http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/1a0f09bcf0833851e6acdaa57b6c20cc.jpg Sources in China are indicating that Xiaomi’s next major phone to be released, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, may launch with a curved edge display. Thus far Samsung has been the only manufacturer offering devices with their curved edge displays, although the Vivo Xplay 5 just launched at the beginning of this month with a curved edge display. Depending on timing, the Mi Note 2 could hit the market as the device with the largest curved edge display to date. Details are still thin regarding the Mi Note 2. The original Mi Note came with a 5.7-inch screen, so the expectation is that the updated mo…

Yes, the creature you see above is a spider that can actually surf on top of waves and hunt for a wide variety of animals including not only insects but also fish and toads. As Mashable Australia informs us, this recently discovered critter was shown off this week at the World Science Festival in Brisbane, Australia by festival cofounder Professor Brian Greene. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/744ed397d1750c656c67b2c8316633be.jpg During an appearance at South by Southwest on Friday, President Barack Obama briefly touched on Apple’s ongoing legal saga with the FBI over mobile device encryption. While Obama didn’t necessarily take a strong stance on either side, he cautioned against taking an absolutist view on the hotly debated issue while also warning against "fetishizing our phones above every other value." http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/cdf0eb34c8495ead925a632c6e9d87ad.jpg While many corporate logos often fly under the radar, there are a select few which have become recognizable across all corners of the globe. From the swirling script of Coca Cola to the famed golden arches of McDonald's, a well-designed logo is not only readily identifiable, but can also help establish brand trust and loyalty. In a best-case scenario, a corporate logo can even become synonymous with a high-quality product or service. The impact and importance of a well-designed and carefully constructed logo is not lost on astute CEOs, which is why Steve Jobs didn't think twice about paying …

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/8dd29f56b5a47692781948cdb5363b3e.jpg The rising popularity of Netflix represents a two-pronged threat to the cable industry. On one hand, cable companies need to keep subscribers who pay upwards of $100/month happy enough to keep them from cutting the cord completely. Additionally, cable companies need to figure out ways to bring new subscribers into the fold. On the first front, the cable industry is doing alright. While the cord cutting phenomenon is very real, its impact, at least not yet, isn't as severe as initially believed. As we reported earlier in the week, the rate of cable subscribers cutting the cord has noticeab…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/29436c2b34e4f9c0a79dd41acdee8e1c.jpg If you want an unlocked iPhone 6s Plus, it'll cost you between $750 and $950. That's a whole lot of money to spend on a smartphone, even though it's one of the sleekest and most powerful smartphones in the world. But if you're willing to dial back the specs a bit, you can score an unlocked octa-core Android phablet with the same screen size and resolution for just $100 with no service contract. How crazy is that? It's time to check out the BLU Life 8 XL Smartphone, which is just $99.99 unlocked on Amazon right now. Continue reading... http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/12b4…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/5892110aa6360d204bd62551b3a0da39.jpg This past week Google surprised the Android world by releasing the developer preview of Android N. Already factory images have been made available for several Nexus devices as well as the Pixel C. With a Nexus 5X available for testing purposes, TalkAndroid’s Justin Herrick loaded up the latest version of Android for some testing and made a video showing some of the visible changes. Headlining the visible updates for most users in this latest version is the addition of a split window mode so users can view two apps at one time. The feature goes beyond viewing though as users will be abl…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/66e2e0f460727261c03b91db7fa60897.jpg TalkAndroid’s Justin Herrick received a new Samsung Galaxy S7 after placing a pre-order through T-Mobile and now we can all enjoy the unboxing process. Despite some apparent anomalies around the globe, Samsung is achieving some impressive pre-order results for their new Galaxy S7 devices. That means odds are good there may be plenty of people out there receiving new smartphones already, but if you are on the fence still, this may give a little better idea of just what you get with an order. As our video shows, Samsung included some extra goodies in the box that may help consumers feel …

