Motorola Alert now available for Moto X and Moto G
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
When Motorola announced their low-budget Motorola Moto E smartphone, one of the new apps they released at the same time was Motorola Alert. The Motorola Alert app has a dual purpose – it can track the location of a device and send a notification when certain places are reached and it can be used to trigger a virtual call for help via automated notifications. Motorola indicated the app would eventually be available for other devices they produce. True to their word, the app is now available for additional devices including the Moto X and the Moto G. It does appear that Motorola Alert requires Android 4.4.3, so your Moto device will need to be updated to use the app. …

‘Smart Hoodie’ responds to different gestures
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
With wearable tech taking off, a number of companies are experimenting with the possibilities behind it. A group of students in New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) have created what they’re called the “Smart Hoodie”, which responds to different gestures. A GSM radio is essentially sewn into the sweatshirt, and the demonstrators of the device show three different gestures – touching the hood, touching a sleeve, and rolling up a sleeve. Each of these gestures sends a text message to a pre-programmed contact. The demo of the device focused primarily on staying in contact with family members, but it could be used for other purposes, like…

by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies

With so many wearable devices coming to market it is getting increasingly difficult for any one of them to generate significant buzz. One device that does seem to have captured the interest of industry watchers is the Motorola Moto 360 smartwatch. This can be seen by the sharp-eyed folks who spotted an inadvertent appearance by the Moto 360 on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon late last week. During the show, Fallon had Joshua Topolsky, Editor Chief with The Verge, on the show for a segment covering a Lytro camera an a new VR headset from Sony. Although he never discussed it or pointed out that he had it, during the segment a watch was spotted on his wrist. It appears…

Google releases call reminder feature on Google Now
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
It seems like there’s new features being released to Google Now every week. This weeks new feature is that Google Now will now parse your call reminder queries for contacts in your phone numbers and local businesses, and add a call button automatically. Once Google Now recognizes that the reminder is linked to a business, it will add the call button, and once that button is pressed, users will see a list of local matches for that particular business. The feature will vary depending on the users location, but it still is a cool feature, and shows the lengths Google is willing to go to in order to improve Google Now. Don’t miss your stop with new Google Now alarm
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
If you get to travel using public transportation on a regular basis, the next time you board your train, subway or bus, you may want to check out Google Now. It appears a new option has been added that will let you set an alarm for when you are close to your final stop. The new feature uses locations like Home and Work that you may have setup as favorites in Google Maps. It does not seem to be connected to a device’s clock app which is normally used for alarms, operating completely through Google Now. The nice thing is Google handles all the calculations, so all you have to do is hit a button to set the alarm. So the next time you are traveling via the public transi…

by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

Lately we’ve seen Google push for location-sensitive reminders in Google Now, especially with the monthly walking counts and parking spot reminders, but it looks like they’re close to finally adding in contact-based reminders and notifications. In short, Google Now will be able to give you a notification about something whenever you’re around a particular person or place. According to Android Police, the functionality for Nearby is going to be baked into a Play Store Services update, since it will rely heavily on checking some of the hardware on your phone to tell when you’re around another person. Nearby will need location history and location reporting turned on, …

Apple just announced its HomeKit development platform for "smart home" apps earlier this week but the creative minds at Philips have revealed that they're already hard at work making an app to take advantage of it. Philips this week sent out a message on Twitter showing off a concept prototype for a new iOS 8 widget that would give you control over Philips' Hue wireless lighting system from your iPhone's notification center. As you can see from the picture posted below, the concept widget would let you select from several different lighting settings on iOS 8, including color schemes such as Sunset and Deep Sea. We're sure this is going to be just the first of many new "sm…

John Legere to remain CEO if T-Mobile successfully merges with Sprint
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

One of the nation’s most badass executives will not be going anywhere even if his company goes through a merger. I’m talking about John Legere, T-Mobile’s very vocal CEO. If T-Mobile and Sprint successfully merge after agreeing to a deal, Legere will remain at the helm of the conglomerate. We have already heard Sprint CEO Dan Hesse would have no problem stepping back and allowing someone else lead. Bloomberg is reporting that negotiations are ongoing and Legere is at the forefront of the future. If there is anything the mobile industry needed from carriers, it is a firecracker and that is certainly what T-Mobile has in John Legere. His Un-carrier movement has forced ot…

WATCH THIS IMMEDIATELY: Netflix's best show is now back for season 2
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Netflix rocked the television industry when it announced its $100 million deal for House Of Cards. The star-studded series showed the world that Netflix meant business. It wanted to be the HBO of the Internet. As for delivering on that promise, House Of Cards was... good. The production quality was most certainly impressive and the acting was solid, for the most part, but the writing was a bit lacking and the storyline was painfully predictable. The real jewel in Netflix's original programming crown, it turns out, is Orange Is the New Black. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Legere will reportedly become Sprint’s CEO if it buys T-Mobile
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Verizon and AT&T probably aren't fans of Sprint's plan to buy T-Mobile and now they have yet another reason to hate it: Apparently it will make T-Mobile CEO John Legere more powerful. Bloomberg's sources say that Legere, the notoriously foul-mouthed CEO with a reputation for shameless publicity stunts, will stay on as CEO of a newly merged Sprint and T-Mobile if the two companies' reported $32 billion merger proposal passes regulatory inspection. Jonathan Chaplin, an analyst at New Street Research, tells Bloomberg that giving Legere this additional power will make him "twice as crazy" because he'll have "double the asset base to work with."
