Amazon’s first new Echo device in over a year was just released
by Guest Maren Estrada- 0 replies
Amazon’s smart speaker team has been pretty quiet since the Echo Dot was released early last year, but that silence was just broken. Behold: the brand new Amazon Echo Show. The Echo Show is Amazon’s first Echo-branded device to feature a display and an integrated camera, facilitating a nifty new video calling service. The display does much more than that, of course, displaying things like the weather, to-do lists, and shopping lists upon command. The Echo Show is now officially shipping so if you didn’t pre-order one, now is your chance to see what all the buzz is about. Of note, you can still get $100 off the purchase of two or more units if you use the coupon code SH…

How to protect your Windows computer against the recent malware attack
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
A new wave of ransomware attacks swept the world on Tuesday, starting with Ukraine and spreading to other regions of the world. The attack was immediately compared to last month’s WannaCry, but that’s not quite the case, as the new ransomware isn’t as viral. Researchers already found a stupid simple way to protect Windows machines that might be affected by Petya, but that will not stop them from spreading it to other computers. Continue reading... Qualcomm’s new fingerprint sensors work through displays, water, and even metal
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
A BGR exclusive on Tuesday confirmed some bad news: Samsung's hotly anticipated Galaxy Note 8 flagship phone will not have an in-screen fingerprint sensor. Instead, Samsung was forced to use a design similar to what we saw on the Galaxy S8. The fingerprint scanner will be found on the back of the phone next to the rear camera, which is probably one of the worst possible locations for it. Why did Samsung have to compromise? Unfortunately, the third-party embedded fingerprint sensor Samsung wanted to use simply wasn't ready to be mass-produced at the scale Samsung needs for the Note 8. This is obviously bad news for Samsung fans who plan to buy the company's upcoming new…

Driverless cars are getting really confused by kangaroos
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
We all assume that at some point in the not-so-distant future, cars will be able to takes us from place to place with a bare minimum of input on our part. When that day will arrive is impossible to know, but for now it's up to companies like Volvo to teach their self-driving software everything it needs to know to be a safe, responsible pilot of a moving vehicle. At the moment... well, it's still learning, and it's having a particularly rough time figuring out how the heck kangaroos work. Continue reading... MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar finally has a reason to exist thanks to this Super Mario game
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
Some people absolutely love Apple's new Touch Bar on the MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, most of those people either work at Apple or they love Apple so much that they instantly fall in love with anything the company does. For the rest of us, our feelings on the MacBook Pro's Touch Bar range from "yeah it's neat" to "whatever." Wouldn't reaching out an inch further to interact with an on-screen Touch Bar at the bottom of an actual touchscreen be just about the same experience? And wouldn't the presence of an actual touchscreen also open the door for a wide variety of additional functionality? That said, we're much bigger fans of Apple's Touch Bar now that there's a Super M…

Apple is known far and wide for charging top dollar for its own-brand accessories, and the iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case is a perfect example.
