keep track of all the things you're most likely to use. Nokia's new Treasure Tags are matchbox-sized tags that you can attach to your keys, wallet and other important items to make sure they never get lost. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Comcast and TWC are now even more hated after merger announcement
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Comcast and Time Warner Cable have never been beloved but the two companies' recent decision to merge has made them disliked even more. YouGov's BrandIndex has found that perceptions of both Comcast and Time Warner Cable have tanked even further following their merger announcement as more consumers are seemingly worried that the newly merged company will use its clout to jack up prices even more. In terms of perceived quality and whether consumers would recommend their services to others, Comcast and Time Warner Cable are now well below any other major cable provider in the United States. Don’t get too excited about the G3’s 2TB microSD card support
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
The LG G3 will be one of the best Android handsets around when LG finally launches it on Tuesday. It will offer buyers several interesting features including an already confirmed high-resolution 2K display, metal or metal-like design, optical image stabilization in the camera, removable battery and support for microSD cards (both features unavailable to G2 owners) and a brand new protective case with smart functions. However, the wildest feature yet on the G3 appears to be support for up to 2TB of storage via microSD cards, which appears to be a first for smartphones, at least according to LG’s U.K. site, which mentioned the specs of the unreleased handset. Galaxy S5 release confirmed for mid-March
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Samsung is going to unveil the Galaxy S5 very soon but it will still be weeks before we see it on the shelves. An unnamed Samsung executive tells GSMArena that Samsung will officially release the Galaxy S5 three weeks from now, which would give it a release date of around March 13th. This lines up with other reports we've read suggesting that the Galaxy S5 would be released in late March, although GSMArena's report suggests you'll be able to get it a week or so earlier than we'd originally thought. Man who helped draw up U.K.’s porn filters is being investigated for child pornography
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/374c8ff4f9d1fe9ecbf5d0673891a2fa.jpg To say that the U.K.'s Internet porn filter policy has been a predictably hilarious disaster would be understating things. The filters have blocked U.K. web users' access to legitimate health websites and have even censored websites of anti-pornography politicians simply because those websites frequently mentioned the evils of porn. And now The Guardian reports that the U.K.'s porn filters have been hit with yet another ironic public relations setback: One of the men who helped draw up the porn filter plan is being investigated for allegedly possessing child pornography. Elop denies he was Ballmer’s plant at Nokia
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
As tempting as it might be to believe the Grand Elop Conspiracy theory, the man at the center of it all insists that it's not true. ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley notices that former Nokia CEO and current Microsoft exec Stephen Elop was asked during a question-and-answer session on Monday to react to accusations that he was a "Trojan Horse" at Nokia whose job was solely to bring the company's value down enough for Microsoft to buy it on the cheap. Elop, as you might expect, was having none of it. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Spotify, other streaming services still look like raw deals for artists
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

We all love music streaming services such as Spotify and Pandora but how good are they for the artists who make our favorite music? The Guardian reports that cellist Zoë Keating, who releases all her recordings independently, has released numbers showing how much money she made from various sources over the past year and music streaming revenues are a paltry portion of her total income. These 14 people hold the keys to global Internet security
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

We recently revealed the six organizations that secretly run the Internet, and interesting new details surrounding one of them were recently uncovered. In a great piece over at The Guardian, the site covers one of the most intriguing security measures taken by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the group responsible for the system that maps the Internet and ensures that web addresses point to the proper servers around the world. To protect the system that maintains all of this data, 14 people hold 14 keys, half of which must be used as part of a movie-like ritual in order to entire that the systems that map the Internet remain safe and secure…

Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia’s handset business has been delayed
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
The inevitable has been delayed. According to both Nokia and Microsoft, the $7.2 billion acquisition deal will now be finalized at some point in April rather than at the end of March as the companies had previously announced. We have covered several of the regulatory approvals relating to the buyout over the past few months, although Nokia's statement reveals that the two companies are still awaiting approvals from several antitrust authorities in Asia. Microsoft confirmed the details of Nokia's press release on the official blog, noting that "the completion of this acquisition will mark the first step to bring Microsoft and the Nokia Devices and Services business togethe…

With just a few days to go until Samsung unveils its next big thing at MWC 2014 in Barcelona, Spain, more Galaxy S5 rumors and reports offer more and more details about the handset. GSM Arena has learned that the phone may be available in gold right from launch, after getting a hold of a supposedly leaked Vodafone’s inventory system which lists a “Samsung Galaxy S5 Gold contract handset.” Continue reading... Good work, Microsoft: You’ve finally sold me on the Xbox One
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
At this time last year, I was practically a guaranteed Xbox One customer. I’ve loved my Xbox 360 for years and I just couldn’t imagine making the switch to a rival platform, especially since I always thought that the Xbox 360 had better exclusives than the PlayStation 3, lead by the highly acclaimed Halo series. But then Microsoft made a truly bizarre set of public relations mistakes that made me seriously question whether or not I wanted to spend $499 on its newest console. The most obvious blunders came when Microsoft revealed restrictive new online connectivity requirements and DRM policies for disc-based games without explaining why it needed to implement them to m…
