http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/24b93c2a6d6c0b9b29a2a545d51f7490.jpgWe've heard time and time again that the team behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens went through a huge amount of trouble to find actors who weren't already well-known to play key roles in the new film. They tirelessly went through audition after audition in search of the perfect emerging actors to fill these crucial roles. Of course, all those auditions would obviously make it even more difficult for actors to stand out among the rest, so we've all been wondering just how impressive the auditions were that landed the new Star Wars stars their roles. Disney et al. have yet to release full auditi…

On this week's episode, the pair discuss new Apple products that are launching this week, as well as some big changes that are currently taking place at Apple. Jonathan also makes a shocking admission when he reveals that he's having some second thoughts about... actually, we won't spoil it for you. by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/bb25c9ff9bc831bc39aff053a1a7af83.jpgEarlier this month, Instagram published a blog post on its website explaining that many of its users were missing the photos and videos they "might care about the most." Therefore, the company is planning to eliminate the chronological feed in favor of an algorithmic timeline similar to Facebook's. Instagram users were livid, and that anger has only swelled in the ensuing weeks. (more…)http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/bd25d320f622829f9be75a7e059323dd._.gif Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/fdaae7734e7e3f501ace65d5a8a2e852.png WhatsApp has some new features hitting both the production version of its app that most users have as well as the beta version of the app that some users may be making use of. The changes all appear to be focused on making the platform much more useful as a communications platform that can meet a variety of needs for users. The main WhatsApp app gets the ability to add formatting to text messages. The options include bold, italics and strikethrough. Instead of using buttons or a formatting menu, WhatsApp opted to borrow from markdown language so users can just surround the text they wa…

by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/42ce1860f7bee913f7bbc7407061d009.png Music streaming isn’t the easiest business to be successful in. There are just too many services on the market and they’re not doing all that much to stand out. So, if you’re not already established like Spotify or have deep pockets like Apple, it’s going to be very difficult to bring in subscribers and generate substantial revenue. Yet SoundCloud believes it found an opening to peel customers away from existing subscriptions, getting them to instead spend monthly on SoundCloud Go. This music streaming service, which SoundCloud refers to as “the next significant step” in its evolution, …

Up until this point, the app has only been available to download on newer Galaxy devices such as the Galaxy S7 Edge, S7, Note 5, S6 Edge+, S6 Edge, S6, S6 Active, Note 4, S5, S5 Neo, S5 Active, S5 Sports, and S5 LTE A. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/394c2218cb5e9fdb4e76c3107b35e12a.jpg As smartphone markets become more mature around the world, even in places like China that lagged for a while, manufacturers are looking for new places to apply their technological know-how to continue to generate profits. One area that is ripe for growth is in home automation, which is why Xiaomi is ready to jump on that bandwagon with their new Mi Ecosystem sub-brand. Leading things off is an interesting choice, a pressure rice cooker. The new Mi Induction Heating Pressure Rice Cooker was announced today. As part of the release, one of the co-inventors of the device, Naito Takeshi, sa…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/3232b17daabfaa3eb8139d0bcdc028a9.pngOppo keeps teasing new hardware for the F1 Plus, which is expected to be a bigger, better version of the Oppo F1 that was announced earlier this year. The latest teaser from the company seems to suggest that we’re going to see a fingerprint scanner on the device, which wasn’t present on the F1. Other rumors indicate that the F1 Plus will get a bigger, higher resolution screen, more RAM, plus a better camera. It’s pretty likely that we’ll see an official announcement soon, so availability and pricing will have to wait until then. Personally, I’m just glad more and more phones are finally …

But at least this one is a little different with its rugged design. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/0eaeba179f5032e360d00599854e1dfe.jpg The Unite Explore is a rugged mobile hotspot that can take bumps and moisture with ease. Your physical Google Wallet card is going to stop working soon

