Image hints at forthcoming HTC One (M8) Prime
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Prolific tipster @evleaks took to Twitter today to post a cryptic message, “Prime: coming soon.” The image to go with the tweet is a tightly zoomed in view of a smartphone camera lens with a contrasting bezel color compared to the rest of the body. Most telling is a second camera lens suggesting the device is an HTC smartphone equipped with their duo camera system. All together, this suggests @evleaks has found a picture or a render of the new HTC One (M8) Prime. Something does not seem quite right about the image though, especially the apparent shadow around the bezel, the prominent @evleaks stamp and the white bands and circle. Given an apparent stampede by the m…

Microsoft, you're killing me. You've just announced what looks like a killer new tablet that you're hyping as "the tablet that can replace your laptop." It looks like a big improvement over the Surface 2 in just about every possible way, from the display quality to the super-thin build. But for some reason, you are still insisting on selling the keyboard cover separately for $130 a pop. To use an old science fiction cliché, this does not compute. Continue reading... Jailbreaks have been hard to come by during the latest round of iOS updates, but it appears that hackers are on to something with iOS 7.1.1. On Monday, we got our first glimpse of an untethered iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak running on both the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5c. Now, thanks to Twitter user @blue9057, we have video proof another private jailbreak running on Apple's flagship iPhone 5s as well. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

GoPro showed us how well defying the smartphone market can work
by Guest Tero Kuittinen- 0 replies

The biggest consumer market trend of the past decade has been how smartphones have suffocated one consumer product category after another. Portable video game consoles, music players, cameras — stand-alone devices have been left reeling by the relentless improvement of smartphone processing power, memory size and camera quality. Global camera sales shrunk by a stunning -40% in 2013. The immensely powerful Nintendo empire is reeling as its cornerstone 3DS handheld franchise has started missing sales targets. iPod sales have dived into terminal decline. Continue reading... by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

Ahead of Microsoft's Surface event on Tuesday, Chitika took a look at some usage statistics in the non-iPad tablet market, and the results for Microsoft's devices were a tad bit worrying. Based on tens of millions of U.S. and Canadian online ad impressions, Chitika found that the Surface and Surface 2 usage share in the tablet market had fallen from 7.5% to 6.7% since February 1st, even excluding iPad usage. Curiously, however, the brand new smartphone vendor apparently does have plans to develop and sell a line of Android-powered smartphones that will be offered alongside its newly acquired Windows Phone lineup from Nokia. New leak suggests the Galaxy Note 4′s display will be Samsung’s most gorgeous yet
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Samsung almost always sets the bar for other companies when it comes to creating gorgeous displays, so it's not surprising that the upcoming Galaxy Note 4's display is shaping up to be its best yet. GSMArena has obtained some leaked specs that purportedly detail the Galaxy Note 4's display and they show the device will feature a 5.7-inch quad-HD display with a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels, which makes it the same size as the Galaxy Note 3's display but at a much higher resolution. Of course, having a high pixel count isn't the only thing that makes a great display but Samsung has shown in the past that its displays are also top-notch when it comes to brightness, col…

Here’s how much the gorgeous Moto 360 smartwatch will cost
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
The Moto 360 is without a doubt one of the most interesting Android smartwatches that will launch this year, thanks to its unusually beautiful design – the device will feature a traditional round watch face rather than a square face like the smartwatches already available in stores or launching soon – but there are no clear details about its launch. Motorola has teased the device on numerous occasions, unveiling only certain details about it. However, it appears that French site Journal du Geek has learned more details surrounding the Moto 360’s price and launch window. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Oh, so you're ending support for Windows XP and you want us to upgrade to Windows 8? Not so fast, says the Chinese government. Reuters reports that China's government has banned Windows 8 from being installed onto its computers for reasons that aren't quite clear but that seemingly relate to the end of support for Windows XP, which research firm Canalys says makes up 50% of China's desktop market. Google officially jumps on the Instagram bandwagon
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

