Now we know how Apple will make the iWatch into the ultimate fitness device
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
It's been a big news week for Apple's iWatch and now 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman has weighed in with a new report that claims Apple has been working with several professional athletes — including Lakers star Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Kings right winger Dustin Brown and an unnamed member of the Boston Red Sox — to make sure the iWatch can hold up under the most strenuous of conditions. Gurman says that these athletes have been testing out all aspects of the iWatch, including widely expected features such as its heart-rate monitor and its step tracker, as well as other features that "read a person’s hydration levels, blood pressure, and sweat." DON'T PAY FULL PRICE FOR AMAZON'S PHONE: Here's when you can expect to see a Fire Phone fire...
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
No matter how excited you are by the Fire Phone, it might be in your best interest to wait before you preorder. DealNews took a look back through its archives to try and find a pattern that the Fire Phone may end up following, and according to the data, "mainstream Android phones see a 50% discount just two months after their release" on average. Those deals are coming even sooner as the market becomes increasingly competitive. For example, Samsung's Galaxy S5 was discounted by up to 55% one month after its release, and is currently on track to hit $0 (with a two-year contract) before Black Friday. Continue reading... If you're looking for a more convenient way to keep your smartphone charged while you're traveling then you may want to give Zolo a look. Zolo, a recently launched Indiegogo project, has come up with a very clever way to help you keep your phone charged with minimal hassle by creating a case for your smartphone that can magnetically latch onto a battery pack. Unfortunately, the case doesn't yet support wireless charging so you still need to hook your phone up to the battery when a small cable even though the two devices are magnetically stuck together. T-Mobile flips the switch for VoLTE on a few devices
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Right after boasting its wideband LTE and VoLTE networks, T-Mobile has turned on voice over LTE (VoLTE) for a few devices. The devices come from both Samsung and LG. The update to enable VoLTE is appearing on the Galaxy S 5, Galaxy Note 3, and G Flex. Technically, the update only matters (right now) if you are in one of the 16 markets that the carrier’s VoLTE network has been launched in. Until then, just enjoy the update and wait until your market gets VoLTE. Design choice delays OnePlus One in Europe
by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies
If you were one of the people in Europe who ordered the OnePlus One, you may want to check your email this morning. According to androidworld.it, the company is sending out emails to people in Europe explaining that the OnePlus One is delayed due to a design choice. Basically what it boils down to, is the company modified the CE logo to match other icons in an attempt at being as “minimalistic as possible.” Apparently, this was unacceptable and orders that were shipped to soon-to-be owners, were sent back. The email that was sent is as follows: “Hi, Thank you for ordering from oneplus.net. Unfortunately due to an issue with customs in Europe, one of our shi…

Surprise: It turns out there’s a potentially huge security flaw in Android’s app store
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
While many argue that Google’s Android malware isn’t a real problem, the fact still remains that apps with malicious capabilities are constantly being discovered. This problem is especially serious in third-party app stores, but it also exists in Google Play, where issues such as the recent app permission change might let developers silently add malicious features to their apps without the user knowing. On top of that, a new research paper details an even more serious security flaw in Google Play that can be used to expose personal details of users, even if they aren’t using an app. Continue reading... Could the Fire Phone be an even bigger dud than HTC’s Facebook phone?
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

When T-Mobile CEO John Legere this week brutally compared Amazon's Fire Phone to the HTC First, was he being optimistic? In a new video, popular YouTube gadget reviewer Marques Brownlee makes the case that the Fire Phone really might be as big of a dud as HTC's Facebook-centric phone and might actually do worse because of Amazon's pricing decisions. Supreme Court rules that software patents cannot be about abstract ideas
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
Today the Supreme Court ruled that software patents can no longer be about abstract ideas, meaning that companies will need to be a little more specific when filing their patents. The ruling was in favor of CLS Bank, a company accused by Alice Corporation of violating a number of its patents related to computer trading systems. This ruling doesn’t mean that 100s of software patents are no longer valid. The opinions that were drafted were to avoid ruling too broadly. Some abstract ideas may still be able to get patented, but generally inventors will need to do better than simply recreating basic, abstract ideas using a computer. T-Mobile’s John Legere apologizes for comments at Uncarrier event
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
T-Mobile’s John Legere had some pretty explicit words for other carriers at last night’s Uncarrier event, some of which were pretty offensive. Not only did Legere drop a few f-bombs, he compared other carrier’s actions to “raping customers.” Pretty harsh words. However, today Legere tweeted a much needed apology, saying he realized he sometimes needed a filter during his speeches: The drawback to having no filter when I speak… sometimes I need a filter. Genuinely apologize to those offended last night Do you think Legere should have apologized for what he said last night? It was definitely a mildly inappropriate thing to say, but depending on how you vie…

Android 4.4.4 factory images and binaries for Google Nexus devices posted
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
Today Google posted the Android 4.4.4 factory images for a number of the Nexus devices. The news is fairly unexpected, especially after the recent and highly publicized release of Android 4.4.3. In fact, it seems that the release is to patch up a security flaw that appears in Android 4.4.3. The flaw is essentially an OpenSSL bug that allows a man-in-the-middle attack, similarly but different from Heartbleed. The images are available on Google’s developer site, and the build number is KTU84P. Currently it is available for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 (both 2012 and 2013, WiFi-only models), and the Nexus 10. Google will also be pushing the update over-the-air. S…

First 64-bit Samsung smartphone hinted at in benchmark
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Ever since Apple launched their iPhone 5S with a 64-bit processor, other manufacturers have been trying to catch up and launch their own 64-bit devices. So far, we haven’t seen much of it in the wild, but we know Qualcomm is working on their own 64-bit processors for smartphones. A new mid-range Samsung smartphone looks like it’s going to use the Snapdragon 410 CPU, which also happens to be a 64-bit chip, making it Samsung’s first 64-bit smartphone ever. The device showed up in benchmarks with a 4.8-inch qHD screen, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, and the Snapdragon 410 and Adreno 306 combo. It’s not a flagship device, and benchmarks weren’t stellar, but it’s…

Moto X+1 leaks again, this time covered in saran wrap
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Well I can safely say I never seen a leaked image of a phone in saran wrap, but okay, I am game. This happens to be part 2 of a 5 part series revealing the Moto X+1 from TK Tech News. Part 1 was a couple of days ago, but the video had to be pulled. Now supposedly it’s in the wrap (along with a piece of paper) because TK is hiding the identifying marks on the device. Also odd is the fact that he plans on doing a comparison with the Moto X, but was unable to do it in this video because he lent out his Moto X to somebody “to use.” Basically, he says the X+1 is a little bigger than the Moto X and it has a 1080p display. He also notes the power and volume buttons are much c…

Cool concept imagines the iWatch’s home screen on a 2.5-inch display
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
We have to admit that we were surprised a bit by Thursday's Reuters report claiming that Apple's iWatch would feature a 2.5-inch display, which seems to be absolutely enormous for a smartwatch. There was at least one person who wasn't surprised by the news, however: Lewis Dorigo, a frequent poster over at MacRumors's forum, earlier this year predicted that the iWatch would have a similarly sized display and made up some concepts showing what iOS would look like on such a display.
