http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/76f4229eb0087fdf17b23e6fc55db899.jpg Thanks in part to sales of its flagship HTC One (M8) smartphone, HTC has delivered on its promise and returned to profit in the second quarter. The struggling handset maker on Thursday reported preliminary unaudited financial results for the June quarter, noting a narrow $75 million profit on revenue totalling just under $2.2 billion. The good news is that the company finally managed to return to a profit, but the bad news is that revenue is still sliding. In other words, sales are still sputtering but HTC's recent cost-cutting measures have had a clear impact. Continue reading... http…

This time, word comes from Paul Thurrott, who is often a reliable source for information surrounding Microsoft's unannounced plans. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/c86401912361c78ec26b10d2056f967a.jpg For a long time, T-Mobile's biggest "pain point" has been the quality of its wireless network, but that may be changing much more quickly than any of us expected. Re/code's Walt Mossberg recently took T-Mobile up on its offer to try out its network for free for one week and he found that Big Magenta's LTE network actually performed better in Verizon's did. Windows Phone still isn’t close to solving its biggest problem

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/20ceb004d551ed3dbc34b67837bcb49b.jpg Windows Phone is in a real Catch-22: App developers won't make apps for the platform if Windows Phone doesn't get more users and Windows Phone won't get more users until more app developers make apps for the platform. And it's not enough for Microsoft to just throw cash at developers to get them to bring their apps to the platform long after they've become hits — the company needs a way to get developers to put Windows Phone on the radar right from the beginning. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/75d1eb4ea5eb79f161dba0fdd8c4fba7.jpg If you've waited until now to try to get your hands on Sony's latest portable console, you might be out of luck. Polygon has noted that even though the PS Vita was recently re-released with a slimmer frame and improved battery life, the Borderlands 2 bundle is currently out of stock at every major online retailer, including Target, Walmart, Best Buy and GameStop. The listing on Target even states that the bundle is "not sold in stores." Amazon is no longer selling the bundle directly either — you'd have to go through a reseller to buy one from the online marketplace. Continue reading... …

After hearing reports that Google had decided to remove a BBC News article from its search results that detailed the disastrous tenure of former Merrill Lynch CEO Stan O’Neal, a spokesperson for the European Commission has now come out and said that Google's removal of the article was "not a good judgement." The app has finally made it’s way to the U.S Play Store, which means you can download it now. VLC should play just about any video you throw at it, whether it’s local or network streams. Even DVD ISOs. Plus, VLC already announced that Chromecast support will be coming soon. I can see this one being the go-to media app for a lot of people. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/0b83bf49331b101dd5f9e18890f25e09.jpg We had a slew of Android Wear apps hit the Play Store yesterday, and it was only the beginning. We are likely to have thousands of apps by the end of the month, and it will only continue to grow. To make things easier, Google added an Android Wear section in the Play Store. You can access it via the link below or from your Android Wear app on your phone. Just tap on “Browse compatible apps” at the bottom of the main screen, and select “Always” for opening with the Play Store. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/6a2ad181a258a455b6f1219ec2cb74c2.pnghttp://androidforum.us/data/…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/b339316b0a21ad05dc5ecae2c9a392bc.png OK, I’m going to preface this by saying that this should be taken with a heavy grain of salt. Prepared? Good. According to Chinese retailer Jingdong (JD.com) the Moto 360 will have a price that equates to almost double of what you’ll pay for the Gear Live or G Watch. According to the site, the device will cost ¥2,800.00. In dollars that’s about $450. To put it into perspective, the G Watch and Gear Live go for about ¥1,500.00. We knew that the Moto 360 would be priced as a luxury piece but that may be a deal breaker for most. Of course prices will differ in different regions but even s…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/4d5422095f96fbdf1478107b0ee1f994.jpg It's easy to forget just how awesome our smartphones are. Over the past 10 years, our mobile phones have morphed from being our primary tools for talking and texting to being our primary all-purpose computers that let us do things that we never imagined we could do with a device that fits into our pockets. Gizmodo writer Ashley Feinberg now has a unique appreciation for the greatness of smartphones after she decided to deprive herself of her iPhone for a full month and instead use the ancient Motorola RAZR V3, which just happened to be the hottest smartphone released in 2004. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/0ae3eedb03bd965e99327b65179b9615.jpg Android L might be the most exciting update to Google's mobile operating system since it launched in 2008. Material Design, the centerpiece of Android L, could seamlessly unify an interface that has struggled to form its own identity in the past, but all we have right now is the promise of something amazing. Until we actually see it in action on our own screens, we'll just have to take Google's word for it, which is why Luke Klinker's Talon for Twitter should be near the top of your list of most wanted apps right now. Samsung’s new iPhone-bashing ad is more true than Apple wants to admit

