Earlier this month during T-Mobile’s Uncarrier 6.0 event, one of the changes announced was a “Test Drive” program in which T-Mobile will give potential consumers a smartphone to try for free for seven days. Now Samsung is following suit as they have announced a similar try-before-you-buy program at five locations in the U.S. Samsung will allow consumers to try out a Galaxy S 5, a Galaxy Note 3, a Samsung Gear 2 or a Samsung Gear Fit device. The trials can be done for each individual device or consumers can pair them up, say a Galaxy S 5 with a Gear 2. The packages include the devices, necessary charging cords, earbuds, a screen protector for the smartphones, and carrier s…

Google isn't afraid to try things that are absolutely crazy and one of its wildest projects we've seen this year is Project Ara, an experimental modular smartphone that lets you switch key components in and out of the device like Legos. A new video has popped up on YouTube of Project Ara chief Paul Eremenko at Google I/O this week showing off the device being put together and turned on in public for the first time, although he cautions at the start of the video that the device is still in its very early stages and nowhere near ready for public release. T-Mobile adds speed-testing apps to data limit exemption
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Earlier this month as part of T-Mobile’s Uncarrier 6.0 announcement, the company indicated they were not going to count data generated by several music streaming services against customers’ data caps. Going a step further, the company has now announced it will also exempt speed-testing apps from the limits. T-Mobile uses network throttling restrictions on user data when customers exceed their monthly data limit in lieu of charging overage fees. T-Mobile indicated the popular Ookla Speedtest.net app in particular would be exempt, but other similar apps would also be whitelisted. According to T-Mobile, their goal with this move is to show off the data speeds available on…

by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

Google announced some new features for Chromecast yesterday, including the ability to connect to devices that aren’t on the same WiFi network. Turns out, the little device is going to use ultrasonic sounds to communicate with devices instead of the traditional WiFi connectivity. These sounds will be completely inaudible, so you won’t have to worry about any high pitched buzzing noises, but it should also keep any strangers off of your device. This new form of communicating with devices will anyone around you to stream content to the Chromecast without bothering with getting your WiFi password and setting things up. The owner of the Chromeast has to specifically allo…

by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies

As part of the “right to be forgotten” ruling of the European Union, Google has begun removing search results for people that requested it. According to the Wall Street Journal, Google started removing results earlier this week, and Google says that they have started notifying applicants that their requests are being processed. As previously expected, Google is also notifying users when they search something if results have been removed. Rather than remove all traces of a search result, Google is notifying users that they are complying with the law. Nexus program to remain intact
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
After hearing various rumors that Google would be discontinuing the Nexus program, new information has surfaced suggesting that isn’t true. While Android Silver may be released in the near future, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Nexus devices will be getting the axe. “People have been commenting about Nexus because there is something else and they think that means the end of Nexus. That is the totally wrong conclusion to make,” said Dave Burke, head of engineering and the Nexus program. It’s nice to hear that the successful program will not be put to an end, and the expectations are now that Android “L” will be released alongside a Nexus refresh. Source: Android …

Motorola dropped the hint that there were a number of new unlocking methods being tested, including the ability to use a kind of tattoo. After Google sold Motorola, they kept the ATAP lab, which was responsible for working on the new unlocking method. Seth Rogen and James Franco’s new movie has North Korea ready to pull the trigger on us
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

North Korea's government isn't known for having a sense of humor, so we aren't surprised that it doesn't think there's anything funny about a new James Franco-Seth Rogen comedy that revolves around an attempt to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The Associated Press, via U.S. News and World Report, informs us that North Korea has now threatened to go to war with the United States unless our government blocks the film from being released. How Google trolled everyone with Android L and the Nexus 9
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Google had some very exciting announcements in store yesterday concerning its operating systems and web services, but the company did not reveal certain details that regular consumers may have been anxiously awaiting, such as an actual name for its Android L release – which some say is Lollipop – or a Nexus 9 tablet. However, that doesn’t mean that Google did not troll the audience during the keynote with these two products. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Android L is coming to the Moto X and Moto G
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Google did not spill any important details about Android L during its I/O keynote on Wednesday, so it’s not clear what the name of the new mobile operating system is, or its version number – some say it’s Android 5.0 Lollipop. It's also not known what devices will be able to run it. With KitKat, Google tried to make Android compatible with devices sporting as little as 512MB of RAM, in order to reduce fragmentation, and it will be interesting to see whether the company will manage to do that with Android L as well. From the looks of it though, it appears that certain mid-range handsets will indeed be able to run the OS. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius R…
