Apple looks poised to run over Samsung and HTC this fall

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/b9e05ca728629de838ecc20dbb464cc3.jpg The new comScore report on U.S. smartphone subscriber market share has one major surprise: Apple managed to increase its American market share to 42.1% in June from 41.4% in March. This is fairly astonishing considering it has been nearly a year since Apple rolled out new models but particularly since Samsung launched its brand-new Galaxy S5 in April and HTC rolled out its much ballyhooed One (M8) in March. So two leading Android vendors debuted their well-received flagship models during the spring... and Apple's American market share still inched up another notch. Continue reading... …

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/99fe4eb03a6b2d48ead058453c628ec6.jpg One of the most useful features Google has added to Android in the past year is multi-user support for tablets, but months later, the feature still hasn't made its way to smartphones. Based on a response in the Android issue tracker, this long awaited feature might appear alongside Android L. One user took to the issue tracker to express disappointment that Android phones aren't able to handle multiple users on a single device. Pictures of wireless charging dock for Moto 360 appear online

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/16fada6f57822f1d20032b5353873153.jpg We haven’t really been sure how Motorola planned on charging up the Moto 360, but now it’s pretty obvious. As seen in the photo above, the next big smartwatch to come to market will have a wireless charging dock, which displays the watch face while charging. This makes it a serviceable bedside clock. According to a recent FCC filing for the device, the Moto 360 takes advantage of Qi wireless charging capabilities, which means there are no connectors on the back, as found in LG’s G Watch. (That means no corroding pins!) This is all good news leading up to the launch of Motorola’s n…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/cbb33fcf8d1676a3230032496b966c20.jpg Apple and Samsung have been duking it out in the courts for a couple of years now, but today’s news could be the beginning of the end. Both companies have jointly announced an agreement to drop all suits against each other in countries outside the U.S. This includes Australia, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Netherlands, the U.K., France, and Italy. What’s interesting here is that not only is the U.S. excluded from this, but there is no cross-licensing agreement in place. So the current suits are no more, but how does this stop either company from filing new suits? It doesn’t, but I guess…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/f9497e1abd8050ef77c52106cb06e37e.png Google Maps has the whole “traveling without actually being there” thing pretty much down. But in outer space? They have that now, too. Just head over to Google Maps and you’ll be able to rove both the Moon and Mars with brand new, 3D explorable maps. To find out how to get started, just hit the break. Note: You’ll have to be in the new version of Google Maps for this to work: First, you’ll want to get over to Google Maps, of course. Then, click on the “Google Earth” mode icon in the bottom left of the screen. Once it loads up in 3D, zoom out as far as possible by clicking th…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/66977be3a34f87229c4fe71513835e6b.jpg It has been rumored that the upcoming iPhone 6 will feature a sapphire display, but Kyocera beat them to it with the Brigadier. The Brigadier had a soft launch last week on Verizon Wireless, and it is one tough cookie. The Brigadier is classified as a rugged device, and boy is it. Check out the video below and see how the Sapphire display holds up against a “normal” display. Let’s hope this becomes the norm for all phones in the not too distant future. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/8159d5677127808758762ed6bd5b8c59.jpg Even though there was a lot of hype around the Amazon Fire Phone, customers just aren't buying it, at least not yet. In a survey, R.W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian notes "muted demand" among potential smartphone buyers, especially ahead of the next iPhone launch that is reported to take place in the middle of next month. Of the 1,000 people who participated in the survey, only 5% of respondents said they would buy a Fire Phone, compared to 43.8% for an iPhone, 32.6% for Android phones (including Samsung, HTC, Nexus and others), 6.8% for a BlackBerry, and 5.3% for a Windows Phone. Although we've seen a few leaked hardware components from Apple's next flagship phone, the actual device is still a mystery, but the latest 3D concept images from designer Martin Hajek might be the closest we get to laying our eyes on the iPhone 6 before next month. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/ac856278aa31d512fe47f0ea325fe625.png A week ago we received hints at a new standalone Google Hands-Free application from a Google+ post. Now, thanks to Google search, we’ve found a new hint towards how this new app will fit in with the Android OS. Users can open up the Google Search App and search for “hands free.” They will be greeted with a card in the process of opening, but it will stall out until an action is taken and the process is cancelled. We still don’t know when the app will be released, or any of its features, but it seems like Google will release it to the world any day now. Source: Android Police Come…

by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/939a09afcd47a50a2d2bb49163f1b531.jpg Apple is making Samsung pay, and it we're not just talking about patent lawsuits. The Wall Street Journal reports that Samsung's component supply business has taken a big hit recently because Apple has decided to branch out and use a wider variety of suppliers to cut down its dependence on the Korean electronics giant. While Apple has had mixed results in finding new supply chain partners and has even had to reportedly crawl back to Samsung on some occasions, the big picture is that Apple's moves are still taking a bite out of Samsung's bottom line. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/7acbf74fd105f0072c0465c7bdbb17de.jpg Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 4 on September 3rd at IFA 2014, and will likely release the handset in the following weeks in an attempt to beat the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 to market. LG is more than aware that the Galaxy Note 4’s arrival may threaten its G3 flagship handset, and the company is apparently already working on a device that's supposed to neutralize the threat. No, the company will not launch a next-gen G Pro model already. All it needs to compete against the Galaxy Note 4 is a stylus and a slightly bigger display – after all, the G3’s gorgeous screen is almost as big as most phab…
