Samsung will release tablets that are even more gigantic
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Even though the jury is still out on whether Samsung’s extra-large tablets are popular with consumers – the 12.2-inch Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 models were unveiled only a few months ago, at CES 2014– the company is working on an even bigger model, GSM Arena reports. Dubbed “Warhol” internally, the T910/T911 is supposed to be a 13.3-inch Android tablet that packs a 2560 x 1600 (WQHD) LCD display with 227 pixel per inch (PPI) pixel density. Other hardware details for the device aren’t available yet, and it’s not clear when the tablet will be released. However, it looks like the 13.3-inch Samsung device will come both in Wi-Fi-only and 3G/4G options…

New cheaper 8GB iPhone 5c headed to India to replace iPhone 4
by Guest Ben Zigterman- 0 replies
Apple is about to expand the availability of the new 8GB version of its iPhone 5c to India, according to a report from BGR sister site BGR India. Apple’s 8GB iPhone 5c debuted less than two months ago and it is currently available only in in Germany, France, the UK, Australia and China. The move has two pretty obvious purposes: To increase sales of the iPhone 5c, whose sales appear to be slow compared to other iPhone models, and to improve iPhone sales in India. Apple CEO Tim Cook has put a lot of focus on India in the past couple of years, and in Apple’s most recent earnings call, he said the efforts are paying off. “The iPhone also continued to perform exceptionally …

Tumblr has lost 7 million visitors since December
by Guest Ben Zigterman- 0 replies
Marissa Mayer has been Yahoo’s CEO for nearly two years and in that time she has revamped many of Yahoo’s websites and apps, and has made some major purchases. Most notably, Yahoo bought Tumblr a little over a year ago for $1.1 billion. Now, however, this purchase isn’t looking so good. According to a ComScore report in the Wall Street Journal, traffic to Tumblr has dropped from a peak of 49 million visitors in December to only 42 million in March. If these numbers are accurate, this loss of 7 million visitors would represent a 15% drop. There’s no obvious reason for this big decline, either: Since the acquisition, Yahoo hasn’t done much to change Tumblr, staying true to …

Leaked pic shows 2014′s best Android phone in blue

Let’s say that you want to buy an HTC One (M8) but you aren’t too keen on the device’s standard silver or grey — well, it looks like you’re going to get another option. @evleaks has just posted a press render of a blue version of HTC’s latest flagship smartphone and as you can see, the device looks pretty sweet with an aqua blue tint.We have no idea when the blue version of the HTC One (M8) will release but @evleaks doesn’t typically acquire press renders unless a device’s launch is imminent, which suggests HTC will release it sooner rather than later. Twitter starting to officially roll out new mute feature
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Twitter was already working on a new mute feature to help users better control what shows up in their timelines and notifications. Today they announced that they are making this feature an official part of the Twitter experience and will be rolling it out to users over the next several weeks. Using the new Mute feature, a user you may be following will no longer appear in your home timeline nor will you receive push or SMS notifications from that user. The muted user will not know that you have them muted and they can still favorite, reply to or retweet your Tweets. To mute another user, you can tap on a tweet from the user you want to mute and access the “More” menu t…

Motorola suggests Moto E will replace flip phones
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
The Motorola Moto E is set to be launched at a press event tomorrow in London. The expectation that the Moto E would be launched at the event was pushed by the fact that the company tweeted #GoodbyeFlipPhone #May13 on Twitter today. It also seems to suggest that the Moto E might actually be targeting developing area. Most people in the developed world ditched flip phones years ago. The suggestion is that the Moto E will be another low cost device, perhaps even cheaper than the Moto G. by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
- 56 views
Samsung and Seagate are teaming up to create a mobile external storage solution to beat all other external storage solutions. The “Samsung Wireless” device is both a WiFi and USB hard drive and portable battery, and it contains a whopping 1.5 terabytes of storage. The device will sell for around $179, and unfortunately there’s no release date yet. Hit the break for more info and the press release! The hard drive is set to for up to five mobile connections at one time via WiFi, and it will also work via the traditional USB 3.0 method. Not only that, but if you have a wireless router with a free USB port, you should be able to use this device in conjunction with it.…

279 million smartphones shipped in Q1 2014, 34% had over 5-inch displays
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Year over year, smartphone shipments saw a decent increase from last year. In Q1 2014, 279.4 million smartphones were shipped globally, which showed a roughly 29% increase from the first quarter of last year. Oddly, though, shipments fell 5% in Q4 from 2013, which is usually a pretty strong quarter for all sales markets, considering all of the holidays in the last three months of the year. Sales were still great, they just aren’t improving like everyone would expect. 81% of the 279.4 million devices shipped were Android devices, unsurprisingly. iOS phones accounted for 16%, and Windows Phones claimed 3%. Samsung was still the global top dog in the smartphone market,…

