WARNING: Don’t waste your money on knockoff Lightning cables for the iPhone and iPad
by Guest Darren Murph- 0 replies
When Apple ushered in the Lightning cable with the iPhone 5, millions of folks groaned collectively. A new connector means new accessories and outdated doodads, but in this particular example, it also represented a serious shot against piracy. As it turns out, Apple detests knockoffs… even when it comes to cabling. So, with Lightning, the company included a chip inside of each plug that would be next to impossible to reverse engineer and ape. Moreover, Apple added yet another expense to reproducing the cable, which would no doubt cut into the profit margins for would-be knockoff artists. Today, a three meter Lightning cable from Apple is priced at $20. Which, by all me…

Apple recently hired a new retail boss in former Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts and 9to5Mac's sources say that she's planning a big, much-needed shakeup to Apple's retail operation. The biggest change that Ahrendts seems intent on making is adding more mobile payment integration into Apple's retail stores to blur "the lines between Apple’s online and physical stores in order to improve the overall experience for Apple customers," 9to5Mac says. This comes as Apple is developing its own comprehensive mobile payments platform aimed at making it easier for iPhone and iPad owners to buy things online, most likely with the help of biometric sensors such as the iPhone 5s's fingerp…

by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Big changes are coming to the Xbox One with surprising speed right now. First, Microsoft caved last week and announced that it would begin selling the Xbox One without a bundled Kinect sensor for $399.99, matching the price of Sony's PlayStation 4 video game console. Now, a new leak suggests that another sought-after change to the Xbox One could be coming very soon. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Is this the real reason Apple wants to buy Beats?
by Guest Ben Zigterman- 0 replies
Two weeks ago, news broke that Apple was about to purchase Beats Technology for $3.2 billion. The deal, which has apparently been delayed, has confused industry experts, with some viewing it as a sign of Apple’s lack of direction without Steve Jobs and others calling it Apple’s “best idea since the iPad.” Most believe Apple is buying Beats mostly for its music streaming service, rather than for its headphones. If that is the case, Reuters published a piece today showing why this would make sense, and why the record labels are rooting for Apple to succeed in music streaming. Continue reading... Moto X+1, codenamed Victara, to be on the four major carriers in the U.S.
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
No one should be surprised that the upcoming Motorola Moto X+1 will be carried by Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint in the United States. Last year, Motorola made sure the Moto X was available on each of these carriers in addition to some smaller ones. But the Moto X+1 also popped up on Motorola’s very own site a few times already. So aside from learning once again that the United States’ largest carriers would be picking up the handset, we have learned its codename: Victara. What do you think Victara stands for, if anything? by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Most independent studies have shown that Verizon has the strongest overall mobile voice and data network and now the carrier is poised to make it better than ever. Verizon on Monday announced that it's started rolling out its XLTE network upgrade that promises to deliver not only faster peak download speeds but also twice the available bandwidth for users. This means that you'll be much more likely to get a decent mobile data connection even in crowded areas where lots of people are trying to upload and download data at the same time. EVERYONE needs to know this: How to charge your iPhone or Android phone as quickly as possible...
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
There's a reason that battery life has become the biggest determining factor for consumers looking to purchase a new smartphone: battery technology continues to progress far slower than other mobile tech. Companies developing new, more efficient batteries simply cannot keep up with the higher-resolution displays and other power-hungry technologies smartphone makers are stuffing into iPhones, Android phones and other handsets. As a result, vendors have been forced to create extreme power-saving modes that cut off most of a device's functionality in order to extend battery life when the charge gets dangerously low. It will likely be quite some time before we see any huge…

A new report out of Taiwan says that Apple has already chosen display suppliers for the iPhone 6, with LG and Japan Display being the primary suppliers. In addition to those two companies, Innolux has apparently also been contracted to provide 4.7-inch iPhone 6 screens, UDN says, in order for Apple to meet the expected increased iPhone 6 demand, while Samsung and Sharp have been both rejected. Apple is buying Beats Electronics. Maybe. Some day. News of the deal broke nearly two weeks ago and at that time, an announcement was supposedly imminent. Then a video of Dr. Dre's drunken celebration seemingly confirmed the news alongside additional reports from several big papers. But Apple and Beats have yet to make any announcement. How to avoid the annoying SMS bug plaguing people who switch from iPhone to Android
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/1ec8d4f2f0a21117f7ac3889d83acd65.jpg Thanks to an ongoing issue with the way Apple built its iMessage platform, users who switch away from an iPhone to an Android phone or any other cell phone are faced with a huge problem: once they bail on the iPhone, they often can't receive text messages from contacts who are still using iPhones. This is because Apple's system still sees them as iMessage users, and it tries to deliver messages sent using Apple's Messages app as iMessages. To make matters even worse, the iPhone users who send those messages see their status as "delivered" even though they are not being received. Thankfull…

by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies

Samsung is looking to add biometric functions to its mobile security system, Knox and in doing so expanding these sensors to budget phones as well. “We’re looking at various types of biometric [mechanisms] and one of things that everybody is looking at is iris detection,” Rhee In-jong, Samsung’s senior vice president, told analysts and investors in Hong Kong. Rhee is the lead in the development of the Knox software. Samsung’s first phone to use a fingerprint scanner is the Galaxy S 5 and currently uses the scanner for biometric authorization and to make authenticate PayPal purchases, among other things. Samsung hopes to win over more corporate clients as its…

According to Korea Times, the legal battle between the tech giants of Apple and Samsung may be coming to an end. Of course we’ve seen that before, only to also watch it crash and burn, but according to the Korean news publication, both companies have resumed talks to settle patent disputes out of court and if all goes according to plan, will end the multi-year battle between the two companies as early as the end of summer. Both are discussing royalty payments and the possibility of cross-licensing to avoid future court battles. This news does come of last week’s announcement that Apple would be dropping patent disputes with both Motorola and Google. Should the two c…

T-Mobile’s HTC One M8 gets Extreme Power Saving Mode in latest update
by Guest Aditya Thawardas- 0 replies

The T-Mobile variant of the HTC One M8 has received an update today that enables Extreme Power Saving Mode. The feature was announced when the device launched, but had to be approved by carriers before being pushed out to devices. For those unfamiliar, Extreme Power Saving Mode begins in at a default of 10% battery remaining. It throttles back the CPU, dials down screen brightness, turns off haptic feedback, switches off data when the screen is off, and only allows ‘essential’ apps (e.g. phone, messaging, mail, calendar, and calculator) to run. The update is a big 229 MB and also improves battery life and Wi-Fi performance. Source: Android Central Come comm…

Google exploring purchase of video game streaming service Twitch
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

Forget a music streaming service, YouTube may soon have control of Twitch. Google has entered into discussions with the video game streaming service, according to Variety. The purchase would be worth more than $1 billion and has the possibility of surpassing YouTube’s purchase of $1.65 billion in 2006 by Google. If Twitch is indeed acquired, The Wall Street Journal notes talks are preliminary, no one should be very surprised. There are plenty of gamers that record and broadcast content to be uploaded to YouTube. In fact, many gamers have become famous in large part to YouTube’s live-streaming feature. Twitch, on the other hand, is gaining even more ground due to its…
