Republicans want to let internet providers sell your data without your consent
by Guest Chris Mills- 0 replies

It's easy to feel that you have zero privacy or control over anything you do on the internet. Between mass surveillance programs, Google reading your emails, and Comcast sliding into your internet-browsing DMs, it's a pretty bad time to be afraid of The Man. But cherish it while it lasts, because Republican lawmakers are moving at speed to scrap one privacy-guarding rule that controls your ISP. Continue reading... This time Snapchat's Stories feature is the target, and Facebook's version is built right into Facebook Messenger. It's called simply "Messenger Day," and it's going to look very, very familiar if you've been using the Snapchat app for any length of time. Continue reading... The best wireless headphones Beats has ever made have never been cheaper
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
The Beats by Dr. Dre headphone brand began life by focusing entirely on show and not at all on go. The company's headphones have always been extremely popular, but build and sound quality had been sorely lacking across the entire Beats lineup, with the exception of its ultra high-end over-ear headphones. In 2017, however, that is no longer the case. The company has made tremendous progress in upping its game where quality is concerned, from materials and design to sound quality. And perhaps no Beats product better exemplifies that than the Beats Solo3 wireless over-ear headphones. The biggest downside with the Solo3 is the price, which is a bit steep at $299.99. For a …

Google just turned Hangouts into a business app that might not totally suck
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
Google has built, launched, and forgotten about so many chat platforms over the years that it's getting hard to keep track of them all. When the company has a new idea on the communications front, rather than build it into an existing app as an additional feature it usually just launches a whole new app. Last year Google launched two new communications apps called Allo and Duo, while it left its long-running Hangouts app drifting in the breeze. Today the company is announcing that it's finally paying Hangouts some attention, and it's doing so by splitting it in half and changing the way it works. Continue reading... T-Mobile raised the deprioritization on its network yesterday. Previously, T-Mobile would throttle customers using more than 28GB of data in a month. The company has since raised that limit to 30GB. 8 different Vizio sound bars are on sale right now on Amazon
by Guest Maren Estrada- 0 replies

Bose is fantastic. Sonos is great. But anyone looking for a high-quality sound bar that's as affordable as it is impressive knows that there's only one brand worth considering. That's right, it's Vizio, and the company's sound bar lineup is just about single-handedly responsible for driving down prices across the entire sound bar market — just like it did with TVs. Vizio sound bars are normally priced well within reach, but sometimes the company's products go on sale at even more attractive price points. Such is the case with eight different Vizio sound bar and surround sound models on Amazon right now. Prices range from $73 for a refurbished VIZIO SB2920-C6 29-Inch…

Google says many Android exploits detailed in WikiLeaks CIA files are already fixed
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
On Wednesday, a security expert noted that hundreds of millions of Android users are at risk following recent revelations resulting from the cache of top-secret CIA documents exposed by WikiLeaks. The documents appear to detail various hacking tools used by the CIA to exploit vulnerabilities in smartphones, tablets, computers, wireless routers, cars and other devices, allowing the agency to spy on people without their knowledge. In typical WikiLeaks fashion, the site was far more concerned with exposure and making a splash than it was with actually helping anyone. So instead of working with the companies impacted by the vulnerabilities detailed in the CIA documents, as…

According to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung is planning on investing $300 million in a new home-appliance factory somewhere in the US. The project would initially move 500 jobs to the US, and appears to be an attempt to curry favor with the new administration, as well as a pre-emptive move to minimize the impact of any border tax on Mexican goods. IBM made an entire hard drive out of a single atom
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies

Electronics get faster, smaller, and (hopefully) more reliable as time passes, but the march towards the miniature only has one logical place to end, and that's at the atomic level. IBM Research is apparently already there, and the company announced today that it has successfully managed to store data on a single atom, and it's an achievement that could potentially change the way storage devices are developed in the future. How to use Nintendo Switch controllers with your NES Classic Edition
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

If you're a Nintendo superfan, there's a chance you have two "new" Nintendo consoles sitting in your living room right now: the Switch and the NES Classic Edition. Both are great systems with notable flaws, but the biggest issue with the NES Classic Edition is the length of the wired controller that comes in the box. Thankfully, if you bought a Switch as well, you can actually use your Joy-Con controllers or your Pro Controller with your NES Classic. All you need is a cheap wireless dongle and a firmware update. iPhone users are going to want Twitter’s latest update
by Guest Chris Mills- 0 replies
There's a new Twitter update out today. I know this news normally ranks just above the latest Windows Update in terms of interest, but the new version of the app brings a feature that could clean out a whole bunch of space on your iPhone. The update adds storage options to the Twitter app. If you go to Settings-->Storage, you can see what content you currently have cached. I didn't even know that Twitter cached any more data than a couple recent tweets, so I was a little shocked (and just a touch annoyed) to see it's been hogging a couple hundred megabytes.
