Kaspersky’s free antivirus software is now available globally
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

Following a year-and-a-half of testing in a few select regions, the free antivirus software from Kaspersky Lab is now available worldwide. Although it lacks many features of Kaspersky's paid product, it includes all of the "bare essentials," such as scanning files, web traffic and email, firewalls for filtering network activity, quarantining malware and monitoring activity of installed apps. This is probably the healthiest way to binge-watch Netflix shows
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Rather than auto-playing Netflix episode after episode from your couch or bed, you should exercise while you’re binging. That would be a healthier way to watch your favorite shows without feeling guilty, but it’s also easier said than done. What if there was a way to force you to exercise to be able to stream Netflix, though? Continue reading... Do you talk to yourself? If you don't, and you're stressed out, it might be something to consider. New research shows that, despite the stigma and social awkwardness of talking out loud to nobody but yourself, the act of doing so is actually beneficial to your mental wellbeing, especially if you're looking to control emotions and calm your mind — but there's a catch. Google is putting autoplay videos in Search results because hey, why not
by Guest Chris Mills- 0 replies
In an effort to out-do the FCC in this month's "who can ruin the internet" competition, Google is testing auto-playing videos in search results. Search Engine Land has confirmed that Google is running a "small experiment" in which "videos automatically play in the knowledge panel" immediately to the right of search results. This is roughly equivalent to your dog running a "small experiment" to see which of your furniture coverings is the most delicious. Continue reading... First prototype of NASA’s deep space habitat will be made of recycled Space Shuttle parts
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
Sending astronauts to Mars and beyond is something that's definitely on the minds of both NASA and other space agencies around the world, but before any scientific group can line up their budgets and make a real case for manned missions into deep space they need a feasible way to keep those travelers alive and well during their journey. In a newly-awarded contract with Lockheed Martin, NASA's very first deep space habitat will finally enter the prototyping stage, but not everything about the craft will be made from scratch. Here’s how NASA will use jets to make next month’s solar eclipse last longer
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
For you and I, the upcoming total solar eclipse on August 21st will be a pretty stunning spectacle — as long as the weather cooperates and you're in a position to catch it as it unfolds — but for NASA scientists it's also a fantastic opportunity to conduct some research. If you're in the right spot for the eclipse, you'll get a fantastic view of the sun's corona, and researchers are looking forward to the opportunity to observe and analyze it. But how do you conduct research when the actual eclipse event is so short? That's a problem NASA's "eclipse jets" are going to solve. Continue reading... Tesla’s Model 3 is one of the most exciting cars coming to a street near you in the immediate future. How soon the Model 3 will actually hit roads is something Tesla is yet to explain, and it's not just you. In fact, it turns out that Tesla has been rather quiet when it comes to sharing Model 3 launch information with the hundreds of thousands of reservation holders. Continue reading... by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

There’s only one top-tier Android phone that I’d advise you not to buy this year, and that’s the OnePlus 5. The new #NeverSettle phone has been plagued by controversies from the moment the Chinese company launched it, and it looks like OnePlus isn’t done giving you reasons not to buy the phone just yet. Amazon wants to use drone scans of your house to sell you more stuff
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
Amazon's plans to use drones to deliver your purchases is moving along swiftly, with the company having already tested the system both abroad and here in the US, but once the retail giant has blocked out the sun with flocks of its fancy delivery bots it's going to need a plan to sell you even more stuff. If a newly granted patent is any indication, Amazon is already planning a strategy to use the information about your home gathered by its drones to pitch you more products. Continue reading... by Guest Maren Estrada- 0 replies

Do you know how good a product has to be to have a 4.5-star rating on Amazon with more than 19,800 reviews? Seriously, consider all the 1-star reviews from crazy people who give things horrible ratings because UPS delivered them a day late. 4.5 stars with that many reviews is practically unheard of, but the Cambridge SoundWorks OontZ Angle 3 Next Generation Bluetooth Speaker has managed to pull off that incredible feat. How? It’s just $28 on Amazon, and yet it packs big sound that will definitely surprise you. It’s also water-resistant, and it lasts for an impressive 12 hours of playback per charge. Interview: Neil deGrasse Tyson is helping to create this space exploration video game
by Guest Andy Meek- 0 replies
When a video game that unfolds in space has the likes of celebrity astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson behind it, the expectation is rightfully set that this is not a shoot-em-up or some kind of race against the clock to find a new planet to live on after earth has been destroyed. “Space Odyssey,” the game that Tyson and a creative team are in the process of bringing to fruition -- and crowdfunding -- is a slower, more cerebral title. The imperative is not defeating an enemy; it’s, quite simply, to venture out, to go beyond, to come across whatever you find and figure out how to live well among the stars. And, on the game maker side of the equation, to be as scientif…

This $99 device transforms your MacBook Air into a touchscreen laptop
by Guest Maren Estrada- 0 replies
Sorry, Apple fans, but at this point it looks like Apple might never actually make a touchscreen laptop. The Touch Bar on the MacBook Pro is pretty cool, but it’s nothing at all like having a screen that you can touch to manipulate things. Drawing, tapping, pinching to zoom, etc… it’s fast and easy, and yet you can’t do any of it on Apple laptops. At least, that used to be the case until the Neonode AirBar Touchscreen Sensor for Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Air came along. This awesome accessory attaches to your laptop just beneath the screen using magnets, so you can easily take it off and on again. When it’s attached, it senses any finger or stylus touches on your display an…

Moto Z2 Play review: Shrinking the battery hasn’t hurt too bad
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

The Moto Z2 Play is here, and it’s slimmer than before. But that’s not a problem. Lenovo has proved, despite reducing the size of the battery to achieve a thinner design, it’s primary unlocked phone for 2017 can still go the distance for most. OnePlus explains why some OnePlus 5’s rebooted when dialing 911
by Guest Peter Holden- 0 replies

Nintendo announces updated 3DS and Switch release schedules
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
Nintendo on Tuesday morning released its financial results for the fiscal first quarter, which ended in June. As expected, strong Switch console and game sales helped the company record an operating profit of 16.21 billion yen ($145 million), a huge swing from the 5.13 billion yen loss Nintendo posted in the year-ago quarter. The company also confirmed that it sold 1.97 million Switch consoles during the last quarter, pushing the cumulative total of Switch sales to date up to 4.7 million units. With the holiday shopping season fast approaching and Nintendo promising on multiple occasions to ramp up Switch production, that figure should ascend quickly. Nintendo maintained …

This $59 home security camera has one of the $300 Nest Cam IQ’s best features
by Guest Maren Estrada- 0 replies
The brand new Nest Cam IQ is a streaming home security camera that has a very cool new feature. Using facial recognition, the camera can spot a person in your home and then follow him or her around by locking in on the face. Then it also has an awesome smart zoom feature thanks to its 4K sensor, so it can zoom in for a crystal clear look at the person it’s tracking. The significantly more affordable Lynx Indoor 1080P Wifi Home Security Camera doesn’t have a smart zoom feature or 4K resolution, but it does offer very cool facial recognition features that can recognize your family and then alert you when someone else enters your home. Here are some highlights from the pr…

Wonder Woman is definitely one movie that you simply have to see this year, and you still have time to catch it in a theater near you if you haven’t watched it yet. It’s by far the best movie in the DC Comics universe, and the kind of movie that deserves a sequel. Luckily for superhero movie fans, Warner Bros. confirmed that part two is in the works, and we now have a firm release for Wonder Woman 2. Continue reading...
