LG G3 Mini rumored specs leak, may feature a smaller screen than predecessor
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
“Mini” variants of devices have been popping up for some time now, and cater especially to those who would like a premium smartphone, but wouldn’t mind sacrificing some of the higher-end specs so that the screen size can shrink a bit to their liking. The LG G2 Mini, which was announced last February, has not been as successful as LG might have liked, and perhaps that’s because it wasn’t all that “mini.” The device, which featured a 4.7-inch screen, was a bit big for some users, who might have decided on another smartphone with similar specs and a smaller screen. Now, it looks like LG has picked up on the lost potential for sales — according to rumors, it looks like …

Mozilla working on Firefox OS based competitor to Chromecast
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
News has surfaced that Mozilla is working on device to compete with Google’s Chromecast and could be close to releasing the device. Powered by the Firefox OS, it appears the new streaming media device will function in a manner very similar to Chromecast even to the point of being able to work with some apps that were designed for Chromecast. At this point the device has no name and it is unclear who will manufacture the device, if it is even limited to a single manufacturer. Some prototypes have already been produced, as seen in the video below, but it appears the company that produced the prototypes will not be the final manufacturer. Meanwhile, a Mozilla spokesperson…

by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies

Google I/O is only a few days way, kicking off this Wednesday. What exactly will we see? One thing we probably won’t see is the upcoming Nexus 8 (or 9), but we finally know more information about it. Amazon unveiled the Fire Phone. Is this just another flop or is it a game changer? The Moto X+1 continues to leak on video, but the Galaxy Note 4 appears to be the next big thing. Google continues to bring stock apps to the Play Store, this time the email app. Speaking of apps, why on earth did Nike bring the Nike+ FuelBand app to Android now? A little too late don’t you think? It’s time to get caught up and get ready for what is sure to be an epic week in the world of Androi…

Samsung Gear Store trademark filed with USPTO
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Earlier this week news surfaced that Samsung had filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for “Samsung Gear VR.” It turns out that was not the only trademark application Samsung submitted related to their new Gear branded line of wearable devices. They also filed for protection on the trademark “SAMSUNG GEAR STORE” earlier this week. According to the description, the mark will be applied to application software for a wide variety of wearable devices. The software will be used “in searching, reviewing, purchasing, and downloading electronic games and software applications” along with a litany of computer hardware devices. Notably, the list…

Nexus tablet Volantis manufactured by HTC leaks: 8.9-inch display, NVIDIA Tegra K1, and more
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Waiting for the Nexus 8? So are we. But the next tablet from Google could actually be called the Nexus 9. The alleged device has leaked, a tablet with an 8.9-inch display that has a 2048×1440 resolution. The aspect ratio for such would be 4:3. It is believed to be manufactured by HTC and therefore an aluminum zero-gap construction would be obvious. The leak does claim that stereo front-facing speakers will be present, but the device in the image does not appear to have them. This could merely be a placeholder image. Hit the break for additional information. The specifications of this device, going by Volantis and Flounder right now, is where things get very interest…

Full list of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 model numbers leak
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
A list of more than twenty model numbers belonging to the Galaxy Note 4 has leaked. The upcoming large-screened device from Samsung looks like it will be heading to Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. The colors listed are black and white, but the latter of which is only for Verizon. We highly doubt the other carriers are restricted to just black, so be patient and don’t back on the list above. Internal storage options are 16GB and 32GB, and Samsung will presumably include a microSD card slot for expanding those numbers. Other than that, we just have a list of the model numbers. Are you interested in the Galaxy Note 4? Let us know in the comments. Source: @evle…

Alleged LG G Vista for Verizon promotional image leaks, looks oddly similar to the G3
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
This makes things interesting, but mainly confusing. Provided to @evleaks, the image above shows an LG device that looks just like the G3. But, clearly, this promotional image is not for the G3. This is for the recently-leaked G Vista. Everything looks identical to the G3 aside from the text. So what could the G Vista be? Perhaps a G3 Mini, but the sizing and everything else looks unchanged. Or could it be that Verizon is wildly altering the name of its G3 to the G Vista? Yeah, that sounds a bit crazy. What do you think the LG G Vista is? Let us know in the comments. Google adding native “help page” interface on its Android apps
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
If you’ve ever needed to go to the “help” section in an Android app by Google, your usual course of action would be to head to the hamburger menu on the left side of the screen, and click on the “Help” tab. Once you tap on it, you are directed to a web page. It’s a bit old-fashioned to be directed to a web page from an app, and it’s especially old-fashioned if Google is the company that developed the app. In an effort to update things, Google will soon direct users to a native help page within both the Google Wallet and YouTube applications. How do we know this? There are some relevant strings found in the APK files of the apps: <string name=”gh_help_sugg…

