Android, Samsung maintain strong positions in U.S. smartphone market in April
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
comScore has released their latest numbers for the U.S. smartphone market from April 2014 showing Samsung and Android continue to grow at the expense of almost everyone else. Samsung saw the number of smartphone subscribers owning one of their devices grow by a full percentage point since January 2014, up to 27.7% of the market. Of the top five manufacturers, Samsung was the only one to see growth during that period with both Apple and LG suffering the biggest losses of 0.2% and 0.4% respectively. Motorola and HTC also saw their market share slip slightly. In terms of operating system platforms for smartphones, Android continued to maintain their position on top, impro…

Latest Sony Xperia Z3 rumors say September release, compact version but no Ultra
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Some new rumors have surfaced regarding the Sony Xperia Z3 from Twitter tipster @DooMLoRD_XDA. The latest bits of news appear to confirm some earlier reports, contradict some, and add in some new bits of information. According to the latest information, the Xperia Z3 will be released in September. That is consistent with statements made by Sony earlier this year indicating they thought flagship devices need to be released more often than once a year. Sony’s Kurozumi Yoshiro also said at MWC 2014 that Sony was going to go in a new design direction which @DooMLoRD_XDA seems to confirm by indicating the Xperia Z3 will have a new design with slim bezels and will be only 7 mm …

Chrome Web Store now links to Android apps
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
A new update to the Chrome Web Store was recently launched, now showing links to extensions and apps that will also work on Android. The store will have a link that says “Available for Android,” allowing users to link directly to the Google Play Store. The links are currently only one way, and links to the Chrome Web Store from Google Play are not yet shown. This move might signal that Google is planning on merging the two stores. by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies

We have read rumors that Verizon was considering adding the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet to its portfolio of tablet devices available for consumers. That rumor picked up some new steam today thanks to a leaked image posted by Twitter tipster @evleaks. The image is a front and back view of the Xperia Z2 Tablet showing Verizon branding laid down right in the middle of the back of the device. Of course, we still have no idea of when this may happen, but the existence of a pre-release image could be an indication that the wait may not be too much longer. source: @evleaks (official site) Come comment on this article: Image of Verizon branded Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet surfaces …

Next time you need to know how to say “hello” in French, Google Translate may give you more than just that. Google is experimenting with offering much more information than just a straightforward definition. Basically, everything down to the word’s usage history can be found through Google Translate. I have noticed Google Search doing all of this for a few months, but now it seems that Google Translate is getting the same kind of attention. Undo the damage: How to roll back to iOS 7.1 after installing iOS 8
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
Apple's new iOS 8 software is pretty awesome — or at least, it will be when it launches to the public sometime this fall. Right now, as is always the case with early iOS beta software, iOS 8 is buggy and unpolished. The software is intended only for developers, because they need early access in order to update their apps and build new apps that utilize all of iOS 8's new features. Of course, that won't stop tens of thousands of non-developers from installing the iOS 8 beta on their personal iPhones, iPads and iPod touch handhelds. Continue reading... When Microsoft first announced the Xbox One, the company pitched its new console as an entertainment hub for the living room. Although the console launched with plenty of apps and features to make that promise a reality, some of the most requested entertainment apps are still absent. Five days out from E3 2014, Microsoft is finally ready to start discussing those apps, including HBO GO, Showtime Anytime, Comedy Central, MLG and Twitter. Continue reading... by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Samsung must be pretty confident that its upcoming "premium" Galaxy F smartphone can go toe-to-toe with the iPhone 6 because it's apparently planning to launch the device at nearly the same time. One of @evleaks' tipsters claims that Samsung is going to unveil the Galaxy F this coming September, which means it will likely be revealed alongside the Galaxy Note 4 and a short time before Apple takes the wraps off the 4.7-inch iPhone 6. Paid apps gone free: List One for iPhone offers a unique twist on lists
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced during his recent WWDC 2014 keynote presentation that his company's App Store is now home to more than 1.2 million apps. By our estimation, approximately 1.19 million of them are list apps. Ok, perhaps the actual figure isn't quite that high, but list apps need to offer users a unique feature set in order to separate themselves from the crowd. Many apps look to do that by dumping in tons of features that might ultimately overwhelm the user and cause confusion. List One takes a different approach: It keeps functionality simple and straightforward, but allows users to customize the look and feel of their lists. Continue reading... V…