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/478ca6a2fd680c99000ef012362ecc5e.jpg While the amount of plastic we recycle has grown significantly over the past couple of decades, we're still throwing far too many plastic bottles in the trash where they will end up as landfill waste. But what if there were a way to dissolve these bottles naturally even after they'd been dumped into a landfill? A newly discovered plastic-eating bacteria has the promise to do just that, although we're still a long way from knowing just how effective it would be if deployed on a large scale. The cute little robot is a clear hit with the crowds, and might grow to become even more popular than R2-D2 and C-3PO. He’s so cool that he even got the chance to visit NASA and play with the actual robot prototypes that the agency will use for space exploration missions. Here are some pictures from this epic visit. Netflix is still hurting cable companies, but the bleeding may have slowed
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/c03ff10f1a33db5d2afda9d276d32ca6.jpg Cable companies have been losing pay TV subscribers for years but some new data suggests that they've at least superficially slowed the bleeding. Via DSLReports, new data from Leichtman Research indicates that cable companies only lost 345,000 pay TV subscribers in 2015. While this is certainly not ideal, we should keep in mind that cable companies lost a whopping 1.2 million pay TV customers in 2014. There is some reason to question, however, if this really represents a turning point for cable companies when it comes to pay TV subscribers. Continue reading... http://androidforum.us…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/cf565e30a9ebceaabd07f53258e90a0a.jpg With companies like Google, Tesla and reportedly Apple working on delivering autonomous vehicle technology to the masses, traditional auto manufacturers have begun taking steps to ensure that the industry doesn't pass them by. Case in point: General Motors today announced its plan to acquire Cruise Automation, a company that achieved acclaim by selling sensor-laden "kits" that enabled car owners to add autopilot driving features to their cars after-market. Though financial details of the acquisition weren't publicly released, it's believed that GM picked up the company for more than $1 bi…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/47868e0a60a91429515f14f3948303ae.jpg Intelligence agencies fighting a fierce battle against ISIS have scored a massive victory by capturing a USB drive containing personal data for 22,000 ISIS fighters. The win is akin to hacking ISIS’s “human resources” department, as the USB drive in question contains a treasure trove of information that was already verified as being genuine. A defector has apparently leaked the USB drive, though other details about this intelligence operation aren’t revealed. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/7fd12283578b6978a77847700721de8c.jpg Earlier this week, Amazon unveiled the new Echo Dot and Echo Tap. Although Amazon’s Echo speakers have been praised highly for the options and capabilities they have, one implement didn’t go as expected. Something interesting happened this week during the show ‘Listen Up.’ NPR host Rachel Martin was showing everyone her Amazon Echo speaker over the radio often calling its name. Apparently, Alexa wanted to know more of what Martin was saying. As the speaker listened to the NPR broadcast, it accidentally reset a homeowner’s thermostat. In fact, several users experienced difficulties …

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/8f41029b3001fa26c6682ccf62720e15.jpg The FBI's demand that Apple create a custom version of iOS that would allow them to hack into the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino terrorists has Americans firmly divided into two camps. According to a recent poll conducted by NBC and The Wall Street Journal, 42% of respondents said Apple should cooperate with the FBI while 47% of those polled sided with Apple. 11% of respondents, meanwhile, indicated that they weren't sure which party to side with. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/9610c38d4fe029d51440a74cd6025551.jpg In late October back in 2014, Google released its hotly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the general public. Now, more than 16 months later, Lollipop has surpassed Android 4.4 KitKat to become the most widely used version of Android in the world. KitKat, mind you, was released on Halloween Day back in 2013. And yes, up until this month — March 2016 — it was still the most popular version of Android. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/2681581cb5b7f33f2fd39fcba966f6c6.jpg The Apple Watch is already the best-selling smart watch in the world and it hasn't even been on the market for a full year yet. The software is great and the design is beautiful, but there is one sort of annoying aspect of the Watch: the charger. Apple's wireless charging mechanism is cool but having that weird disc floating around loose can be a pain. The bottom line is that you need a stand, and we'll give you five terrific options in this post that start at just $9.99 shipped. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/80d0c3a6756dd43e6aab4b415ffeb3e4.jpgEric Schmidt may have accidentally stirred up a little controversy by using something other than an Android phone to take pictures at the world Go championship tournament where Google’s own AlphaGo AI is attempting to beat the best player in the world. Instead of the focus being on the Go match, it was actually on Schmidt taking pictures at the event with an iPhone. Shocker, right? It’s almost like these people have preferences or something. It’s obviously pretty humorous to see anyone in a company, especially an ex-CEO of a company, using another company’s flagship product. But consider…
