5 games you should try if you’re a fan of Nintendo’s ‘Fire Emblem Heroes’
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
Last week, Fire Emblem Heroes arrived on the iOS App Store and Android's Google Play. Not only is it Nintendo's latest mobile release, but it's also the latest in a long line of mobile titles known as "gacha" games. The trademark of a gacha game is that you have to "pull" characters from a virtual slot machine of sorts in order to put together a team that you can use to work your way through the game. Gacha games often shower players with premium currency early on in order to get them hooked, but once they reach more difficult levels later in the game, they have to either grind and save up, or spend a few real-world dollars to pull more characters, hoping that they're …

Matt Damon trolls Jimmy Kimmel by showing up dressed as Tom Brady
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Jimmy Kimmel’s (fake) feud with Matt Damon is well documented, and it’s an incredibly fun fight to watch. For years, Damon has been trying to get on Kimmel’s show to no avail. Kimmel has consistently refused to invite Damon to his Jimmy Kimmel Live! show, citing certain personal reasons, while Damon kept trying to sneak in. What better way to do it than pretending you’re Tom Brady, the guy who just engineered one of the most sensational comebacks in sports history? Continue reading... This supermassive black hole slowly consumed a gigantic star for a full decade
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
Black holes are scary things. They suck in everything within their reach, and there's no escaping their pull, even for something as massive as a star. When scientists have been lucky enough to spot a star being sucked in by a black hole the process is usually very quick — in astronomical terms, at least — with the "meal" wrapping up within about a year of Earth time. But sometimes the event last much, much longer, and researchers recently detailed their observation of a star so massive that when a nearby black hole ferociously tore it apart and devoured it, it took well over a decade. Why Trump’s Muslim ban won’t prevent home-grown ISIS attacks
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Donald Trump keeps repeating that his Muslim ban executive order will prevent the “bad dudes” from entering American and then perform various acts of terrorism. Even if increased vetting procedures might prevent would-be terrorists to enter the country, it’s likely this heavily contested immigration policy will not actually prevent any of the remote-controlled ISIS attacks that might target locations in the US. A new extensive report reveals that ISIS has dramatically changed the way it plans and executes its attack in recent years. Rather than requiring radicalized volunteers to travel to Syria to pledge their allegiance, ISIS is recruiting members directly from the c…

The iPhone 8 could be the first step to making Apple great again
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Apple celebrates the iPhone's 10th anniversary this year, a product that revolutionized the smartphone business. And Apple’s iPhone has been “doomed” for as many years, with plenty of pundits predicting the iPhone's imminent demise — that all happened while many of Apple’s competitors saw their own destruction, including Palm, Nokia, BlackBerry, and Microsoft. In 2016 the inevitable happened, and Apple shipped fewer iPhones than a year before, drawing more criticism from some people. But Apple’s about to experience a series of upgrade cycles like never before, and it’s all starting with the iPhone 8. Continue reading... Trending right now: The Mars rover just…

With all the talk about smartwatches in recent years maybe it's time for us to all just take a moment to appreciate how awesome old — really, really old — timekeeping technology actually was. 250,000 smartphones light up the night in massive anti-corruption protests in Romania
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
The week-long anti-corruption protests in Romania culminated on Sunday with a huge gathering of people in the country’s capital and surrounding major cities. A record number of people took to the streets to display their discontent with an executive order issued last Tuesday that would have made it easier for many top politicians to dodge criminal investigations and even avoid prison time. The order was issued in the middle of the night on January 31st and then rescinded Sunday afternoon. The general public won the fight, yet protesters still gathered in the streets to convey their in distrust in the new government. As darkness set in, the crowd of some 250,000 people …

This incredible ‘Vertical Forest’ is being built right now in China
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies

How do you combat the ills of poor air quality and pollution in a massive city of over eight million people, where there's hardly room to plant new trees? You build a forest straight up into the sky. That's the idea behind the Nanjing Vertical Forest, which is scheduled to be fully built by 2018, and will bring thousands of trees and shrubs into the highly populated Pukou District of the city, absorbing tons of CO2 and producing a wealth of oxygen at the same time. South Korea to impose tougher battery safety rules after Galaxy Note 7 investigation
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Samsung a few weeks ago explained that two distinct battery issues caused the numerous Galaxy Note 7 fires last year that prompted Samsung to recall and then discontinue the phablet. Samsung conceded that other factors may have favored the explosions, including its desire to cram a larger battery in a thinner phone and the lack of more adequate quality assurance tests. Samsung vowed to take additional steps to prevent similar accidents in the future, including a new 8-point battery testing procedure. But it’s not just Samsung that’s looking to ensure its phones won’t explode in the future. The South Korean government concluded its own Galaxy Note 7 investigation and an…

2016 was noteworthy for countless reasons, among which include a record high number of cyberattacks perpetuated across the web. During last year alone, hackers stole over 2 billion records from countless targets — with many comprising the world’s biggest corporations and organizations. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the biggest data breaches: Yahoo suffered from the largest hack in history, with 500 million affected accounts, and its property Tumblr saw 65 million accounts get compromised. Meanwhile, LinkedIn revealed it had 117 million accounts stolen, while MySpace admitted that hackers had gotten ahold of the logins to 427 million accounts. Continue reading...…

The 2016 NFL season is over and Super Bowl Sunday has finally arrived. On Sunday, February 5th at 3:30PM PT / 6:30PM ET, the Atlanta Falcons will face off against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. While this will be the Patriots' seventh Super Bowl appearance since 2000, the Falcons haven't been since 1999. In fact, that was Atlanta's only appearance to date, and they lost. But nearly two decades later, the Falcons have stormed back to the title game, with QB Matt Ryan being named NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year after setting Falcons franchise records for passing yards, touchdowns and more. The question is, will it be …