LG G Watch may have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 inside
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

Today’s LG G Watch leak brought information that got people thinking about a few things. After some digging it seems that the processor running the G Watch may be known. Unsurprisingly, it looks like Qualcomm owns the real estate inside with its Snapdragon 400 SoC. The reason to believe that the Snapdragon 400 is inside is because of the model number found within the system dump. The model number “msm8226″ belongs only with the Snapdragon 400. You can see some more details for yourself in the image below. This one story illustrates why everyone hates Comcast
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said last week that he and his team "don’t wake up everyday and go to work and say we want to be hated" and then suggested that everyone hates Comcast because other companies such as TV studios are constantly forcing it to raise its customers' prices. However, one story flagged by Consumerist actually shows perfectly well why Comcast is one of America's two most hated companies and it has nothing to do with higher cable prices. Continue reading... Apple’s iCloud is a major feature of both iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 Yosemite, with the iPhone maker having announced significant improvements for its cloud solution at WWDC 2014, including more affordable prices. However, that doesn’t mean Apple’s cloud is the cheapest one available. In the very competitive cloud business, other major players including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Dropbox and Box have their own affordable offers. CNET has put together a price comparison between these various offers. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

The highly anticipated Xbox One June update is here, Microsoft announced, bringing several interesting features to users, including external storage support and better access to apps. Users will now be able to connect their external hard drives to the console in order to supplement the limited (for some) storage available on the device, and access more games and media files. The company says that USB 3.0-ready hard drives that have at least 256GB of storage will be compatible with the Xbox One, which will recognize such an external drive as the default storage option for future downloads once it's configured. Users will be able to connect up to two external drives simulta…

This will allow users to not have to set up complex encryption tools, and instead can just use the extension. According to Google, users should be aware that currently the add-on is just an alpha release, and that there are likely still a few bugs in it. Could this be Android’s new logo?
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
Ever since Android was first released, it has kept the same logo. Now, five and a half years after the first Android device was released, Google might be looking to change that logo. A boot animation for the upcoming LG G Watch shows what might be the future logo of Android, when, towards the end of the video we see a new Android watermark. If it turns out to be real, the new logo is all lowercase, and much softer and friendlier than the old logo. A new logo wouldn’t be completely unexpected. When Google owned Motorola, they rebranded the company to take on a rounder and friendlier look. Source: The Verge Come comment on this article: Could this be Android’s…

Here’s one major new Yosemite and iOS 8 feature that got overlooked
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Apple on Monday took the wraps off OS X Yosemite and iOS 8, two major updates for its computers and mobile devices, that have plenty of interesting features to lure in customers. There’s one new Yosemite and iOS 8 feature that got easily overlooked and will be taken for granted each day once these operating systems are released. This new feature deserves to be acknowledged, as it's a major update for Apple, especially considering the current state of this particular business: Apple's completely new Spotlight search feature available on both OSes. The absolute worst Apple vs. Google analysis you’ll read all week
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

My least favorite kind of tech punditry involves saying that some company is "losing" or even better "doomed" because it's not behaving exactly as one of its competitors is behaving. We hear all the time that both Apple and Microsoft are "doomed" even though they are enormously profitable companies that account for two of the three largest market caps in the tech world. One shining example of this sort of punditry comes to us courtesy of FinancesOnline, which declares that Apple is falling far behind Google because the products that it's releasing don't seem as exciting as Google Glass. I am not making this up. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

In fact, shortly after the keynote ended, Apple went behind closed doors to give another presentation to developers in which the company revealed a new feature for iOS 8: controller forwarding. 9to5Mac reports that controller forwarding is the continuation of the MFi controller compatibility Apple brought to the iPhone last year. With iOS 8, an iPhone equipped with an MFi controller, like the Razer Junglecat seen above, can be used as a controller for an iPad or a Mac. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Rep…
