by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

We've seen some killer specs for the Galaxy Note 4 leak recently but a new report from The Korea Times says Samsung is planning on doing something with its next flagship phablet that no one has seen coming so far. An executive at one of Samsung's supplier partners tells The Korea Times that Samsung is actually planning to release two versions of the Galaxy Note 4: One standard version with a flat display and one with a curved display that will be similar in shape to the Galaxy Round that the company released last year. Google Maps completely changed the way we travel. Planning even the shortest of trips to unfamiliar areas had been a huge hassle, but Google changed all that. Then the company took things a step further when it launched its Street View initiative, which provides users with actual imagery of the areas they search in Google Maps. Of course, the vehicles Google uses to photograph the world's roads also catch some peculiar things from time to time. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

E3 Day Two: I tried Sony’s virtual reality headset and it’s absolutely amazing
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
The first day of E3, as you can read in my Day One Report, was relatively tame. In between my meetings with Microsoft, I had plenty of time to explore the show floor, take some pictures for the inevitable E3 gallery and eat lunch at a reasonable hour. On the second day, that was not the case. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

How to watch the World Cup without paying a dime for cable TV
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
The 2014 World Cup kicks off Thursday in Brazil, with major TV channels all over the world bound to broadcast the opening ceremony. And most – if not all – games during the month-long competition will air as well. However, not all football fans will have access to those games, especially in certain markets, unless they have a cable subscription. Fret not though, because there’s a way for you to watch all the World Cup games without having to pay a dime for TV service. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

It used to be that iOS and Android were considered polar opposites: One was all about a locked-down, walled garden that delivered a very smooth user experience while the other was a wide-open platform whose freedom came at the expense of consistent user experience. However, Jan Dawson at Techpinions points out that over the past couple of years, Apple and Google have been working to make iOS and Android a lot more alike than either company would like to have you believe. Google has become better and better at providing contextual cards at the top of search results based on queries made by users. If you don’t know what I mean, just search “What’s the weather?” and you’ll find a nice-looking card with the current temperature, precipitation, humidity levels, wind speed as well as the week’s forecast. Similar cards appear for various queries, including sports data. Now, Google has added some really great looking cards for World Cup information, including team lineups before matches, schedules/brackets, standings, stats, and even a timeline of plays from the game. Just search “World Cup” or “World Cup USA” and you’ll see what I mean. …

Google to implement Quantum Paper, a new way to have uniform design across all platforms
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
For years, people have been wanting a consistent design across Android. While Google and popular developers have done a pretty good job, many third-party developers have failed to follow Google’s recommended design language. It looks like the company will unveil Quantum Paper alongside the next version of Android. Quantum Paper will provide uniform design across all platforms. This information comes from Android Police, saying that “Quantum Paper is a hugely ambitious project, looking to unify and codify paradigms for visual, motion, and interaction design across all platforms, including web, Android, and iOS.” This is not related to Project Hera; however, Quantum Paper’s…

The Android smartphone for people who are sick of Android smartphones
by Guest Ben Zigterman- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/26744d7e96f4dd003bf06316cae6b469.png When Lari Numminen and Jukka Kekäläinen set out to improve the user experience on Android, they did not expect to create an entire new phone. Instead, they initially built an Android app that would offer a simple interface for launching your most-used apps. The app eventually was installed 10,000 times, but the developers realized that people still had to use Android's complex pre-installed apps in addition to their own. To solve this, they decided to create their own phone, which is called the Zilta and will be available in December for €139 (about $189) in Europe. Continue reading... …

