Google has added the ability to grab events from Gmail and present them as a card in Google Now, otherwise known as ‘inferred events’. The service has been rolled out for some users, and Now pulls information from users Gmail accounts to create a card. Users can choose whether or not they want the feature in the “everything else” section of Google Now’s settings. It’s important to note that this feature is different from Now pulling things like flight information. The service may also start pulling from other things, like Hangouts. Today ARCHOS announced two new smartphones, including the ARCHOS 50c Oxygen packing a Mediatek Octa-Core processor for only £179 ($303 USD). In addition to the 1.7GHz processor, buyers also get dual-sim capability. Outside of those specs, the 50c Oxygen is more in line with the budget pricing. It packs a 5-inch IPS HD screen running at 1280 x 720 resolution with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage expandable with an additional 64GB via microSD. It also comes with an 8MP camera capable of recording 1080p video. If the 50c Oxygen is too steep in terms of price, buyers may be interested in the 50b Oxygen. Most of the hardware is the same, but the 50b Oxygen comes equipp…

The ultimate nightmare: Researchers learn how to hack connected ‘smart home’ toilets
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Imagine a world where a sleazy hacker can make your toilet overflow on a daily basis unless you pay him a daily fee. That's the kind of nightmare scenario that researchers at Chicago security firm Trustwave are trying to prepare us for, as Bloomberg reports that they've figured out how to hack "a Bluetooth connection that controls toilets made by Japan’s Lixil Group," which could "allow hackers to open or close the lid and even squirt a stream of water at the user’s behind." Legere pounces on AT&T’s decision to raise activation fees
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
It used to be that if one mobile carrier raised activation fees, rival carriers wouldn't publicly slam them in part because they wanted to reserve the right to raise fees of their own. However, T-Mobile CEO John Legere has taken a different tack, which involves trolling AT&T nonstop for just about everything it does. So when news broke Wednesday that AT&T would be raising up its smartphone activation fees for customers who buy phones on contract, Legere predictably pounced and use it as yet another club with which to beat Ma Bell. Did Google subtly tease Android 5.0?
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Google is the kind of company that does not completely hide things behind the curtain. They throw hints and tricks into the public for everyone to speculate about. Prior to Android 4.4 KitKat’s official announcement, there was so much chatter about what it would entail and when it would actually arrive. It now seems that Google may be doing something very similar with Android 5.0, the next major release of the operating system. The image above was posted on Google’s Twitter account earlier today. It’s purpose is to promote the FIFA World Cup that starts this afternoon, but there is something (literally) smaller in the image that teases something more: the time. Take a …

Google interested in buying stake Virgin Galactic
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Google has recently become interested in launching some satellites to broadcast internet to people all over the planet, and it looks like they might be interested in scooping up a stake Virgin Galactic to help launch more satellites for a different purpose. Virgin Galactic is a spaceflight company that’s interested in offering flights for normal people in the future. The deal between the two companies would have Google invest in a joint venture with Virgin to get the business off the ground, as well as Google purchasing about $30 million worth of stake in the company. Obviously, this deal will probably end up with Google gaining access to some of Virgin Galactic’s s…

Google may launch Glass internationally at I/O this year
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Since Google opened up the Glass program a month ago, it’s been pretty easy to purchase the device, assuming you lived in the US and had $1500 to spend. However, it looks pretty likely that Google might end up opening up the country restrictions on Glass at I/O this year. Rumors point to Google releasing Glass in the UK at their annual event, and it’s likely that English-speaking countries like Australia and Canada will also have a chance to buy the device, too. There are also bits of Japanese in the code of the latest Glass APK, so there’s a chance we might see it made available in Japan, too. I/O is on June 25th this year, so we shouldn’t have to wait too mu…

Starbucks already offers WiFi access points for customers, but it looks like they’re going a step further and adding another technological convenience to their stores in the US: wireless charging mats. Duracell and Starbucks have made a joint announcement that they’ll be rolling out Duracell Powermat Spots that will be designated areas or tables where you can simply drop your (wireless charging-capable) device to juice up the battery while you wait for your coffee. The rollout for the Powermats will start in Seattle and New York, and will gradually start hitting other stores over the year. Every store should have wireless charging stations implemented by 2015. …

A huge flaw in Google's wildly popular Gmail service was recently discovered that may have exposed the email addresses of every single user. According to a report from Wired, security researcher Oren Hafif found and helped Google fix a serious bug that left Gmail users' email addresses exposed to anyone with a bit of patience. While digging up addresses would have taken quite a bit of time, the report notes that the bug had existed for years before it was fixed, and it easily could have been utilized to obtain every Gmail user's address. If you were ever tagged in an unsightly selfie or just wish to keep your tagged photos clean, the latest Facebook application update will help you out. In addition to just removing tags from your own photos, you can untag yourself from any other photo. This will save people from some embarrassment for sure. Another part of this update builds upon a new feature that arrived in May. A lot more can be done while offline. If you were looking for a chance at seeing the soon-to-be-released Galaxy S 5 Prime, Galaxy F, next to the current Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S 5, you’re in luck. The PhoneArena same tipster that released photos of the Galaxy F in the wild snagged a shot of both devices sitting right next to each other. If this is the real deal, you’ll notice that the Galaxy F comes with some pretty thin bezels. Add the dust and water resistance of the S5 with the thin bezels and metal body, you’ll have yourself a pretty robust device. Of course that all depends on the specs. Luckily, evleaks was able to deliver in that department. The Galaxy F is rumored to have a 5.3-inch Q…

Samsung Galaxy Tab S specs confirmed hours before event
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Most of the specs of the new Galaxy Tab S have been reported already, but if there is any questions still lingering, this should sum it up. First of all, there will be two versions, the 10.5 and 8.4 and there will be two variants of each with different processors. We are guessing it has to do with if the model has LTE or not. They will offer both an Exynos octa-core (4 x 1.9GHz and 4 x 1.3GHz) or a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon (most likely an 801). Both models will feature a 2560 x 1600 display (presumably AMOLED), 3GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of internal storage, microSD for up to an additional 128GB of storage, 8MP rear camera, 2.1MP front-facing camera, WiFi or WiFi/LTE, …

Galaxy Note 4 with curved glass and Gear Glass on tap for IFA 2014
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
This certainly can’t be filed into the shocking news of the day. The Korea Times is reporting that the Galaxy Note 4 will be unveiled at IFA 2014, which is when Samsung unveils the new Note smartphone each and every year. Just like last year, Samsung will offer a version with a curved display for certain markets. However, last year’s Galaxy Round didn’t feature the S Pen, but it’s not clear if this year’s variant will. The fact that the curved version will be limited isn’t a surprise, but I have to ask why LG is able to offer the G Flex in more areas? Also on tap for IFA is Samsung’s version of Glass, which is expected to be called the Gear Glass. You can also exp…
