http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/ac88735bbde9f4a3641ffd4509709c81.jpg With a massive fiber-optic cable spanning across the Pacific Ocean from Japan to the United States, Google should expect some issues. While that project will not be completed until sometime in 2016, Google is already working on fixing other data cables in the same area after sharks have taken to biting them. These cables are carrying data between continents are largely responsible for the Internet being able to function. The belief is that the magnetic field from the cables’ high voltage is resembling the same as a fish. So these sharks are approaching what they think are fishes; howeve…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/5603495139dd947006d9a0290c9fc233.jpg Android Wear and its two launch devices, the G Watch and Gear Live, have not been not the market for six months and one manufacturer is apparently already facing a fall release for a successor. The Korean Times is reporting that LG is looking to IFA 2014 in a few weeks to introduce the G Watch 2. The reason to release a new smartwatch this fall is to combat the rumored smartwatch from Apple. In addition to Apple, Motorola is readying its Moto 360 and ASUS has had something in its pipeline for a debut next month. To be a real differentiator, LG is putting all of the members of its family…

This keeps Samsung around as a top sponsor for the Olympics. As a top sponsor, the two have been partners since the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan; however, Samsung was a local sponsor for the 1988 Games in Seoul, South Korea. The role as top sponsor “directly supports the staging of every Olympic Games, as well as every one of the National Olympic Committees, enabling athletes from all over the world to prepare for and compete at each Games,” according to the IOC’s president Thomas…

For $60, you’ll now get unlimited talk/text and 2GB of data. If you are paying for your device with Verizon’s Edge plan, your monthly bill will decline by $10 to $50 a month. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/f143573d496f7cd8460f49e839d2791e.jpg If you’re planning on flying Virgin America anytime soon you may notice some shiny new tablets in the hands of the crew. For a while now passengers have been able to order meals using a dedicated “food” button and an in-flight entertainment system. Once the order is placed it is relayed to the staff’s tablets. Apparently those tablets were starting to feel dated because after a successful 30-day test drive, Virgin has swapped all of them out for shiny new Nexus 7s (which the company have dubbed CrewPads). Unfortunately those tablets are for staff only, but since each seat is furnished with…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/e428ea745914efb7d90bfd7f9f7f2eac.jpg Motorola certainly has been busy these past few weeks, and its schedule isn’t getting any easier with the upcoming releases of the Moto X+1, the Moto G2, and Moto 360. However, there seems to be a device we’ve been missing. An anonymous source sent in screenshots of a new Moto device for Verizon to update the Droid line called the DROID Turbo. The specs are almost too good to believe. A Snapdragon 805 processor running at 2.65GHz, 3GB RAM, 32GB of storage, a 2K 4.6″ display, and a 20 MP camera certainly raise a few eyebrows, but to add to credibility of the source, the model number is XT1…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/14c00cd58602dea658419edda2fe5596.jpg Samsung and Nook have released a teaser for their upcoming partnership in the tablet realm, and it seems like everyone has nothing but good things to say after final edits. The new device is that child of a relationship announced back in June, and it will be revealed at an event on the 20th of this month. According to all of our info, the Tab 4 Nook should feature Nook software, and Samsung hardware. Expect to see a 7″ TFT display with WXGA resolution, along with 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 GB storage, and a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. All this will be supported by a Li-Po 4,000 mAh battery. Hit…

Making Sense of Shamu: Motorola’s next flagship is the Moto S, and could be the first Android...

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/924dfeff88c6fe71f8aabddcd97d6d91.png It’s no secret now that Motorola will be responsible for the upcoming Nexus 6 phone, which is starting to look like a beast (specs-wise) of a device — something rarely seen in Nexus devices. This new Motorola device, which is currently going by the codename “Shamu,” will apparently be called the “Moto S” once is comes to market. Because this device (according to the photo at the top) seems like it’ll be branded as the Moto S, we believe that this could be the first Android Silver device, and not necessarily a Nexus phone, but there’s more to come on that for sure, so stay tuned. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/9eb78db5976abbb06bcd010fb396d508.jpg We learned earlier today about specifications for the upcoming Moto X+1, and now we have new images to put its 5.2-inch display into perspective. The image above shows what is allegedly the Moto X+1 (left) next to the original Moto X. The height is certainly larger and the bezels on the sides have been shrunk. It also seems that the top and bottom of the device will feature quality speaker grills. The original Moto X has a 4.7-inch display, so the jump to 5.2 inches is definitely noticeable. The same source, HelloMotoHK, also posted an image of what is said to be a new DROID device. The…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/9baf3c44b1781ed95251ee5a4df3ca37.jpg Earlier today a video from Sprint was accidentally released showing what appeared to be the HTC One (E8) coming to the network. The cheaper, plastic-bodied version of the HTC One (M8) flagship was released in China earlier this summer. It was unclear whether the device would make it to the U.S. market at the time. The video from Sprint, which has since been pulled, was apparently released prematurely. Since the video did not contain any information regarding pricing or availability according to sources that viewed it, we do not have any idea when the device may be ready for consumers t…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/58a3635454fc8be597dedccd3dbcbc70.jpg Sprint’s new CEO Marcelo Claure has stirred things up after only a few days on the job. In a town hall meeting with employees of Sprint, Claure laid out plans to make the company into another disruptive carrier in the market similar to what T-Mobile has been doing. Claure’s plan has three phases – cutting prices, improving the network and lowering costs. Claure says the first phase will get started next week when new pricing plans described as “very disruptive” will be revealed. Claure said the plans will be “simple and attractive.” He also said that as the market changes, Sprint will …

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/d9bd00464c788b87856818cd9162a6d6.jpg Is Sprint finally ready to stop being the wireless industry's whipping boy? LightReading reports that new Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure has pledged that Sprint will unveil some "very disruptive" new prices and plans next week, which will hopefully finally get T-Mobile CEO John Legere to shut his trap about Sprint's godawful "Framily" campaign (OK, we don't really expect that to happen, but still...). http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/bdce6e4fedacc77df12f49bb0bf27a60.jpg Emoji have become an incredibly popular way to add more color to our written communications but is there any way you could survive using them exclusively on your favorite messaging app? WNYC this week posted an interview with its own NewTechCity senior producer Alex Goldmark, who took up a challenge this summer to communicate with his girlfriend on their smartphones using only the emoji available on the WeChat messaging app for a full month. Although the couple found it challenging to communicate complicated ideas and requests to one another, they found that using emoji worked perfectly we…

According to Wired, a group of researchers from Stanford University and the Israeli defense research group Rafael are going to hold a presentation at the Usenix security conference next week that will demonstrate how the gyroscope in your phone can be converted into "crude microphones" which can pick up sound waves in the area.
