by Guest Alihassan Mahdi- 0 replies
Earlier this week, a photo of the unannounced Sony Xperia G alongside with the Xperia Z1 surfaced on Twitter. However, this time, ViziLeaks took it to twitter yesterday to post an image of what appears to be the rear of the Xperia G as well as its specifications. The handset on the top appears to be the Xperia Z1. According to the tweet, the Xperia G sports a 4.8 inch display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB internal storage, LTE connectivity with an 8MP rear camera which is situated in the center of the rear case. The tweet also mentions that it doesn’t have an IP rating so it means that the device might not be waterproof. Sony might unveil the Xperia G at the Mobile World Congre…

Thanks to XDA developer memnoc, you can now modify the home launcher “OK Google” hotword to work with any device and any language. Currently this only works with the Nexus 5 and sort of the Moto X; however, this modification opens it up to everyone. All devices running Android 4.4.2 work and non-AOSP ROMs are supported. This means if you have a Galaxy Nexus lying around loaded with KitKat, you can get this feature to work. All you will need is to have your device rooted and a file manager ready to go. You can finally print Office documents from your iPad
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Microsoft's Office suite has been a big hit on the iPad so far but it was also missing a crucial feature when it was first released last month: The ability to print out your documents from your tablet. Don't fret, however, because Microsoft announced on Tuesday that it's issuing its first update on Office for iPad that will enable printing on Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Other features included in the update are SmartGuides, a PowerPoint feature designed to "help you align pictures, shapes, and textboxes as you move them around on a slide," and AutoFit, a new Excel feature that "lets you adjust the width of multiple rows or the height of multiple columns at the same time. …

by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Microsoft definitely plans on releasing Windows Phone 8.1 because the company has already listed the next version of its mobile operating system on its Windows Phone website. WPCentral first spotted a Windows Phone 8.1 section under the Features menu, however, the company must have published the section by mistake because it’s not available anymore. Continue reading... Jacking up Amazon Prime prices could be a huge mistake
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
People may love Amazon Prime, but Amazon shouldn't take that love for granted anytime soon. The Wall Street Journal points us to a new survey conducted by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners showing that while most Amazon Prime customers plan on renewing their subscriptions right now, that number would drop significantly if it meant paying between $99 and $119 versus the $79 annual membership they pay today. According to CIRP's survey, 40% of Prime customers said they would "definitely" not renew their subscriptions if Amazon hiked the price all the way up to $119 while less than half said they would "probably" or "definitely" renew their subscriptions if Amazon raise…

Qualcomm cuts $100 off its Toq smartwatch price
by Guest Alihassan Mahdi- 0 replies
Qualcomm announced its Toq smartwatch last year and made it available for sale back in December 2013 for a price of $350, which was quite expensive. However, Qualcomm has now cut $100 off its original price bringing it down to $249. The timing may not be a coincidence after we heard a report that HTC might unveil a smartwatch based on the Qualcomm Toq at MWC 2014. With a price tag of $249, the Toq smartwatch is a dollar more expensive than its competitor, the Pebble Steel. The Toq smartwatch features a color touchscreen display that is always active and on while lasting for a couple of days between charges due to a Mirasol low power display fitted to the device. Wit…

Microsoft: Hey, at least Windows Phone is beating BlackBerry
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Although Windows Phone has shown some impressive gains over the past year it's still trailing far behind Google's Android and Apple's iOS in terms of both total number of users and mobile developer interest. However, Business Insider reports that Microsoft is looking at the bright side and saying that at least its mobile platform is doing better than BlackBerry, the famously beleaguered Canadian smartphone pioneer that spent a good chunk of 2013 with a "For Sale" sign on its back. Oppo says the Find 7 will be ‘greater than’ Samsung’s Galaxy S 5
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

HTC isn’t the only company getting a kick out of taking shots at Samsung. Above, you are looking at a teaser that Oppo is using to hype its upcoming Find 7 handset. On the left is probably a shadowed corner of the Find 7 that resembles the number itself. On the right is Samsung’s Galaxy S logo tilted to represent the number five which is for this year’s Galaxy S 5. Hit the break for a video and another teaser image from Oppo. In this image, Oppo is highlighting the Find 7′s inclusion of expandable storage and a removable back (with a screwdriver). This differs from Samsung because the removable back for the Galaxy devices simply clicks in after being removed. Op…

