Or more precisely, you need to look at the Galaxy K Zoom compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S4 Zoom. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

The pros and cons of innovating ‘The Google Way’
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Google is probably the most unique company that I've ever observed, especially when it comes to being vastly more open about its innovation process than other companies. In contrast to Apple, which displays a comical obsession with secrecy, Google has no issues with opening up its garage door and showing you what it's working on, even if it isn't anywhere close to being finished. by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
- 55 views
Anxious to try out Android L but aren't willing to wait until whenever it finally releases? Well now you can... as long as you own a Nexus 5 phone or a Nexus 7 tablet, that is. Google has announced that developers can download a preview of Android L onto their Nexus 5 smartphones or Nexus 7 tablets right now to get an early look at the new build that Google is promising will be its "biggest release in Android history." Of course, you shouldn't install this preview if you aren't familiar with Android development tools or if you don't want to deal with crashing apps. But for those Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 owners who are feeling adventurous, head on over to the Android developer'…

We're all familiar now with all of the major new features that Google announced with Android L, including a new actionable notifications center, the new Material Design feature that will bring a more unified user interface, and compatibility with 64-bit hardware. However, there were a ton of features that Google added with Android L that didn't get mentioned, although the company did put up a quick graphic toward the end of its presentation that listed them all. by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

When developers lined up for their free smartwatches following Google's keynote on Wednesday, another intriguing creation made its way into the goody bag, one that appeared to be slightly more affordable than the Android Wear devices. Google's Cardboard project lets anyone transform their Android smartphones into a basic virtual reality headset using homemade materials, most notably a piece of cardboard. Continue reading... Check out a visual comparison of Android L versus Android KitKat
by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies
I don’t know about anyone else, but I needed a moment after the amount of stuff Google dropped on developers, bloggers and the rest of the world, yesterday. One of the most prominent debuts to come out of Google I/O, day one was Android L. The completely overhauled next version of Android is both enticing and beautiful, but how does it stack up visually with Android in its current form — KitKat? Well the folks at phoneArena put together a nice side-by-side comparison for the world to see. We have the gallery for you after the break. One thing’s for sure, the attention to detail is extreme. Even so, it’s the most visually appealing Android to date. What do you guys th…

Google Now gains true multi-language support
by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies
Google Now just got a bit more robust. Besides the search update that allows users to say “OK, Google” from anywhere in the OS, the personal search assistant can respond to near 52 spoken languages, and even accented variants of languages. However an update now allows Google Now to switch between a total of seven languages at one time. In order to get it to work, you’ll have to pre-select your secondary languages but after that your phone will be able to pick up multiple languages on the fly. Of course, even though 130 million people in the US have used Google Now’s voice recognition for search, Google’s Tamar Yehoshua has found that it’s only a small number of tho…

Here are the first third-party apps for Android Wear
by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies

With Android Wear going up for pre-order yesterday, after Google announced the platform officially — did you buy one yet — it was only a matter of time before we started seeing third-party apps make their way to the wearable. It was a short wait indeed, as we have six new apps available for the watch — despite the fact that the SDK was only released yesterday. The six new apps are as follows: PayPal Not PayPal’s first smart watch app, the app will head to beta testers over the next week and will support all three announced watches. Pinterest Pinterest will be location aware with its Android Wear app. It will look at the places you’ve pi…

by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Luuuk is the name of a mysterious Trojan that was discovered in early 2014 after having allowed its creators to steal more than €500,000, or about $680,000, in just seven days by performing “Man-in-the Browser” attacks. Kaspersky found the threat on January 20th, and it affected 190 customers of an unnamed bank that operates in Italy and Turkey. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Ignoring the unexpected protesters who tried to disrupt Google’s major developer event on Wednesday, or the unnecessary code demonstrations to an audience packed with media members excited about sharing with the world details about Google’s new products rather than looking at code demos that didn’t always work, Google’s I/O 2014 was packed with news, interesting announcements and revelations. And Google also talked about Android malware on stage and the measures it takes to prevent its customers from being affected. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

The single stupidest Apple prediction we’ve read all year
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
We'll be honest: When it comes to stupid Apple predictions, we didn't think anything could beat Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdry's declaration back in March that Apple had a mere 60 days to release an iWatch or it would "disappear." However, The Washington Post has for some reason decided to give voice to North River Ventures consultant Francis McInerney, who thinks that Apple's next big move will be buying Disney. With Apple's next-generation iPhone 6 handsets reportedly almost ready to enter mass production, we can expect leaks to kick into high gear. After all, with more than a hundred thousand people involved in the manufacturing process, it has become impossible to prevent component leaks. Case in point: For the first time ever, a component that is believed to be an authentic rear shell from Apple's upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone 6 has appeared in a leaked video. Continue reading... Google releases new Gmail API
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies

In response to developers looking for better ways to access Gmail from within their apps, Google announced a new Gmail API intended to serve as a replacement for the IMAP protocol. According to Google, while IMAP is great for standard email clients wanting to connect to an email server, the function is was designed for, it is no longer adequate for new features Gmail makes available or the way services have evolved. One of the most basic differences for Gmail compared to when IMAP support was first added is the addition of Labels, which Gmail uses instead of folders. The new Gmail API is designed to work with those labels in providing full RESTful access using OAuth 2.…

by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

When Android TV was announced, Google made it very clear that the platform would be very good for gaming. So how can Google possibly prove it with hardware? Enter Razer. The company is going to launch a “micro-console” this fall that is powered by Android TV. It will still doing everything else an Android TV device can do, but Razer is likely going to make sure the internals prove to be remarkable compared to the competition. Right now, though, we do not have any specs to tell. A statement from the company’s CEO, Min-Liang Tan, says their micro-console will be “a console of the future.” Hit the break for Razer’s full press release. RAZER DEVELOPING NEW MICRO-CONSOL…

Build your own cardboard virtual reality headset courtesy of Google
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
At the end of the I/O keynote today, Google gave away a pair of Android Wear smartwatches and a cardboard box. Yes, really, a cardboard box. While it is basically just a simple cardboard box, it also doubles a DIY virtual reality headset. Google has listed a set of instructions for turning any cardboard box into a VR headset, and all you’ll need is a smart device and a few extra pieces of hardware to take full advantage of it. Once you’ve put the headset together, you can test out several demos of VR applications through the official Cardboard app, which is already available on the Play Store. The app does several things, including YouTube, Google Earth, and viewing…

Audi announces intention to deploy Android Auto
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Earlier today Google took the wraps off their new Android Auto platform to bring Android to the automobile. They indicated they expect the new system to be available in autos on the market before the end of the year. While they have not committed to getting something out to consumers quite that fast, Audi has issued a press release indicating that starting in 2015 “all-new” models that are equipped with Audi’s MMI system will be Android Auto ready. You may note the careful use of wording and inclusion of the hyphen in describing “all-new” models. This seems to suggest Audi will start to include the system in either entirely new models added to their line or to models t…
