Well Google and Motorola might be parting, but they sure act like they are still together. Yesterday, we told you that Google is looking for developers to submit Android Wear apps for feedback ahead of the launch of the G Watch and Moto 360. Now Motorola has stepped forward asking for people to submit watch face designs for a contest ahead of their Moto 360 launch. You don’t have to be a developer for this one, just a good designer. You just need to grab one of the official template PSDs, and entries need to be in the JPG, PNG, or GIF format. You have until June 10, 2014 (3:00pm CST) to get your entry in. A judging panel will then pick the 10 best and post them on Goog…

Google advertising could appear just about everywhere
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
A few years ago, advertising served up by Google was confined to a sidebar on the search giant’s results page. Since then, Google has gone on to develop a variety of new services and platforms, some with advertising and some without advertising. The company has conquered the smartphone market thanks to the Android operating system, but it is not content to stop there. Google has made a big push into wearable devices lately, supporting platforms like smart watches and even developing their own concepts like Google Glass. Not limiting themselves to what users keep on their bodies, or close by, Google is also branching out into areas like automobile interfaces, home applianc…

by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
New social app Secret has surfaced in the Google Play store after enjoying a successful start on the iOS platform. The Secret app is built on anonymity as users do not see who posts the “secrets” that are shared via the app. After signing up, during which time uses are asked for their phone number and email address, users are delivered anonymous posts that are supposed to help the sender “Be honest. Be open. Be yourself.” according to the developer. The pool of posts that individuals see is built using the contact info on a user’s phone. Even if a user opts to not provide a phone number, which results in the app not accessing your phone contacts, the email requirement …

by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

We knew Amazon and HBO had inked a deal that would bring HBO content to Amazon’s Prime Instant Video, and that day is finally here. You can finally start streaming full series like The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, and Rome, plus a handful of others, and you’ll get access to some seasons of current shows like True Blood, Boardwalk Empire, and Treme. Miniseries like Band of Brothers and The Pacific are available, and there’s even a few HBO movies, too. Toss in some HBO documentaries and comedy specials and you’ve got a ton of great content to stream through Amazon’s already excellent video service. Unfortunately, you won’t get all of HBO’s current content, and some s…

Review: Borderlands 2 for PS Vita
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
There aren't many games that I've returned to after I've finished them. Borderlands 2 was one of those games. After storming through the campaign on my own when the game first released in 2012, I returned to the world of Pandora late last year to begin anew with a cooperative partner. Even with the plot still fresh in my mind, the limitless array of weaponry and the markedly different character classes give each play through new life. Continue reading... by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Tennis fans might marvel at the quick reaction times of their favorite players, especially since most professional serves for men's tennis average between 120 and 130 miles per hour. Now tennis legend Roger Federer has done a cool new promotion with Google in which he wears Google Glass to give us a first-hand look at what it's like having a ball fly toward you at an insanely fast speed. It's an almost certain bet that Federer will not be allowed to bring Glass with him to Wimbledon next month, but from the footage Google showed it doesn't look as through the headset impeded his vision in any way or distracted him while playing. You can check out the full video of Federer…

Watch 16 minutes of leaked gameplay footage from Watch Dogs on the PS4
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
Watch Dogs is certainly the most anticipated multiplatform release of the month, but with less than a week until the game's release, there's still plenty we don't know about it. Ubisoft revealed last week that the visuals will see a slight uptick on the PS4, but until we see the game in action for ourselves, it's not worth worrying about. For those of you who were waiting for more footage to reach the Web before deciding whether or not to pick up Watch Dogs, you're in luck -- one PS4 owner managed to score a retail copy of the game earlier this week and streamed the game live on Twitch. He was quickly banned, but Dailymotion user LordofDarkness has subsequently posted a 1…

Why Lavabit shut down: Founder explains 38 days of legal hell
by Guest Ben Zigterman- 0 replies

After Edward Snowden’s NSA leaks from last year, rumors circulated that Snowden used Lavabit, which at the time was a hugely popular secure email service. Soon after that, Lavabit founder Ladar Levison wrote that he was forced to decide between being “complicit in crimes against the American people or walk away from nearly ten years of hard work by shutting down Lavabit.” He decided to shut Lavabit down, and he added ominously, “I wish that I could legally share with you the events that led to my decision. I cannot.” Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Google overtakes Apple as world’s most valuable brand
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
Here’s some news to cheer about, Android fanboys. According to a study conducted by Millward Brow, an independent research company, Google experienced a 40 percent increase in brand value between 2013 and 2014, while Apple experienced a 20 percent loss in value. Pretty significant, right? Well, the changes in brand value seem to have put Google on top, moving from the second position, swapping with Apple, which was the previous top dog on the list. You could easily make the argument that the two companies are pretty much nothing alike, and never were. Yes, while both sell phones, tablets, music players and computers, Google also has the added advantage of a bil…

Apple wins patent lawsuit over Samsung in The Netherlands
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
Apple has won a broad injunction over Samsung in The Netherlands. The decision was reached by the District Court of The Hague this morning, and the case has been dragging on for almost 3 years. The case was originally awarded to Apple back in 2012, however a German court ruled in favor of Samsung on the same patent. Samsung contested Apple’s win in The Hague for another year, after which the case was again ruled in Apple’s favor. The patent itself refers to Apple’s simplification of navigating and manipulation of photos, and is known as the “bounce back” patent. Because of how long the case has been dragging on, the products first thought to infringe are now old m…

Project Ara processors to be made by…Toshiba?
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
With Project Ara getting closer to its supposed release in 2015, many are wondering who will supply the parts for the devices. It turns out that the maker of processors for the device will be Toshiba, which is surprising considering the saturation of the market by the like of Qualcomm, MediaTek and Intel. Toshiba will be providing three different processors for Google, for modules and for the phone itself. Reportedly, the partnership between the two companies started back in October 2013, resulting in the creation of chips that can “accurately control the flow of data and electrical signals between the modules and the phone itself.” Ara devices will reportedly com…

Qualcomm reportedly powering wearables this year, could make proprietary processors if market...
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

The Toq smartwatch was released by Qualcomm as a way to show developers what their technology was capable of. It carried a massive $299 price tag. Other than price, the Toq received a fair amount of praise. A new report claims that Qualcomm will be aiming to power other wearables instead of manufacturing their very own. At a press conference this week, Qualcomm CDMA Technologoes Taiwan president Eddie Chang said “This year, you will see wearable devices carrying Qualcomm chips.” While Chang did not give any details, he did say that developing wearable-specific processors are definitely a possibility if the market reaches a certain point in growth. Rather than sending t…

A Dutch team of hackers that calls itself "Doulci" claims to be the first group ever to hack Apple's iCloud system. According to a report from Dutch news organization De Telegraaf, the hackers purchase stolen phones that have been locked for between $50 and $150 each. They then use a security vulnerability in order to access Apple's iCloud system and unlock the phones, which are then sold for a large profit. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

The device is an Android-powered PC in a tiny box, and it can be hooked up to a monitor or big-screen TV via a micro HDMI connection. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Watch Gotham fall in the latest Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay trailer
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

We got a pretty good look at Batman: Arkham Knight in the initial cinematic trailer, but if the latest gameplay footage is anything to go by, the final entry in the Arkham series is poised to benefit greatly from its transition to the new generation of consoles. One of the most enticing additions to Arkham Knight is the Batmobile, Batman's trusty tank which also appeared in the very first image of the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie. In the new trailer, we get to see just how versatile the vehicle is as it smashes through traffic, scales the side of a tunnel and launches Batman into the air. Continue reading...
