Acer rumored to be releasing 5-inch device on AT&T
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
Acer has announced a new 5-inch phone for AT&T — although most of the specs (internals) are expected to be midrange, it still features a full-HD display. The device will also have an 8MP sensor for its main camera on the back. We don’t have any pictures or pricing for the device, but it should be pretty inexpensive. Expect more information when AT&T makes the phone official, most likely in the coming weeks. Keep in mind that this is a pretty rare appearance by Acer on North American shores, as the company has focused mainly on European and Asian markets in the past. This could be Acer testing the waters for perhaps something bigger to come, or it could be…

When you inevitably drop your precious LG G3 and break its screen the week after you get it, don’t fret. According to the folks at UBreakIFix, it isn’t the end of the world. The team completed a tear-down of the Korean variant of the device and found that the LG G3 is incredibly simple to take apart and repair. You only need to take out 14 screws after prying off the plastic casing, and all the components are attached to a single board. For more details, hit the source link after the break. Leaked image of 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Mega device spotted
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Although most device manufacturers would classify a device with a 7-inch screen as a tablet, Samsung appears to be intent on introducing a 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 (or possibly Galaxy Mega 7.0 or Galaxy W) that will be considered a smartphone. The device was just recently cleared by the FCC, so it looks like it is definitely heading to the U.S. market. The leaked image comes from a case maker who is working on their accessories to be ready for the device’s launch. The unit shown in the image is labeled for China Mobile, so it looks like China will be getting a version of the device in addition to South Korea where it may be marketed as the Samsung Galaxy W. You may…

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 press render leaks
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Here is a pretty clear look at the upcoming Galaxy Tab S 10.5 from Samsung. It seems like the Galaxy Tab S line with closely resemble the design language of the Galaxy S 5. Even the software looks the same, albeit scaled for a 10.5-inch tablet. On the front is the same button layout and fingerprint sensor. And for the back panel, Samsung is using an identical material. On the right side we have a charging port, microSD card slot, and a speaker. The left side has nothing but a speaker. While the bottom is bare, the top has the power and volume buttons. Google reveals new page to handle data suppression requests in EU
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Earlier this month a European court created a new “right to be forgotten” for citizens living in the European Union covered by the court’s jurisdiction. This new right means users can request search engines suppress information that may be returned by a search query. After the ruling was issued, Google started to receive a flood of requests for application of the new right. Google indicated at the time that they would create an online mechanism for users to submit these requests. That process has debuted via a help request form accessed on Google support pages. According to Google, this is just an initial effort that they expect to be refined over time. At this point, …

Had enough of stock Android on your Nexus 5? Then put Firefox OS on it. A developer over on XDA was successful in bringing a Firefox OS nightly to Google’s vanilla smartphone. There are a few minor issues being worked on, so you may want to wait just a little bit longer. Though, people are saying it can be used daily without much of an issue. The two problems have to do with the camera preview and enterprise features. But if you just cannot wait any longer, hit the source link to get started. This tiny wooden hexagon might make physical media relevant again
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

In a world that’s more and more focused on digital content rather than physical media, Qleek wants to make physical media popular and beautiful again by reinventing how digital content is stored and played. Qleek is composed of a wooden media player that can play whatever’s on a Tapp, which is a tiny wooden hexagon capable of carrying all sorts of data, including pictures, videos and music. A Tapp is also user-customizable, both in terms of its external appearance and the content it carries. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Did Google censor search results for a key Nest rival?
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Forget net neutrality — do we need search neutrality as well? Pando reports that home automation company Vivint found itself mysteriously removed from Google search results this past winter just two weeks after the search giant officially announced its acquisition of rival home automation company Nest. Although Vivint is now appearing again in related searches, the company says it never got a clear explanation for why it was removed or why it took Google four months to restore its status. Did Apple accidentally reveal the iPhone 6 during WWDC preparations?
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

The iPhone 6 really won't be much of a surprise whenever it's finally revealed since we've been seeing leaks showing us its exact shape and size for the past several weeks. However, Nowhereelse.fr has published a new video that was purportedly filmed during Apple's preparations for its Worldwide Developers Conference next week that the site claims shows a full render of the iPhone 6. The FCC may finally admit that 4Mbps doesn’t count as ‘broadband’ anymore
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

When companies like Comcast talk about all of the intense "competition" they face in the broadband market, changes are they're talking either about competition from mobile carriers that have capped data plans or from 5Mbps DSL services that are no longer adequate to meet our needs in the age of Netflix streaming. However, The Washington Post reports that the Federal Communications Commission is finally looking into changing its antiquated definition of broadband, which now stands at any Internet service that delivers download speeds of 4Mbps or higher. by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

Yesterday we learned that Verizon would be adding the Electric Blue color of the Galaxy S 5 to its lineup. And now we have a look at the device. As expected, the color of the back panel is the only change made. Verizon’s branding remains just below the camera and heart rate sensor setup. Currently, Big Red has the Charcoal Black and Shimmery White GS5 colors. Are you interested in the Electric Blue color? Samsung files for “Galaxy Wear” trademark, could this be its upcoming Android Wear smartwatch?
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
Samsung made the switch to Tizen OS from Android today when it changed the current operating system on the Galaxy Gear in an update. Samsung previously noted that a future smartwatch from the manufacturer would be running Android Wear, Google’s specially-developed OS for wearable devices. Samsung’s return to Android in the wearables sector may be coming sooner than we originally thought, as a recent trademark filing suggests. The company filed for the name “Galaxy Wear” at the Korean Intellectual Property Office. Of course we don’t know any other details, or even whether this will in fact be the name of Samsung’s future device running Android Wear, but it does…

