Unlucky OnePlus One fan posts the saddest unboxing video of all-time
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
The OnePlus One is one of the most buzzed-about under-the-radar phones released so far this year and has even inspired some Android fans to post videos of themselves smashing their old phones in anticipation of getting one. However, a newly posted unboxing video shows why smashing your smartphone before you get your copy of the OnePlus One is a truly foolish decision. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Here’s the best way to ensure that your Gmail account isn’t hacked
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

Following the outbreak of Heartbleed, Internet users are more wary than ever of potential exploits and hacks, which makes the timing of Google's latest security initiative pretty much perfect. Google has begun its implementation of an automatic two-step authentication process for users of Google Apps services, requiring anyone attempting to access an account to input both the password and a unique code sent to a mobile device. Google has had dual-factor authentication for some time, but the new Login Challenge will provide an extra layer of safety. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

The 5 Best Android music player apps [May 2014]
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Last year we covered some of the best apps available on the Play Store for playing your locally stored tunes, and even though a ton of music listening has gone in the streaming direction, many people still prefer keeping music on their phone or tablet. If you’re dealing with low monthly data caps or you’re going somewhere without an internet connection, solid music players are still fantastic to have. We figured now would be a good time to update our previous guide with some newer apps along with updated info on the apps that made it over to this year’s list. Hit the break to get started. Poweramp made our list of music players last time around, and it’s only …

HTC One Remix to land on Verizon soon
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Yes, but what the hell is it? Unfortunately, we have nothing else to go by but the name. We know HTC is working on Mini and Prime versions of the One (M8), but I don’t think it’s either device. “Remix” seems to indicate something music or sound related, and with the recent release of the HTC One (M8) Harman Kardon Edition for Sprint, I am thinking the “Remix” will be something similar. What is most interesting is the fact that “(M8)” isn’t in the title, which makes me wonder if it has nothing to do with the M8 at all. I guess we will have to wait and see, but more more importantly, if you were just about to pull the trigger on a shiny new HTC One (M8), does this n…

Amazon makes Moto G LTE available via pre-order
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
Now that the Moto G LTE has been officially unveiled by Motorola, Amazon has begun accepting pre-orders for the device after making an appearance on its website just a few days ago. It’s seriously an awesome deal for only $220 off-contract. The only real thing that was holding me back from recommending the original Moto G to friends and family looking for a cheap, reliable but fast device was its lack of LTE. Now, that won’t be a problem. The device will be available everywhere on June 3 for most carriers around the world — just check with yours before you go ahead and buy, if you’re not sure. Sony expects to ship 50m Xperia units in 2014, ships 8.8 million in last quarter
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
Sony has announced its fiscal year 2013 results, including the figures for the last quarter. During this period, Sony reports sales of $74.5 billion and operating income of $257 million, which was largely due to PlayStation 4 sales. In the last quarter alone, Sony missed its smartphone forecast by almost a million devices. The forecast was for 9.7 million Xperia units to sell during the 4th quarter, but the final result was 8.8 million units. Despite these results, Sony does expect to see growth during this year, with a forecast of 50 million devices. This would be a growth of 28%, which seems like a lot but is definitely achievable. New versions of Samsung’s Galaxy S5 look even more like band-aids

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/2a58c37b9a439082b0bbec0da35541b8.jpg Samsung has already started its usual color spamming for flagship devices by preparing the launch of pink versions of the Galaxy S5 in Japan. So far, the Galaxy S5 has been available only in four colors, including white, black, gold and blue, but it’s likely the giant Android handset maker will release more color options in the future, just as it did with the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S3 in previous years following their respective launches. Samsung offers ‘deep apology’ for diseases and deaths caused by its factories

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/13c4f938fe91c5620dae4b4e720781e3.jpg After a recent string of incidents, Samsung has finally acknowledged the potentially dangerous working conditions at its factories and the tragedies that have befallen several of its workers over the years. Back in 2010, it was reported that more than 20 employees at Samsung's chipmaking facilities had been diagnosed with forms of cancer during their time on the job, eventually resulting in the deaths of several of the afflicted. Yonhap News reports that Samsung officially apologized for the incidents this week, promising compensation for the families who have suffered losses in the past. …

HTC One M8 Mini to leave out key Sense 6 features including Zoe, Pan 360, Motion Launch and...
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
We’ve heard plenty already about HTC’s upcoming One M8 Mini, the little brother to its latest flagship device. But today we’re hearing a bit more, and it isn’t the most encouraging news. It looks as though the phone will be sold without some of Sense 6′s most useful features, including Zoe, Fitbit, Motion Launch, and Pan 360 photos. The reason for these features being left out can be pointed directly to the lack of the Snapdragon 801 processor and the duo camera, both featured on the One M8. It does seem a bit odd, though, that Pan 360 and Zoe are being left out, because HTC has included the features on past devices without a duo camera or the Snapdragon 801. It’s a…

Samsung offering Galaxy S 5 in two pink colors in Japan
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies

Samsung is making the Galaxy S5 widely available all over the world, and will be treating the women in Japan with two new shades of pink for the device. The colors include “Soft Metallic Pink” and “Champagne Pink.” The company previously offered a rose-colored Galaxy Note II in Taiwan for a Valentine’s Day special. If you’re looking to pick one up, it looks like you’ll have to order it overseas. Google patent describes integration between Google+ and wireless carriers
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
A new patent application with the USPTO titled Integration of Carriers with Social Networks describes how a “circle-based” social network could interface with wireless carriers to make it easier for people to connect. The description in the patent application indicates the social network could scan contact information that a user has connected to their account, like contacts in Google+, and cross-reference this with information in a wireless carriers database. If a match is discovered the social network could automatically create a group (or circle) that includes those matches. For example, if a user bought a new phone and service from Sprint, upon logging in to their Goo…

LG G3 press renders show up giving excellent look at new device
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
As expected, leaked images related to the LG G3, scheduled to be officially announced on May 27th, continue to surface on a regular basis. The latest set of images is a nice one compared to some of what we have seen as they are press renders of the LG G3. This means they have pretty good clarity and detail. Notably, we get a really good look at the face of the device and what the bezels should look like. LG has made a mark as having thin bezels thanks to the LG G2, so many are interested to see what the size of the LG G3 will be like despite the 5.5-inch screen. The images show the side bezels are quite thin and the top and bottom bezels are minimal. LG has been able t…

Google Glass v2.0 already in the works
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
With Google Glass finally being released to the public in an “open beta”, it seems that the search giant is already working on a second generation of the device. The reports come in from Kong Wenjun of Crystal Optech, who claims that his company has already provided samples to Google’s R&D division. He also says that Google has certified LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) technology. In fact, Google decided to refrain from establishing a direct relationship with the company in order to prevent the public from finding out about Google’s plans. Other details about the second generation of Glass are unknown, but it’s likely that we won’t officially hear anything fo…

This is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Samsung is getting ready to announce yet another family of tablets, following the Pro and Tab 4 models released earlier this year, the Galaxy Tab S, a line of tablets that was prominently featured in recent reports and leaks. While Samsung is yet to confirm the Galaxy Tab S tablets – expected to arrive in 10.5-inch and 8.5-inch flavors – a series of leaked images have already hit the web. Furthermore, the FCC has also published images showing the tablet, well ahead of its proper announcement. In documentation for the SM-T800, which is what the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is known as, the FCC has shown the device from various angles. The SM-T800 is expected to be the Wi-Fi-only v…

Samsung’s next phablet may arrive with unexpected company
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Samsung will reportedly launch its own version of Google Glass this fall, maybe right alongside the new Galaxy Note 4 handset that should be unveiled at IFA 2014 in Berlin, Germany. Business Korea has learned from a Samsung associate that the Gear Glass will also debut at IFA, a show that Samsung has used so far for new Galaxy Note announcements. Interestingly though, last year Samsung announced its first smartwatch ever, the Galaxy Gear, together with the Galaxy Note 3. “We rolled out the smartwatch first, and have secured a considerable amount of smart glass-related technology and patents,” an unnamed Samsung associate said. “Following the roll out of our smart watch…

iPhone 6 release time frame FINALLY revealed!
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

The cycle of rumors ahead of Apple’s next-generation iPhone 6 launch this year is staying true to form. First, people assume that the new iPhone’s release will take place in the early fall, around the same time that last year’s model debuted. Then reports pop up to suggest that Apple’s next-gen smartphone will actually launch sooner than expected during the early summer months. Next, rumors slowly push the expected launch date back until we’re right back where we started. It happened in 2012, it happened last year, and it is happening again this year. Following rumors suggesting the iPhone 6 would launch in July and then August, a new report from German Apple blog i…

Another huge reason for cable companies to fear cord cutters
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
Pay TV companies hate cord cutters. The logic behind that hatred seems fairly obvious: pay TV packages are huge revenue generators for these giant companies, and ditching them leads to lost revenue. But there’s another reason pay TV giants like Comcast and Time Warner Cable are afraid of the cord cutting movement. Cord cutters don’t just lead to lost revenue, they also cost companies more money than average subscribers. According to a new report from broadband service provider Sandvine, cord cutters use much more broadband data than Internet subscribers who also pay for a TV package. This makes sense, of course, since cord cutters with no TV package stream video over t…

iPHONE 6 LEAK: Solid source claims to reveal exact resolution of iPhone 6 display
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
Apple is all but confirmed to be launching two new iPhone models in 2014. The first will reportedly be an iPhone 6 with a new 4.7-inch display and the second is expected to be a larger iPhone phablet with a 5.5-inch screen. A few reports from solid sources have suggested as much, but the deal was seemingly sealed in early April when KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued his note on the matter. Interestingly, however, it looks like one of the key details Kuo reported was incorrect. According to Kuo, who is easily among the best in the business when it comes to reporting accurate information about unreleased Apple products, Apple’s iPhone 6 was expected to feature a…

Hands on with the Moto E
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
The Moto G is the best selling smartphone in Motorola’s history, and with good reason. It made the smartphone more affordable to more people. Motorola has now taken it a step further with the introduction of the Moto E. Simply put, it’s made to last and priced for all. Priced at $129 / £89 off contract and unlocked, Motorola thinks this is the beginning of the end for flip phones and feature phones. I will be spending a lot more time with it over the coming week, but my initial impression is this is one solid phone for the money. It feels very much like a Moto G, only smaller. It certainly isn’t the most powerful phone in the world, but it’s buttery smooth. Hit the …