Best Android keyboard replacement apps [April 2014]
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Over a year ago, we covered some of the best available replacement keyboards for Android devices. Many of those keyboards are still fantastic options, but they’ve been updated to include great new features, and other keyboards have hit the Play Store that are just a little better than what was available a year ago. Keyboards are still just as important as always, so we’re going to give you an up-to-date guide on the best of what’s available. SwiftKey made our list last time, and it’s done nothing but improve since then, including knocking out one of its biggest flaws; a separate phone and tablet application. The text prediction and autocorrect on SwiftKey is…

Nokia X gets priced in Vietnam
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
The Nokia X has been listed at an online retailer in Vietnam as the Nokia X A110. The listed price is between 2.2 million and 2.5 million VND. That equates to roughly $110. To give you a point of reference, the same site has the Nokia Lumia 525 (Windows Phone) for 3.39 million or $160, but it also has 512MB more RAM and an extra 4GB of internal storage. It was a few weeks ago when (former) Motorola CES Dennis Woodside said that they would like to offer a smartphone for $50. We are just about there folks. The retailer in question is in the source links below, but we can’t seem to find the listing. Nokia might have forced them to remove it. sources: techrum.vn /…

Windows XP diehards aren’t going quietly
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Microsoft has a problem: It desperately wants any remaining Windows XP users to upgrade to a newer version of the operating system but a huge chunk of them still haven't budged. The latest numbers from NetMarketShare show that Windows XP still accounts for around 29.5% of all desktops in use even though Microsoft is due to end support for the 13-year-old platform on April 8th. ZDNet reports that Microsoft plans to pester remaining XP holdovers starting next week by sending them pop-up notifications reminding them — again — that it will end XP support within a month. Smartphone shipments passed the 1 billion mark in 2013, Android smartphones accounted for...
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

IDC’s latest numbers are in, and 2013 was a pretty big year for smartphones. For the first time ever, smartphone shipments passed 1 billion total phones, which is an incredible achievement. Android smartphones accounted for just shy of 800 million devices. Android and iOS were (obviously) the two major forces behind driving this growth, as both operating systems accounted for 93.8% of smartphone shipments total last year. For the fourth quarter, we saw some pretty positive growth, too. Android shipments grew 40.3% year-over year, second only to Windows Phone. However, in terms of pure numbers, Android shipping an incredible 226.1 million devices compared to Windows …

Here’s the one app you absolutely need to save you from TV spoilers
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

Everyone hates spoilers, but now that Netflix is releasing entire seasons of shows overnight, it's harder than ever to avoid them. Thankfully, Business Insider has drawn our attention to one mobile solution to the barrage of spoilers you can't escape online. Spoiler Shield syncs with your Facebook and Twitter feeds and then gives you the option to decide which spoilers you want filtered from view. The app already has a relatively comprehensive list of shows and sports teams, so you won't have to do any additional legwork. Posts that mention those shows or games will then be covered with a shield, but you can double tap a shielded tweet or Facebook post to reveal the messa…

The cheapest printer costs $1,300, which is fairly steep, but shipping is free. Shoppers can now also walk into stores and ask for the employees to help them to design and print objects on the spot. Android’s KitKat is rolling out even more slowly than Jelly Bean did
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Even though Google designed Android 4.4 to work on more devices than any of its predecessors, it looks like KitKat's adoption rate is lower than Jelly Bean’s was when it first launched. GigaOm citess data from a new Chitika report showing that in the 6 months since Android 4.4 KitKat was launched, only around 10% of Android devices part of the study have been seen running it. Comparatively, Jelly Bean was installed on 14% of devices 6 months after launch, the company revealed in a similar report in early 2013. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

A recent internal Netflix 24-hour Hack Day had employees come up with new creative ways of improving the company’s product, TechCrunch reveals, with one interesting hack connecting a wearable device – the Fitbit band in this case – to Netflix in order to automatically stop video playback when the user falls asleep. By picking up and analyzing movements, the software can tell when the user is falling asleep and stop the show he or she is watching. When the viewer returns to Netflix, he or she can resume the show from the moment the user fell asleep. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Is a 3D chocolate printer too rich for your blood? If so then Sprinkles Cupcakes has a slightly cheaper way to satisfy your sweet tooth with technology. Per AdWeek, it seems that Sprinkles has launched a Cupcake ATM in New York City that will dispense boxed cupcakes to you for $4.25 a pop. The ATM can hold an impressive 760 cupcakes at one time and features several popular flavors including red velvet, Cuban coffee, banana dark chocolate and cinnamon sugar, AdWeek says. For Sprinkles' sake, however, we hope that the company has upgraded its Cupcake ATMs around the country from Windows XP, or else it could see hackers easily swiping all of its delicious treats once Microso…
