A flop for the ages: Fire Phone estimated to have sold 35,000 units at most

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/74d850ea83c77abc45acc08f8c6301d0.jpg As many people have predicted, Amazon's Fire Phone looks like a flop of the first order, although we'll never know for sure just how big of a flop it's been since Amazon wisely won't release sales figures for the device. To make up for this lack of concrete data, The Guardian's Charles Arthur has done some guess work using data provided by both Chitika and ComScore to come up with an estimate for Fire Phone sales and the numbers are even uglier than we could have imagined. HTC’s next flagship phone shown in highest-quality pic yet
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
There have been several dubious leaked pictures of HTC's next flagship smartphone but one new picture seems to look more like the real deal than most. @HTCFamily.ru has posted a picture purportedly showing HTC's followup to the HTC One that has a lot of the features that we expect to see on the new device based on previous leaks, including buttons placed directly on the display and light sensors that have been shifted over to the right-hand side of the phone next to the front-facing camera. PocketNow's Stephen Schenck expresses some skepticism about the image's authenticity but he says that he's still "become quite confident that what we’re looking at in images like this …

by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins announced on Wednesday that every Hulu user will be able to access their favorite TV shows from more devices starting this summer. The Verge reports that full episode mobile streaming, a feature which was previously only available to Hulu Plus subscribers, is one of Hulu's next moves to compete with the unstoppable force that is Netflix. According to the report, a limited selection of shows will be offered to mobile viewers who don't subscribe to the service, a major step up from the short clips which currently make up the bulk of the content. Hulu will also launch an updated iPhone app to accompany the change. Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Another photo of the HTC M8 leaks, now with less bezel
by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies
Yesterday we saw a photo leak of the supposed new generation HTC One. It looked like an elongated HTC One with onscreen buttons. The only issue with the leaked photo is that it shows a design not fit for the One successor. Not only were there thicker bezels, but there was a waste of space in a black bar that housed nothing more than an HTC logo. Folks across the internet complained, and someone listened. Today we see a leaked photo showing a similar device but with a thinner bezel and no black bar. We can also see that the app tray and notification bars are transparent, giving it a more KitKat feel. Other than that it looks to be very much an HTC phone with on screen…

The YOGA Tablet 10 HD+ sports a 1080p screen, a powerful Snapdragon CPU, 2 GB of RAM, and a pretty large 9,000 mAh battery, and like the other YOGA tabs you get the handy little kickstand that lets you stand the device up in a variety of ways for reading or watching movies. You’ll also get an 8 megapixel rear camera, a 1.6 megapixel front camera, up to 32 GB of internal storage and a micro SD card slot. It’s not going to compete at the extreme high end of the market, but at the r…

by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

There can never be enough of the Angry Birds franchise. Never. And that is why Rovio has tweeted the teaser image above. In the tweet, Rovio says “Big adventure with new birds coming soon! #NewAngryBirds.” This would be Rovio’s latest entrant since Angry Birds Go launched in December. While the teaser doesn’t show much, we can assume that new birds will be utilized as none of the shadowed birds look familiar. For now, there is no further information available. Leaked screenshots show us BlackBerry’s potential Siri rival
by Guest Ben Zigterman- 0 replies
Despite BlackBerry’s dismally low market share in the U.S., it is still working on the next version of its operating system. And now we know what it will look like, thanks to some leaked screenshots picked up by PhoneArena. It looks like the new OS will feature an “Intelligent Assistant” that will presumably work like Siri or Google Now. The new OS also has a number of new features for its camera. It will be able to take panoramas and, more importantly, selfies with timers. The new camera software will also support taking 720p video at 60fps or 30fps. It will also be able to use HDR to improve image quality in high contrast light environments. Continue reading... …

Why Heartbleed could be much worse for Android users
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Even though Google does not have a Heartbleed problem, particularly since the company has known about the OpenSSL bug a month before everyone else, a large number of Android users may still be at risk, The Guardian reports. And that’s not because Google has not patched the security flaw, but rather because Heartbleed indirectly benefits from several factors. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

HTC working on a “music-centric” smartphone, could arrive by summer
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
The HTC M8 may not be the only device the company plans on releasing in the near future. According to @evleaks, we should be on the lookout for “a music-centric handset from HTC this half.” This is the first time we have heard of such a device. What could be so special about this device? Right now, no one knows. But if I had to guess, I would say HTC’s BoomSound audio would be a major component. Also, HTC could release special headphones with the device. Or maybe, just maybe, they would create their own music streaming service? I don’t think the latter is very likely. Let us know in the comments what you think will make this device so special. Look for a music-ce…

Qualcomm releases first Toq SDK
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
Qualcomm has finally released a software development kit for their Toq smartwatch, allowing developers to create software for the currently rather limited device. There are a number of reasons why the Toq could be a great device if taken full advantage of. For example, the device uses a colorful Mirasol e-ink display, which is very visible in sunlight. Right now however, the device is limited by its lack of functionality. If you’re a developer you can head over to Qualcomm’s website and download the SDK. Using the kit you will be able to install, update and uninstall applets on the device. Source: Qualcomm Developer Network Come comment on this article: Qual…

$100 million worth of ads are headed to your Instagram feed
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
You may not notice a lot of ads in your Instagram feed on a regular basis but that might be about to change. Unnamed sources tell Ad Age that Instagram has reached an advertising deal with ad agency Omnicom that will be worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 million. For anyone keeping track, this deal alone would account for 10% of the $1 billion that Facebook paid to acquire Instagram back in 2012. In other words, it won't take long at all for Facebook to recoup its investment in Instagram if it signs a few more deals like the one Ad Age says it's signed with Omnicom. Google and Netflix are considering an all-out PR blitz against the FCC’s net neutrality plan
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

More bad news for the Federal Communications Commission: It looks like the coalition that came together to kill the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) might be getting back together to rally against its proposed new net neutrality rules. The Wall Street Journal reports that while big tech firms such as Google, Netflix and Yahoo have kept their powder dry so far when it comes to the FCC's new rules, "officials inside the companies who follow government policy say they are considering mobilizing a grass-roots campaign to rally public opinion around the idea that the Internet's pipes should be equally open for all." Time Warner Cable still in denial, says users might not want faster data speeds
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
Do home Internet service subscribers want faster data speeds at lower prices? The answer to that question might seem obvious to most people, but many Internet service providers in the U.S. are still not convinced of the directions service speeds and prices should be heading. When they're not busy concocting painfully and embarrassingly awful anti-cord cutting campaigns, ISPs are hard at work trying to figure out how to strike a perfect balance between providing the quality of service their subscribers want and raking in the kind of revenue growth their shareholders demand. Regardless of how they approach the situation, it seems odd to even question whether or not customer…

by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Microsoft's vision for the future of computing — having one platform across multiple different device types — has always been intriguing. Where it's slipped up, however, has been its execution. The trouble for Microsoft is that it tried to stitch a brand-new touch-centric operating system onto its traditional desktop operating system in a way that polarized many longtime PC users. Now the company is scrambling to appease its spurned desktop users while still keeping the touch-centric features that it knows are vital to staying relevant in the mobile world. Continue reading...
