http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/d506266ac61a7df0d0f7d08b9fd42401.png The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has helped develop a lot of wondrous technology over the years, including most notably the Internet. This week, the U.S. government agency released a concept for a new kind of plane that would be a hybrid of a plane and a helicopter and could enable vertical takeoffs. DARPA's new VTOL Experimental Plane has been designed to fly at speeds of up to 400 knots while also having the agility to hover and even fly backwards if it needed to. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/89efc12b93886ac913ca6b9d86d9b4f3.jpg Will criminals switch to iPhones just because voice and text conversations are encrypted by default? Governments all over the world have been trying to tell us that ever since Apple started encrypting their devices and services. It looks like criminals are aware of the advantages of owning a new iPhone, which one unnamed inmate recently likened to a “gift from God,: Ironically, though, the prisoner made that remark during a phone conversation that was intercepted by New York authorities last year. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/db699683cd45150016032105e962de73.jpg The Galaxy S7 seems to be the hottest smartphone in town – sorry, LG G5! – and the device certainly looks like the best smartphone Samsung has made to date. Along with all the other new features and improvements inside the Galaxy S7 that are worth mentioning, there's a little feature that could ensure you don't land yourself in a shocking situation. One early Galaxy S7 buyer who already received the device dunked it in water to take a photo. Four hours later, when he tried to plug it for charging, a “moisture detected in charging port” error appeared on the screen and the Galaxy S7 did not s…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/f5efab5974e6409b08a0f4bc5502994b.jpg The Next Web points us to a fascinating new site on github that lets users search for YouTube videos based on the area in which they were shot. While geolocation data for videos isn't as prevalent as it is for, say, photos, it's still an interesting tool that's worth exploring as a means to discover crazy, weird, and low-production footage that may have been shot right in your backyard. In addition to being able to enter in a particular city or even a specific address into the search bar, the site also lets users filter videos depending on how recently they were filmed. So, for instance, …

The heavily redacted filing is for a 100KW radio transmitter that Google is operating out of Spaceport America in New Mexico. The FCC documents do not reveal the purpose of Google’s testing leaving us to speculate as to what Google may be up to. The radio transmitter itself is licensed for several power levels including 2.5GHz, 5.8GHz, 24GHz, 71-76GHz, and 81-86GHz. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/2c40f048fec628ca973da9529c835f1f.jpgGood news for us, bad news for HTC. It looks like someone got ahold of whatever phone HTC is planning to release next a little early, and they’ve leaked pretty much everything we’ve wanted to know about the device, including hardware, design, and what’s probably going to be the marketing name. @OnLeaks kicked things off with an actual photo of the device and some confirmed specs, including a 5.15 inch screen, Snapdragon 820 CPU, 4 GB of RAM, and a USB type-C charger. He also pointed out the name of the device in its settings menu, which is simply the HTC 10. No One A or One M branding here,…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/4599349a61e81f4d2d6f7d08dcf71c76.pngFacebook has done some restructuring of how things are done in the UK branch of their business, and that looks like it’s going to result in some heavily increased taxes over the next few years. The company faced pretty serious pressure for routing things through Ireland for its biggest advertisers, which helped Facebook avoid the UK’s 20% tax on corporate profits. Small, online booked advertising will still be run through Ireland, and the company’s international HQ will remain there, too, but their recorded revenue in the UK should shoot up dramatically when this goes into effect in 2016. Most companies have sided with Apple, even their enemy Samsung, but Amazon seems to be on the other side of the debate. Many owners of Amazon Fire tablets are reporting that Fire OS 5 update removes encryption. Yes, you read that right, removes it. This means the new update will not only take away the ability to encrypt your device, but will also break previously encrypted ones. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/85eefbda11e489f1f8d8fb351bb875…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/8a0fe5e6aca61d8da6502b6f2dd280a4.jpg You had such great plans for the weekend ahead. You were finally going to take a drive to that hillside hiking trail your friends have been talking about for the past few months. You were going to get your tax documents together instead of waiting for the last minute like you usually do. You were going to take that special someone out to dinner. You were going to clean out the garage, get a haircut, and maybe even drop by to say hi to your parents, who always complain that they never see you anymore. And then Netflix had to go and release House of Cards season 4. Continue reading... …

It’s a sort of computer network infection, according to the U.S. government, which could produce significant harm to said network, when and if activated in the future. The dubious term was just used by San Bernardino’s DA Michael Ramos to explain why the iPhone 5c that the FBI wants Apple to crack is so important for the San Bernardino shooting investigation.