Android TV will be showcased at Google I/O, packs a secret weapon
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Google eagerly wants a piece of your living room. A few years ago, they attempted to do so with Google TV and that completely flopped. The Google TV team was separate from the Android team, despite the service running the same operating system. Google TV was trying to bring television components to the forefront rather than relying upon online services like almost everyone else does. There was a lack of focus on the services that people really cared about. But according to GigaOm, that is all set to change at Google I/O when the company unveils Android TV. We have already heard about Android TV with some screenshots (also above) that allegedly show its interface. Every…

Google releases Stars Chrome extension and web interface
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
Google has reinvented the Chrome bookmark system, and called it Google Stars. The new system was first spotted almost a month ago, and just today it briefly went live, until it was pulled back by Google. It looks like the system is still in its testing phase, and Google hasn’t yet made any official announcements. The new bookmark system essentially collects data about things you’re interested in and things you’ve bookmarked, and these things are then arranged by date. Users can easily organize bookmarks, or “stars” into folders for easy access, and even share the folders if they want to. Google Stars has a pretty slick interface, and should also contribute to dete…

Review: MLB 14 The Show for PS4
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

Sports game franchises are infamous for their inability to break new ground. Year after year, with the same modes, the same features, the same mechanics -- it's all too easy to fall into a slump, one which has arguably stricken many of the EA Sports titles. As competition fades away, the problem gets worse, but even as the only developer with a triple-A baseball game on the market, SCEA's San Diego Studio has managed to go above and beyond what I expected from MLB 14 The Show. Samsung has somehow found a way to make the Galaxy Gear less useful
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/ea7e5aa6f59232afe11cd348aac4f8d0.png Samsung's first Galaxy Gear was never all that useful to begin with but Samsung has just come up with a way to make it even less so. SamMobile reports that Samsung is now upgrading the first-generation Galaxy Gear smartwatch to its own homemade Tizen platform — yes, you read that correctly, it's issuing an update that will completely replace the watch's entire operating system. But that's not all — SamMobile found that upgrading to Tizen through Samsung's Kies upgrade hub will wipe out all data that you have on your device, although thankfully Samsung warns you about this beforehand and give…

Google, Amazon among tech companies trying to prevent the next Heartbleed
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

If there's one thing that can make the competitive tech industry band together, it's security. Last month, the Heartbleed bug affected nearly everyone in the industry, requiring millions of customers to change their passwords and rethink the safety that their services provide them. The Wall Street Journal reports that several of the biggest tech firms on the planet are doing what they can to prevent the next Heartbleed by helping to pay the salaries of full-time employees and funding an audit for the OpenSSL Project. Google kicks off complex procedure to respect your ‘right to be forgotten’
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

European citizens can ask search engines including Google to “forget” links to certain stories about them, a local court recently decided, and Google is taking the first steps towards offering this feature to users. Google has published a complex tool that should help users get links to sensitive content removed from Google’s listings, although the feature is only available in Europe right now. Samsung is collaborating with Oculus for VR headset
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Last week, news broke that Samsung is getting into the Virtual Reality headset game, but there wasn’t a whole lot of information about it. Now a few more details are being reported by Engadget. The first question that came to my mind when I heard the news is how the hell could Samsung create such a device without having much gaming experience like Oculus VR and Sony? Well it turns out that Samsung is working with Oculus VR on this product. Yup, that’s the same company that created the Oculus Rift and was bought by Facebook. Oculus VR is taking care of the software while Samsung handles the hardware. Now you might be asking yourself why would Oculus VR do this? It’…

GO Launcher EX updated to version 5 with new flat theme and features
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
GO Launcher EX is one of the most fully-featured third party launchers you’ll find on the Play Store, even if it can be a little bloated at times. The GO Dev team has updated the launcher to version 5 that comes with a handful of new features and a flattened interface design that’s all the rage with design teams right now. The app now has “smart cards” that function pretty similarly to smart assistants or Google Now, plus a new GO Panel that gives you quick access to frequently used apps and features. The entire interface has also adopted a flat theme, which honestly does look quite a bit like something forked from TouchWiz. If you’re a fan of Samsung’s new TouchWiz…

Original Galaxy Note 10.1 seeing KitKat update in Germany
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
If you’re still using an original Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet, don’t worry, Samsung hasn’t forgotten about you. The original Note 10.1, the GT-N8000, is starting to see prompts for an update to Android 4.4.2 in Germany, both OTA and through Samsung Kies. The update brings the device up to par with other Samsung devices on KitKat, bringing better performance and battery life, some redesigned interface elements (think white status bar icons) and wireless printing support, plus everything that’s native to KitKat. Samsung is likely using Germany to test out the update at first, so we’ll probably see it pushed out to the rest of the world pretty soon. source: Sa…