Google wants help to improve Tab Casting with Chromecast
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Google needs your help improving one of the features with Chromecast. Tab Casting, which allows users to mirror content from the Chrome browser to Chromecast, is getting some attention from Google to improve its performance. Right now, the Tab Casting feature has slight lag when sending over a webpage. However, it is nothing that renders the feature useless. To try the new enhanced version, you will need Chrome Canary and the Google Cast Beta extension. Hit the break for full directions from one of Chrome’s product managers. Hello Chromecast users, My name is Eric, and I am a product manager for casting in Chrome. We have been developing an enhanced version of…

Samsung Galaxy F press render leaked in ‘glowing gold’
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
While we previously thought that the Samsung Galaxy F and the Galaxy S5 LTE-A were the same device, according to evleaks the Galaxy F is in fact different. A new image, leaked by evleaks, shows what’s supposed to be the Galaxy F in “glowing gold”, which is a little different from the gold Galaxy F leaked last week. This leak also shows a September 12 date on the screen, further suggesting that the Galaxy F will be released on this date. The Galaxy F reportedly will have a metal body, and many features similar to the Galaxy S5 LTE-A. Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S5 LTE-A will not be released outside of Korea, so perhaps the Galaxy F will be the company’s n…

Samsung’s new Android Wear smartwatch to be unveiled at Google I/O
by Guest Alihassan Mahdi- 0 replies
With just a week left for Google’s developer conference to kick off, a new report from CNET suggests that Samsung will unveil its first Android Wear device at the conference, citing sources familiar with the matter. The device is likely to be similar to the Samsung Gear devices released last year. Android Wear, announced in March, is Google’s operating system designed specifically for smartwatch and wearables. The device is said to be powered by Samsung’s own chips together with another model of processors produced by Qualcomm. The company refused to provide a comment on the Android Wear device but stated that it’s “committed to relentless innovation and new product…

What to expect at I/O’14 – Design
by Guest Alihassan Mahdi- 0 replies
Not much is left before the Google I/O 2014 event takes place and Roman Nurik, a Design Advocate at Google, has made a post on Google Developers Blog about what to expect at Google I/O 2014 in terms of design. This year, the event is suited for designers and developers who have an interest in design. He mentions that the event includes a “Designing for wearables” session that will be held on Wednesday at 4-5 PM where interested audiences will get to hear the company’s “take on new design approaches to wearable technology” and the process for Android Wear and Glass. Then there will be a number of workshops including a “Design sprints with Google Ventures” workshop th…

Moto X+1 might feature a 4K video recording
by Guest Alihassan Mahdi- 0 replies
The Moto X+1 has been grabbing headlines for quite some time now and a blurry video of the device was just leaked yesterday. However, today we get to see the camera capability of the device. A video that appeared on YouTube earlier allegedly appears to be a video sample of the Moto X+1 featuring a 4K video recording. The video quality isn’t as impressive but it can be due to the YouTube compression which effects its quality. However, the main issue was that the focusing wasn’t quite consistent. Yet, we can’t be judgmental since the device is still in the prototyping stage and is not the final build ready for consumers. Take a look at the video right after the break.…

Sprint is close to taking another huge step toward buying T-Mobile
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

