Fleksy on Thursday announced that its Android keyboard app has broken the Guinness World Record for fastest testing, a feature Microsoft has recently bragged with during its Windows Phone 8.1 unveiling event. Microsoft said that using its Windows Phone WordFlow tech a user was able to beat the old record of 20.53 seconds to type a 126-letter sentence by more than two seconds (18.44 seconds). Now Fleksy says it has bested Microsoft by 0.25 seconds. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

The confluence of two huge events in the world of tech — the Comcast-TWC merger and the potential death of net neutrality — might have even wider reaching effects than expected for consumers. Speaking with investors on Wednesday, Comcast Executive VP David Cohen announced that the company is expected to implement a "usage-based billing" system within the next five years, effectively capping data usage for subscribers. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/1b938aaa5eddf61a4a16b00506118deb.jpg If there's one thing Comcast loves doing, it's figuring out how to grab even more money from its subscribers. But Comcast has a problem: More and more customers are choosing to reject its beloved bundles and only subscribe to it for Internet services so they can watch their favorite shows through Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and other online streaming services. To squeeze more money from these rascally cord cutters, Comcast has now said that it plans to implement bandwidth caps that will slap its users with fees if they watch too many episodes of House of Cards over its network. Xiaomi’s high-res MiPad unveiled, features first-ever Nvidia Tegra K1 chip
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
Xiaomi now has a really nice tablet on the market, and it’s not just because of its awesome price. Designed (and named) similarly to the iPad, the MiPad has a 7.9-inch display with 2048 x 1536 pixels (324 ppi). But the really nice news here is that it’s the first device to feature Nvidia’s Tegra K1 chip, clocked at 2.2 GHz, along with a 192-core Kepler GPU. RAM is set at 2GB, and you’ll have two internal storage options, 16 or 64 GB respectively, with a microSD slot that can handle up to 128 GB of expanded storage. The rear camera is an 8MP Sony camera, and a 5MP camera in the front. The battery is pretty big — it’s a 6700 mAh LG battery. Stereo speakers are on the …

HTC One Mini 2 officially announced
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
HTC finally took the wraps off of the One Mini 2, which is essentially a mini version of the One (M8). The One Mini 2 does sacrifice in specs, but it doesn’t in materials. It sports the same metal design and BoomSound speakers as the HTC One (M8), but it’s obviously a little smaller and you won’t get an UltraPixel rear camera nor will you get the Duo Camera effects. It measures 137 x 65 x 10.6mm, and is a little thicker than the original HTC One Mini. It will be available in Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver and Amber Gold colors. Hit the break for the full specs. 4.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display with 326 ppi 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Adreno…

by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies

Xiaomi has officially announced a new television, the MI TV 2, after releasing its first smart TV last fall. This one proves to be a bit bigger (49 inches), and a really nice new feature — a 4K display — for only CN¥3,999 (equivalent to $640). Android is built into the TV (MIUI TV skin) and side loading for other TV apps is simple. The 4K panel has 3D capabilities with a 6.2mm aluminum bezel. The processor is a quad-core MediaTek MStar 6A918 chip (clocked at 1.45 GHz), 2GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and a microSD slot that can support up to 64GB. We have some information today regarding the Samsung SM-N910 (possibly a variant for the Galaxy Note 4, as the Galaxy Note 4 is the SM-N900). We were already pretty sure that the phone would be coming to AT&T, but now we know it’ll be coming to Sprint, US Cellular, Verizon, T-Mobile and Bell Canada. All carriers should have the 32GB capacity available at launch. Stay tuned, as there’s certainly more to come. This is the most ingenious way to protest the FCC’s net neutrality plans
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Here's an absolutely brilliant way to get people to flood the Federal Communications Commission's phone lines with angry complaints. Ars Technica reports that venture capitalist Brad Feld has created a new campaign called Stop The Slow Lane that will let you add a "slow lane" widget to your website that will intentionally slow your pages' load times and then tell users to complain to the FCC about it while they wait. You can find code for embedding the widget over at GitHub, although you'd better act quickly to get it up since the FCC is actually scheduled to vote on its net neutrality plan later on Thursday. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/47c1ce78cd86aa7dd135861de3db4bda.jpg As smartphones become more and more powerful, they also require more and more battery life. This is one reason why smartphone buyers now cite battery life as the most important thing they look for in a smartphone, even over ease of use and operating system. And now a new app launched on the Google Play store this week might help you get the very most out of your smartphone's battery so you don't have to spend money on an external battery pack. OnePlus CEO Peter Lau explains how the One costs just $299
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
The OnePlus One costs just $299 without a contract. At that price, it is still a handset with respectable specifications. So how can OnePlus do such a thing? It is quite simple. The amount of intermediaries is so small for the company. They go right to the consumer. OnePlus CEO Peter Lau says that “Rather than put money towards a large marketing budget, we are focusing on online marketing and community interaction.” With this, the OnePlus One is available just through them and not another retailer. So no additional cost has to be past on. Do you plan on buying a OnePlus One? Source: TechRadar Come comment on this article: OnePlus CEO Peter Lau explains how t…

