http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/3c93412e6557b473f8619bc318f75e32.jpg Not too long ago, Kickstarter suspended a crowdfunding campaign for the iFind, a device that would have raised well over $550,000 despite not being able to share any details about the product with backers or show a functional prototype. It’s still not clear whether that was an elaborate scam or an actual product, but it looks like there’s one more similar product that’s raising scam flags during funding. With 17 days left in the campaign, the Ritot smartwatch has already passed $750,000 in funds on Indiegogo well over its initial $50,000 goal, but The Next Web revealed there are some issues …

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/45a7690f33ba80e945d8d4d9aa2ad855.jpg For the past couple of years, we've been alternately amused and horrified whenever cable company bigwigs have told us that we don't really "need" fast speeds like those offered by Google Fiber, so why bother significantly investing in infrastructure upgrade? It turns out, however, that both Comcast and Time Warner Cable have quickly changed their tunes now that they're feeling the actual heat of free market competition for the first time in years. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/490e73ffc3b93d99cfeee5d0d8b4eccd.jpg Samsung is expected to soon unveil the Galaxy Alpha, a 4.7-inch Android smartphone that’s supposed to take on the upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone 6. While the smartphone is not official, it’s specs have already been leaked and have shown that the Galaxy Alpha won’t be a Galaxy S5 version hidden in a smaller body. We've also seen a couple of image leaks that have shown us what the device will have to offer in terms of design. Furthermore, Phone Arena has uncovered more model numbers for the Galaxy Alpha, which suggest at least two U.S. versions of the handset are inbound. Continue reading... h…

Verizon thinks you’re stupid

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/615fbca7749aa6177f06448403024eee.jpg Although T-Mobile's assorted "Uncarrier" moves have done a lot to undermine the wireless industry's traditional two-year contract business model, Verizon still thinks two-year contracts are a wonderful thing, mostly because they're guaranteed revenue for a fixed period of time. Because of this, it's not surprising to see Verizon is doing its best to keep the two-year contract model alive by shamelessly trying to convince users that signing a two-year deal is in their best interests. However, Droid Life points us to a new Verizon promotion that really takes things to a whole new level of stup…

After Google found suspicious photos in Skillern’s Gmail inbox they tipped off the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children who in turn notified Houston police. Once the police had a warrant they were able to uncover more incriminating evidence and arrest him. “He was trying to get around getting caught, he was trying to keep it inside his email”, Detective David Nettles of the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Chi…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/06463f7577d4de9986e81cb6dca2b46e.jpg The Oppo N1 Mini was announced way back in May, but it has yet to be released. Consumers have been waiting around for months not only to get the device, but to here when they will be able to get the N1 Mini. A new teaser image (above) that was posted by the company’s Indian Facebook page could be an indication that Oppo will be making it available soon. The teaser claims that although the N1 Mini will be smaller in size, it still packs the same punch as a larger device. The caption attached to the image within the Facebook post says the device will have a “Revolutionary 24 Mega Pixels Ultr…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/06eb47da14f223105011b82eb3ebd61f.jpg Although Sony does not have a big presence in the United States mobile industry, it does have a go-to carrier for launching new devices. That carrier is T-Mobile and the company looks like it will be doing so with the upcoming Xperia Z3. An FCC filing has shown that the Xperia Z3 is being tested on John Legere & Co.’s network without actually saying so. The FCC filing is showing that the handset is capable of operating on 3G/4G bands 5, 2, and 4. For LTE, it has been tested on bands 12, 2, and 4. All of these bands are supported by T-Mobile. So while this does not explicitly conf…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/ca994f216d7b3cc53d4ad11f670cb584.png Android Wear support is popping up left and right. Developers have realized the true value Google is providing with its wearable platform. One of the greatest uses for Android Wear is the ability to handle notifications without having to take out a phone and check the notification tray. Noticing this, WhatsApp has added Android Wear support in a beta update. As expected, this new support for Android Wear allows users to reply to messages by speaking. After all, that is almost the key selling point to an Android Wear device — you almost never have to touch it. in addition to providing a …

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/6f26c6b7e2c83c669dfd1937629d8297.jpgFor quite a few years, the window for an app or game refund in the Play Store has been 15 minutes. Today, it looks like that’s changing to 2 hours, but just for games. There’s no announcement from Google, but Android Police ran some tests, and found that although 15 minutes is still listed as the official refund time, it took exactly 120 minutes for the button to disappear. This could very well be a glitch, but we’ll wait for something official from Google to be sure. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/38b1ca6861494ae2dc104c47cc2b132e.png Both BlackBerry and its diehard fans are very excited about the upcoming BlackBerry Passport, which BlackBerry promises will feature a "revolutionary" new keyboard that the company says consumers are "clamoring" for. CrackBerry notices that the Passport has just passed through the Federal Communications Commission and will apparently at least be supported by both AT&T and Rogers in North America. CrackBerry also says that T-Mobile could theoretically support the Passport as well, but given the recent fighting between those two companies we doubt that we'll see CEO John Legere promoting i…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/955a33c051e41e8f2cd88daafde554a7.jpg Facebook has joined forces with other tech companies to create Internet.org, an organization that wants to bring the Internet to developing markets. The social network believes that it’s doing the world a great service by trying to bring more people online, but the move will also help out with its quarterly bottom line, as the company would force more people to create Facebook accounts to enjoy Internet services in these markets. Author and New York Times journalist Evgeny Morozov doesn’t think that Internet.org is necessarily the best solution, as it ultimately comes with certain terms and …

Samsung is expected to unveil the handset in the following weeks, but U.K. cell phone seller MobileFun has already put up for preorder a SIM-free Galaxy Alpha version on its website, apparently confirming its commercial name. The Wall Street Journal reports that HBO is looking for new countries that could be candidates to get its standalone web TV service, which has proved to be a smash hit in the Nordic countries where it's been available since 2012. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/e596c06329d5a360407729267660c200.jpgDespite the fact that HTC has hit earning estimates and turned a profit in the second quarter of 2014, sales in July hit a five-month low for the company. HTC reported sales of NT$ 10.6 billion (US $ 353 million) for the month, leading the company to say the figures underline a product transition period. As far as figures are concerned, sales fell 51.6 percent from June and by 32.5 percent from the previous year. The company’s consolidated revenue is also down by 15.8 percent totaling out at NT$ 108.8 billion for the first seven months. The July through Sept. forecast suggests mor…

As you can clearly see, it’s below the main camera lens so it could very well be a fingerprint scanner or it could even be a secondary camera lens, similarly to what is on the HTC One (M8). It’s also possible that it could be some sort of rear power and/or volume controls. The Ascend D3 will most likely be unveiled next month at IFA, and is rumored to feature a 6-inch (1920 x 1080) display, a homegrown Huawei octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 920 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory,…