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/8ebf2d0e940a36ad602ee6bd6f135497.jpgOne of the unique features of Google Wallet was its ability to attach to a physical card in addition to the digital wallet. You had an account within Google Wallet that you could put money in, then use that physical card if somewhere didn’t accept NFC payments. Hopefully you weren’t too invested in that physical card, as it looks like Google is going to phase it out sooner rather than later. Some information inside of the APK for Wallet suggests that on June 30th, the Wallet card will no longer be supported. It makes sense from Google’s point of view, since the card was nothing more than…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/80e3bf8ed9a6aac14d5f5f5427f3e2fc.jpgBlackBerry has been a struggling company for several years, but their latest Priv seems to have put the company on the right track. That might not be enough to sustain success, though, especially if BlackBerry fails to compete in the extremely important budget-friendly spectrum of the Android market. The BlackBerry Vienna was rumored to be this other device to complement the Priv, but MWC came and went without any whisper of the keyboard-equipped phone. Some analysts seem to think that this device going missing from the lineup is signaling BlackBerry’s exit from the hardware business. Bl…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/ab753169d323df7dc03c14be73c22fe2.png The millions of people using Instagram can relax now that the company has denied it is changing the organization of feeds to move away from the existing chronological structure. Earlier today, Instagram released the following statement on Twitter: “We’re listening and we assure you nothing is changing with your feed right now. We promise to let you know when changes roll out broadly.” The switch planned by the Facebook-owned service would have made Instagram users’ feeds follow an algorithm rather than time. Sound familiar? That’s because Facebook’s News Feed and even Twitt…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/09ba1815aae1cc3cec50aad9a2d67117.jpg Before the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were announced, Samsung was rumored to be working on its own version of Apple Live Photos. Leading up to the event at MWC 2016, Talk Android confirmed that the feature’s debut was imminent. Samsung’s Motion Photo is live on the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, but the company didn’t speak about it at launch nor have they promoted it in the slightest. That could be because the media would declare it a copycat of an Apple product or Samsung intends to do more with Motion Photo in the future. Motion Photo is indeed live on Samsung’s 2016 flagship, so we’re goi…

Meanwhile, the investigation into the Belgian explosion exposed more information about those plans. Apparently, the brothers who detonated home-made explosive devices at the airport and a metro station in Brussels were the ones who planted surveillance equipment outside the house of a nuclear physicist last year. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/255276fde4aa1ac1b42a69116e432dac.pngSeveral rumors in recent months have indicated that Apple is planning to give its flagship phone an AMOLED display sometime within the next couple of years. Although rival manufacturers such as Samsung have used AMOLED displays in their flagship devices for years, Apple has stuck with LCD for the iPhone. AMOLED displays deliver brighter colors, sharper images and better power efficiency compared to LCD, but they're almost more expensive to mass produce. That said, it looks like Apple is now running out of reasons to not adopt AMOLED displays for its iPhones because they're now cheaper to produ…

At the core of Apple's dispute with the FBI was the bureau's demand that Apple write an entirely new version of iOS that would effectively bypass built-in iOS security mechanisms. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/26b16ab259ae4bb41e1c1c0b07e0bb3d.jpgApple's battle with the FBI has at long last come to a conclusion. On Monday afternoon, the DOJ asked a California judge to vacate a previous order which would have forced Apple to create a modified version of iOS. According to today's court filing, the DOJ's decision to put a halt to all pending legal action came after the FBI successfully managed to access the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino terrorists. As we reported last week, it appears that the FBI managed to bypass iOS' security mechanisms with the help of an Israeli company called Cellebrite. (more…)http://androidforum.us/data/…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/6ddd2a88914380526763c784301af7d8.pngDonald Trump is literally the scariest presidential candidate in the 2016 race. In fact, a recent New York Times/CBS polls found that 50% of American voters said they'd be "scared" if he were elected president, while an additional 19% said they'd be "concerned" about his election. Given this, making the prospect of a Trump presidency significantly scarier shouldn't be possible... except it totally is. Vimeo user Eric Cheng recently decided to run a Donald Trump speech through Google's Deep Dream software and the results were predictably terrifying. (more…)http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMir…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/5d2606a00ba1b8eef261b441f4a3f1c4.jpgYou might know Samsung as a company that releases advanced smartphones and pretty snazzy HDTVs, but the Korean-based tech conglomerate has its hand in a bit of everything. From security cameras and lightbulbs to dishwashers and touchscreen refrigerators, Samsung has an incredibly extensive, varied and impressive product line. That said, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Samsung has an absolutely astronomical R&D budget. In 2014, for instance, the company spent $13.8 billion on R&D, a figure that far eclipsed every other company on the planet, save for Volkswagen. (more…)…

Is stock Android still the best? LG tries to convince you otherwise in new LG G5 video

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/696c4190d48b2450e060c4bce85743ff.jpgMost hardcore Android fans will argue up and down that stock Android is the only version of Android people should ever use. There is little question that devices running an unaltered Android build offer some advantages over other Android handsets. Namely, they have access to new versions of the Android operating system months or even years before other models. That's right, years — the latest publicly available version of Android is currently in use on about 2% of all Android devices. Of course, the issue of untimely updates is far more serious on low-end and mid-range phones than it is on hig…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/005f3613ff5c71a90796565e271172fb.jpg Wireless home cameras are blowing up in popularity right now, and for good reason. As long as you're connected to the Internet, you can stream live video from your home and see exactly what's going on at any given time. There are a lot of different options out there right now since this is an increasingly popular space, but a lot of them can get pretty pricey if you're looking for something with decent quality and a solid feature set. As it turns out, you don't need to pay $300 for an awesome wireless home camera. In fact, you don't need to spend $200 or even $100. For just $50, you can g…