Samsung Galaxy Tab S series could be unveiled next month
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Earlier today the Wall Street Journal reported that according to JK Shin, the Galaxy S 5 is doing quite well. Samsung has sold 11 million units to date. However, that bigger news might be the fact that the Galaxy Tab S could be announced next month. At the very end of the article, it was reported that Samsung is “planning to launch a new line of tablets for the first time in New York on June 12 at Madison Square Garden.” Madison Square Garden does seem like an interesting location since it holds nearly 20,000 people. This new line of tablets has to be the often leaked Galaxy Tab S series, which will feature AMOLED displays. At the same time as this report, Hi-…

Flappy Bird will return to the Play Store in August
by Guest Aditya Thawardas- 0 replies

Flappy Bird had a short life in the Play Store before developer Dung Nguyen took it down in February for it being “too popular,” but it’s making a return. Nguyen told CNBC today that the game will return to iOS’s App Store and Google’s Play Store in August with a few changes, like multiplayer mode and being less addictive. Flappy Bird became a cultural phenomenon a few months ago when it was in its prime, before many replicas popped up. It’s a fair question to ask whether the game will be as popular after so many months. by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Initially conceived for the 7 Day First Person Shooter challenge last August, Superhot quickly became an addictive online FPS – it can still be played in a browser – and its creators now want to turn it into a full-fledged game. The Superhot team needs $100,000 to take the game to the next level, and with 30 days to go in its Kickstarter campaign it has already topped $15,000 in pledges. Continue reading... Watch Dogs will run at 900p resolution on PS4, 792p on Xbox One
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

Watch Dogs came out of nowhere at E3 2012, wowing audiences by showcasing a new open world adventure that would help define the hype for the next generation of consoles. After an unfortunate delay that pushed the game into 2014, the release of Watch Dogs is finally in sight. Unfortunately, the adventure will be slightly downgraded from full HD as Ubisoft announced on its blog on Tuesday that Watch Dogs will run at 900p on the PlayStation 4 and an even lower 792p on the Xbox One. All proper sci-fi nerds have long dreamed of being able to take a trip in the Holodeck, a virtual reality chamber located on Star Trek's USS Enterprise where you can simulate any time, place and situation you want to be in. Oliver Kreylos, a computer science professor and researcher at the University of California, Davis, has come the closest we've seen yet to creating a working Holodeck and he's done it using an Oculus Rift virtual reality headset and three Kinect sensors from a previous-generation Xbox. Hands on: HTC unveils the all new HTC One mini 2
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/46e71abe89f13ebadfd1530bc1fa1231.jpg The comeback trail is long, winding and almost entirely uphill. It is not impossible to trek — just ask Apple, which battled back from the brink of bankruptcy to become the most valuable technology company on the planet. It certainly isn't an easy hike though, and it takes determination, smart marketing and great products. The HTC One (M8) is certainly a solid start, but it will take much more than one Android phone to put HTC back on the right path... even if it is the best Android phone in the world. So on Thursday, HTC announced its second new hero phone of 2014: The HTC One mini 2. …

Internet service may soon cost more regardless of FCC’s net neutrality plans
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Net neutrality is obviously a very hot issue right now. Legions of web users have taken to Reddit, Twitter, Facebook and elsewhere to voice their concerns about the FCC's revised proposal, which seems to be designed specifically to allow Internet service providers to charge more to big companies looking for faster connections to end users. FCC chairman Tom Wheeler reportedly plans to further revise the commission's most recent proposal but regardless of his plans, one industry watcher believes broadband service is about to get even more expensive for Internet users in the United States.