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/6085fbb4e7adcb5caa11f02b5ca935de.png Bashing the iPhone has been good business for Samsung, which has regularly run hugely successful ad campaigns that roast iPhone fans for being mindless sheep. Not one to mess with a winning formula, Samsung is at it again with a new ad called "Wall Huggers" that ridicules the iPhone's inferior battery power and shows several iPhone fans sitting by walls at an airport to make sure that their devices don't quickly get drained of battery life. T-Mobile to start offering equipment installment plans for accessories on July 20

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/5a262b4b6f13f3a400e79c3b6f99d6e4.png Need a payment plan for some accessories? T-Mobile customers will be happy to hear that on July 20, the carrier will start offering equipment installment plans (EIP) for accessories. Not only accessories will be eligible we assume. Would a $15 case really require a payment plan? Probably not. But for things like headphones or a smartwatch, this would be really helpful and make products much more accessible. T-Mobile will likely implement a minimum for eligibility and it does not seem that the carrier will attach any interest to the cost. Source: TmoNews Come comment on this article…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/3f07e9c63d4eac0a3c234171ec57a7a2.png It usually takes a couple of weeks for each Play Services update to fully rollout, but Google has announced that Play Services 5.0 has “rolled out to devices worldwide.” One of the biggest features of Play Services 5.0 is Android Wear services. Developers have been asked to hold off releasing Android Wear apps in the Play Store until July 7, but with the rollout completed, hopefully we will see some apps sooner. Google Play Services 5.0 also provides a dynamic security provider, which is a replacement of the secure networking APIs. This will allow Google to update security patches more…

Samsung releases Galaxy Tab S commercials, compares its display to the Apple iPad’s

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/e407a6150f7f029aece025d28a40728d.png One of the very few companies big and brave enough to fight Apple directly is Samsung. And by fighting directly, I mean calling out Apple and its products by name publicly. Not many others are willing to do the same. The latest head-to-head duel comes courtesy of a new commercial Samsung has released to promote the Galaxy Tab S. The selling point for the Galaxy Tab S is its display. The new commercial takes us through a few different scenes and asks if the iPad’s display is of the same caliber. Clearly, some editing magic can make that happen. Though, many have been quick to point out t…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/3282834e427e2709809e213cc4f50c02.png Perhaps you should consider a OnePlus tablet if the company fails to ship its smartphone to you. It is very much a possibility. An alpha version of the company’s website, dated from Sunday, shows that OnePlus is working on a tablet. The name OnePlus Tab appears beside other links at the top of the page. There are not any images or specifications available.. yet. With so many problems producing enough of its smartphone and ensuring its software is stable, maybe the company can offset demand with a tablet. Well, we are not so sure about that. Then everyone would be heavily interested in…

The walls finally came down at E3 2014 as the press went behind closed doors to see the game up close and personal while everyone else had the chance to go hands-on with the Chaos Squad mode on the show floor. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/7e8917db3ed91a33025e8b6ba1e8edfc.jpg Who could have predicted that strong-arming ISPs into hastily implementing content filters intended to stamp out pornography would be a disaster? Well actually, pretty much everyone could except for the architects of the policy itself — one of whom, ironically, was just charged with allegedly possessing child pornography. Now The Guardian is reporting that "nearly one in five of the most visited sites on the Internet are being blocked by the adult content filters installed on Britain's broadband and mobile networks."