It looks like Sprint is really gearing up to buy T-Mobile, whether regulators want to see it happen or not. Reuters' sources say that Sprint is very close to raising a $40 billion debt package from eight different banks that it will use to buy up T-Mobile, including "a bridge loan of roughly $20 billion from Japan's Softbank Corp to Sprint." Reuters expects that the package will be finalized within the next month, which will take Sprint another big step close to buying up the so-called "Uncarrier." Continue reading... Microsoft is set to launch the next generation of its Nokia X line of phones, at least according to two teaser images posted by Nokia. A new post on the Nokia Conversations blog suggests a new Nokia X phone could come as soon as next Tuesday. An image with an X and the date June 24th is on the site and can be seen below. The site also features a countdown clock that is counting down to June 24th. The same teaser image and countdown clock can be seen on a Chinese version of the Nokia site as well. Continue reading... The stupidest $1 million app ever has already been hacked
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Who would have thought that the stupidest $1 million app in world history would have shoddy security? Yo, the inexplicably dumb new messaging app that was created in just eight hours and has raised $1 million in funding, has already been hacked by college students at Georgia Tech. As TechCrunch reports, the students figured out how to get any Yo user's phone number and then use it to spam out an infinite number of "Yo's" to anyone in their contacts. Basically, the Georgia Tech kids have discovered how to take an app that's already annoying and make it even more annoying. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Netflix may have finally found an ISP it actually likes
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

Netflix might have finally found an ally in a very contentious market. Reuters reports that German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom is in talks with Netflix regarding a potential marketing alliance once the U.S.-based video service begin its international expansion. The news comes via Manager Magazine, a German publication in which it is noted that the two companies are rather far along in negotiations, but they have not reached a deal. In fact, Netflix was still weighing its options with other German telecom companies at the time of publication. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

NVIDIA-powered Chromebook by Acer appears online
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
NVIDIA hasn’t yet had one of its chips in a Chromebook, but there’s a first for everything, right? It looks like that first is coming now, as a listing for the Acer Chromebook CB5 has appeared on a Swedish retailer’s site — Komplett.se. The device sports a Tegra K1 CPU with 4GB RAM, a 32GB SSD and a 13.3-inch HD display. There will also be the standard headphone jack, 2 USB 3.0 ports, and an ethernet port. So how likely is this the real deal? While we can’t say with 100% certainty, the photos look legit. Since the listing was discovered the site has also pulled down pricing and spec details, though at least the images and product name remain. Pricing and ot…

New Moto X+1 video leaks — it’s blurry, but it’s something
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
Good news, looks like we have another Moto X+1 leak for you guys today! It’s not much though, as the video is simply a close-up of the device’s screen shot with an iPhone camera. The video is meant to show the pixel density, and the person taking the video said he would take another video with a better camera soon. When that video is released, we’ll let you know. We’ve received other leaks here and here regarding the same device. We can’t promise that the video will remain online for long, as YouTube tends to remove these types of leak videos pretty quickly, but the other leaked videos haven’t been removed, so we’ll see what happens. Amazon dangles carrot worth $15,000 of Amazon Coins in front of developers to optimize apps...
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
Many industry forecasters have said that Amazon has set itself up for failure with its new Fire Phone — the device doesn’t have the specs we’ve come to expect from extreme high-end devices, and some of the features, like the camera identification feature that links straight to the Amazon app, isn’t exactly new in terms of technology (Google Goggles) and seems a bit gimmicky. Not the mention the price is pretty steep (right up there with today’s flagships, the Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8) and its AT&T exclusivity. However, Amazon will be doing anything and everything it can to make sure the device doesn’t fail. Today, the company announced that it will be giving ou…

Updated rumors on the Nexus 8 and HTC One (M8) Prime
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies

We have some information that’s been passed along on the web today regarding both the HTC One (M8) Prime and the Nexus 8. Hit the break to find out what’s going on with these two devices. We previously reported that the HTC One (M8) Prime was supposedly cancelled, or at least postponed. The device, which was supposed to be a higher-end version of the HTC One M8, (yes, we wondered how that was possible, too) would have featured a screen with a 1440 x 2560 resolution, 3GB of RAM, a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, LTE-A Cat. 6 connectivity and a Duo Camera on the back, like its predecessor. Today’s rumor tell us that the previous reports were correct — there will be…

Nest to acquire Dropcam for $555 million
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies

Today Nest announced that they would be purchasing IP camera company Dropcam for a whopping $555 million. The purchase of Dropcam is apparently happening without the assistance of Nest’s parent company, Google, and Dropcam will be incorporated into the Nest brand. Dropcam has become known for creating WiFi surveillance cameras, and released a Pro version of their camera last year for $199. Dropcam also provides a service to allow users to see what their camera is seeing via the web or a mobile app. We don’t know just yet how the cameras will be incorporated into Nest, but it will surely be interesting!