Google has officially activated an Instagram account, uploading a single clip of their interactive Rubik’s Cube that’s been plastered on their homepage today. Not anything extremely interesting, but hey, at least if you’ve got an Instagram account, you can sprinkle some Google (and probably Android) into your news feed. Google has some kind of presence on nearly every other social media site by now, so this was definitely going to happen sooner or later, anyway. Anybody else think this move is going to make Google+ a little jealous? source: Instagram Come comment on this article: Google officially jumps on the Instagram bandwagon Visit TalkAndroid f…

by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies

With AT&T on the brinks of releasing their new HD Voice system which is supposed to vastly improve call quality, today the company announced that they are finally getting the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, which is to be the first AT&T phone to support the new service. AT&T announced that they would be releasing their variant of the Galaxy S4 mini way back in October, but while Sprint and Verizon went ahead and released the device, AT&T held off until now. The move is a little unexpected, especially because of the fact that the Galaxy S5 mini is likely to be released in the near future. Source: AT&T Come comment on this article: AT&T gets Samsu…

HTC teases something with “beautiful curves” that is coming soon
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

This will get you thinking. This evening, HTC decided to tease something with “beautiful curves.” In addition to saying that this curvy mystery is coming soon, they attached the image above. It shows a curving graphic alongside a quote from novelist Edward George Bulwer-Lytton. The quote says “In life, as in art, the beautiful moves in curves.” HTC is very much invested in design language here by emphasizing the curves. Now the fun part. What is this curvy mystery? Initially, I was thinking that this could be an Android Wear-powered smartwatch. But then I thought about it some more and it seems like a tablet would be a better fit. If HTC is indeed going to be manufac…

We all know how hard it is to hand over your brand new tablet to your wide-eyed kid or younger sibling, but when we do, why not make sure there are age-appropriate applications on the device? Whether you’re looking for an enjoyable experience learning to read or an exciting game to teach your kids math, these apps open up a new world of learning through technology. You might be helping Google make a fortune without even knowing it
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

A lot of you out there are helping Google rake in cash without even realizing it. Econsultancy draws our attention to a new study from UX firm Bunnyfoot that shows only 36% of users understand that Google Adwords are actually paid advertisements and not organic search results, even though Google clearly marks them as ads. This is actually an improvement from last year, when Bunnyfoot found that 81% of Google users clicked on Google Adwords and fully 41% of all users didn't know that they were ads. While Google obviously doesn't mind that so many people are unwittingly giving ads their clicks, it also means that the company is in a somewhat precarious position: If more and…

Right now when you log into Netflix, you're presented with a sea of titles that can be overwhelming if you don't know what you're looking for. However, in the future Netflix plans to pare back on the number of titles you'll see on your post-login screen to just three or four personal recommendations that it thinks will be surefire hits based on things you've watched in the past. A group of MIT and Harvard students is creating the most secure email system ever
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Ever since Lavabit shut itself down last year, several different new alternatives have been proposed for people who want a truly secure email system that can't be accessed by government agencies such as the NSA. BostInno reports that a team of students from Harvard and MIT are banding together to create a new email service called ProtonMail that they say will be more secure than Lavabit and won't be hackable by the NSA or other spy agencies. Not only does this new email service offer end-to-end encryption but it's also based in Switzerland, where it won't have to comply with American courts' demands to hand over user data. The service launched as a public beta last week a…

Massive survey finds Comcast and TWC are the two most hated companies in America – period
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

The only consumer survey that matters has found that among all businesses across every industry, Comcast and Time Warner Cable are the two most hated companies in America. The American Customer Satisfaction Index, which is put out quarterly by the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and is considered the most comprehensive customer satisfaction survey in the United States, has just come out with a new survey showing once again that Comcast and TWC have the lowest customer satisfaction ratings of any ISPs in the United States. And that's not even the worst news for the two companies in the latest survey. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Repor…

Motorola’s Moto E is not only extremely affordable but it’s also buttery smooth — and now, we can add an unlocked bootloader to the long list of pros for this device. Because it’s so cheap, developers are grabbing up the phone in droves. And good news for them, Motorola today added the device (all US, Canada, Europe and Latin American variants) to its Bootloader Unlock program. This means that we can expect to see several different ROMs and root-access applications for the phone, including CM11 and Paranoid Android.