E3 Preview: ‘The Order: 1886′ brings cinematic warfare to the PS4
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
In many ways, The Order: 1886 is just another third-person, cover-based shooter. As a member of the eponymous Order, you'll be equipped with the requisite weapons and equipment you need to take on the rebel forces and the half-breed monsters that have overrun 19th century London. Where this game differentiates itself from other games in the genre is its visual flare -- The Order: 1886 looks like a film, and it's unlike anything I've ever seen before. Continue reading... Remember when some of us thought that Apple's iTunes Radio might be a significant competitor with Pandora when it was announced last year? Well, we were definitely laughably wrong about that but we do feel confident in saying that Amazon's new music streaming service won't pose much of a threat to Spotify. The New York Times reports that Amazon's new music streaming service will launch as soon as next week but it won't feature any new releases and it won't have any albums from the Universal Music Group, which just happens to be the world's largest music company. The FCC wants states to stop killing municipal fiber networks that put cable to shame
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Over the past several years, we've seen brave state legislatures rise up to tackle the most dangerous threat to the American way of life: Small towns that hate their incumbent cable companies and want to build their own broadband networks. DSLReports points out that Federal Communications Commission chairman Tom Wheeler has written a new blog post where he points out that some towns and cities have successfully built their own high-speed fiber networks and that those municipalities haven't yet succumbed to communism. Verizon to get LG G3 in mid-July
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
When LG announced the LG G3 at the end of May, one key piece of information that was missing was a schedule of availability. LG has gone on a bit of a marketing blitz regarding the new LG G3, but the question that seems to inevitably keep coming up is, “when can I get one?” For Verizon customers, a new leak suggests it will be the middle of July. The tip, routed through @evleaks, indicates Verizon will start taking pre-orders on July 10th and the device will actually be available starting on July 17th. Unless something unusual is in the works, we suspect the other major carriers may release the LG G3 on the same day, so we will keep an eye out for those announcements o…

Samsung Galaxy Avant with LTE coming to T-Mobile
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
T-Mobile may be preparing to release a new LTE capable device made by Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Avant. The device has a model number of SM-G386, and appears to be T-Mobile’s variant of the Galaxy Core LTE. Right now, only a picture of the device has been leaked, and we don’t yet have specs. However, assuming that the device is similar to the Galaxy Core LTE, it should have a 4.4-inch display, a 5MP camera, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, and 8GB of expandable memory. We don’t have a release date for the device yet, but it may be July 28, which is the date shown on the devices screen. Source: evleaks Come comment on this article: Samsung Galaxy Avant with LTE co…

The Alcatel OneTouch Fierce 2 and Alcatel OneTouch Evolve 2 are successors to a pair of budget smartphones that T-Mobile released last fall. Pushbullet and EvolveSMS are teaming up to give users Motorola Connect-like features on their devices. The software will allow users to view and reply to SMS messages on their Android phone from their computers. The software is currently in beta, so there might still be a few bugs, but the idea is that the partnership will deliver similar results to what Motorola did with the Moto X and Motorola Connectivity suite. Instead of having to reach for their phone to see and respond to messages, users can simply reply on their computer. To install the software, users will need to follow instructions on the Google+ announcement, which can be found by following the source …

REVIEW: This is the one accessory every smartphone owner should have
by Guest Darren Murph- 0 replies

I’m hoping that things change in the (near) future, but for now, my smartphone outsmarts any in-car navigation system that I’ve seen. To date, I have yet to find anything as excellent as having Google Maps leading the way, which presents a relatively simple problem: How is one supposed to mount his or her phone in their vehicle without leaving any permanent scars? HTC’s Prime phablet is not as dead as you might think
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

HTC has been rumored for a while to be working on an HTC One (M8) Prime that would take on the Galaxy S5 Prime and the LG G3, but then @evleaks revealed in late May that plans to launch the phone has been put on hold. Even so, that doesn’t mean HTC’s plans for a flagship phablet are dead, as the same source has now learned that a Prime device will be launched in the future, but not this year. Continue reading... Cool new accessory adds a wireless external flash to your iPhone
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Compared to most other smartphones, Apple's iPhone takes impressive low-light photos. In fact, the latest-generation iPhone 5s features a new dual-LED flash that improves low-light photography even more. But only so much can be accomplished by one or two tiny LED bulbs, and a new iPhone accessory looks to solve the problem of limited light by moving the flash off of the phone. Continue reading... Apple will reportedly update its iMac line next week, French publication MacGeneration has learned, although the new iMac models won’t feature Retina displays. Instead, the new iMacs said to be coming next week will receive a processor bump and possibly new Thunderbolt 2 ports. The news apparently comes from the same source who accurately predicted the launch of new MacBook Airs. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report
