We finally know why the Galaxy Note 7 loved burning up
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
The Galaxy Note 8 is finally official, and all the rumors that preceded Samsung’s Wednesday event turned out to be true, including battery details. Yes, the Galaxy Note 8’s battery will inevitably be compared to the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, although we probably know the conclusion: the new Note’s battery must be just as safe as the Galaxy S8’s. But Samsung’s Note 8 event also helps us better understand what happened last year and seems to confirm one of the real reasons why the Galaxy Note 8 exploded. Continue reading... Stop blaming the Sun for global warming
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
The Earth is getting warmer and warmer, and scientists are now essentially unanimous in their opinion that humans are to blame, but could other factors also be contributing? A new study looked closely at whether or not our sun could also being playing a role in how hot it's getting here on our planet. As far as the results go, well, if you're looking something that excuses humanity's impact on global warming, the sun most definitely isn't it. Continue reading... These hovering gyro-busses could be the future of transportation
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies

It's become pretty clear that flying cars aren't going to be a thing for a long, long time, so how exactly are modern cities going to solve the problem of public transportation as populations continue to boom? Engineering firm Dahir Insaat believes it has the answer, and while it doesn't fly, it's just as futuristic. The company, and chief inventor Dahir Semenov, believe gyroscope-equipped vehicles are the answer, and boy do they look weird. Continue reading... Samsung's played its last hand in the 2017 smartphone battle. The Galaxy Note 8 has finally been unveiled, and in all fairness, it's doesn't look half-bad. But put it next to an iPhone 8, and you can immediately see why Samsung's going to lose this round. Continue reading... This October, it will have been ten years since Half-Life 2: Episode Two was released, kicking off what would become a decade-long hiatus for one of the most beloved first-person shooter franchises of all time. It is still unclear if Valve has any plans to revive the series in the future, but on Thursday night, ex-Valve writer Marc Laidlaw shared his vision for what Half-Life 2: Episode Three would have been. Owned initially by Channel 4, which made the first two season of the series, Black Mirror is now a Netflix original. The streaming giant was responsible for season 3, and the company just released a teaser trailer for season 4 that offers us six episode titles. Continue reading... Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 is already looking like a huge success
by Guest Yoni Heisler- 0 replies
Some said it couldn't be done, but Samsung somehow managed to dust itself off and emerge relatively unscathed from the unmitigated disaster that was the Galaxy Note 7. A public relations nightmare to say the least, Samsung last year was forced to discontinue and recall the Note 7 amid a slew of reports involving the device spontaneously catching fire and -- in some cases -- exploding and causing bodily harm. While the Note 7 fiasco certainly impacted Samsung's bottom line, it seemingly hasn't done much to dissuade consumers from purchasing other Samsung devices. Continue reading... Abode is a smart home security system that finally makes sense
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
It wasn't that long ago that outfitting your home with a security system required an appointment with some fancy monitoring company, a likely pricey estimate, and then lots of drilling, wire-running, and testing. Today, thanks to the exploding popularity of smart home devices, you can order a security system in a box, slap some sensors on the walls, and turn your house into Fort Knox in less than an hour. I know this because I spent a good chunk of my week testing the Abode home security system. Continue reading... Largest-ever asteroid is about to fly by Earth
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
Near-Earth objects make passes by our planet on a fairly regular basis, but the space rock that's going to cruise by on September 1st is a real goliath. Named Florence, the massive asteroid is thought to be the largest object to make such a close approach to Earth since NASA decided to start keeping records for that sort of thing. The good news is that scientists don't believe it poses much of a threat — at least this time around. Continue reading... Even Tesla engineers don’t think Autopilot is as good as Musk claims
by Guest Yoni Heisler- 0 replies
Public perception of Tesla's suite of Autopilot features has undergone a dramatic and remarkable shift in recent months. When Tesla first introduced the feature in October of 2015, Elon Musk was heralded as a modern day Thomas Edison capable of delivering revolutionary products and services that previously existed exclusively in the realm of science fiction. Since then, Musk's predictions with respect to self-driving cars have only gotten bolder. Just three months ago, for example, Musk said that the company later this year would demo a Tesla Model S driving itself from New York City all the way to Los Angeles with no driver interaction whatsoever. HTC might (and totally should) sell off its Vive division, and I know who should buy it
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies

HTC isn't having a ton of luck in the smartphone market these days, but its Vive virtual reality headset is actually doing really, really well. Now, the company is reportedly considering a move to spin the VR business off into a separate entity that it can sell to the highest bidder. This is seriously fantastic news for early VR adopters, especially if one company in particular decides to throw in a bid. Continue reading... Overwatch came out over a year ago, but Blizzard isn't giving up on its hit FPS. It's constantly updating with new maps and heroes, and there's big changes coming to some of the game's most iconic characters. Mercy, the OG healer, is getting a new ultimate ability and changes to her resurrection; D.Va is losing some of her defense matrix but gaining rockets; and there's tweaks coming to Doomfist, Junkrat, and Reinhart. Dyson’s V6 Animal, the best cordless vacuum ever, gets a deep discount today on Amazon
by Guest Maren Estrada- 0 replies

When we tell you that you're crazy if you pass up today's Amazon sale on the Dyson V6 Animal Cordless Vacuum we mean it very sincerely. This is hands down the best cordless vacuum that has ever been made, pound for pound. It retails for $500, and it's worth every penny. Amazon typically sells it in the $380 range new, and that price is a steal. Today, however, for one day only, the company is selling certified (and warrantied) refurbished units for under $215. Pure insanity! Here are some highlights from the product page: 75% more brush bar power than the V6 cord-free vacuum. Tools included: mini motorized tool, mini soft dusting brush, docking station, combination…

Netflix cut its teeth by delivering third-party content to the masses in a more convenient way than any other service around. Today, however, first-party content is quickly becoming the key to the company's continued success. Netflix is dumping billions of dollars into original content and it's paying off. Big time. As it happens, September is set to be one of the biggest months ever for Netflix original series, specials and movies in terms of volume. 30 different comedy specials, movies, and full seasons of Netflix original shows will premiere next month, and there are some hotly anticipated titles set to debut. The Essential phone essentially doesn’t exist
by Guest Jonathan S. Geller- 0 replies

So, let's just get this out of the way — I wanted an Essential phone to play around with. The high-end manufacturing and edge-to-edge screen looked like a great combination. But Essential essentially didn't want us to have one. After repeated attempts to grab a device, I offer you, dear readers, my honest opinion: Andy Rubin's start-up has as much chance of getting traction as a wet seal waddling over an oil spill.