Motorola Moto G LTE gets listed on Amazon
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

We all know what is coming in less than six hours. The Moto E will be announced by Motorola in London, but there is something else they have ready to go. It now looks like a Moto G with LTE connectivity will be unveiled as well. On Amazon, the Moto G with ‘Universal LTE’ in black and in white is listed next to the usual Moto G. When selecting the new LTE model, the link leads to nowhere. So right now we do not have a price or firm release date. However, we will find out soon enough. New leak shows that the G3 is LG’s most impressive looking smartphone yet
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/b03ac1a802dac38aa4336c03817759fb.jpg Every leak we’ve seen about the LG G3 makes us think it will be a very impressive new device, even in a year that has already seen the release of three heavily hyped Android phones with the Galaxy S5, the HTC One (M8) and the OnePlus One. PhoneArena has received yet another set of leaked LG G3 pictures that show two versions of the device, one with rear casing that’s white and one with a rear casing that’s black. Apparently, the rear casing for the devices will be plastic but LG has given them a brushed effect that will make them look more metallic like HTC’s latest flagship smartphone. L…

Apple will now refund your money twice as fast
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Users who aren’t happy with something they purchased from Apple’s online store should be pleased to hear that Apple has significantly improved refund times in the U.S. to under a week, from the previous 10-day schedule. Reuters reports that, in a bid to convince even more buyers to purchase products directly from its online store rather than from Amazon or Best Buy, Apple is willing to pay more for expedited shipping, in order to return money to customers faster. Apple is apparently using FedEx 2-day service to receive the returned goods from customers in three days. Apple has been using FedEx 2-day in its busy Christmas shopping season, StellaService noted, but it app…

Disappointing iPad sales are just the start of the tablet market’s problems
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
After Apple announced its earnings for the second quarter of 2014, analysts began to question the future growth potential of the iPad. Sales were undoubtedly strong, but in an industry that expects constant improvement, the year-over-year decline was troublesome. Unfortunately, based on a recent research report shared by Business Insider from Morgan Stanley’s Katy Huberty, the relatively poor performance of the iPad is just one indicator signaling significantly slowed growth for the tablet market as a whole in the coming months. “We lower our 2014 tablet growth forecast to 12% from 26% on the back of increasing penetration rates and the lack of new, differentiated prod…

AT&T reportedly nearing $50B DirecTV deal that would make it America’s top pay TV provider
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

If at first you don’t succeed… buy, buy again. According to a report from Bloomberg on Monday afternoon, AT&T is in advanced talks to acquire pay TV giant DirecTV. Multiple unnamed sources tell the news organization that the deal could cost AT&T about $100 per share, or a total of roughly $50 billion. “Under the plan being discussed, DirecTV management will continue to run the company as a unit of AT&T and DirecTV Chief Executive Officer Mike White plans to retire after 2015, said the people, asking not to be named because the information is private,” Bloomberg’s Alex Sherman and Jeffrey McCracken reported. As noted in an earlier report on the possible d…

The iPhone 6 may deliver a devastating blow to iPad sales

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/242d0cc5ba6f86c684d2dc07533077d1.png We’ve known for a while that tablet market growth has not been what people expected. Apple’s double digit sales decline of iPad units in the March quarter was one ill omen. Nevertheless, the new Morgan Stanley report is grim reading: Widely followed analyst Katy Huberty is slashing her 2014 tablet growth projection, all the way from 26% to 12%. It is extremely rare for an important product category to see such a drastic projection cut without an onset of a recession. Back in 2008, handset sales projections were cut steeply as consumer moods from the United States to Asia blackened abruptl…

Google Glass cost per unit might be a little more than $80
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
A teardown from a couple of weeks ago indicated that the cost of Google Glass is significantly lower than the $1,500 price tag. When I say significant, I mean significant. The teardown suggested that it only costs Google $80 for each Explored Edition. Google denied the report, but unsurprisingly, never coughed up a better figure. Now a new a teardown from market research firm IHS gives us another estimate. According to them, Google is right, but the new cost is still significantly (there’s that word again) lower than Google’s asking price. According to IHS, each Google Glass costs Google $132,47 in terms of actual components. Add in an additional $20 for assembly and…

Amazon’s smartphone could utilize Pixart CMOS sensor, manufacturer at least 2 million units
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

A new report today gives new information regarding Amazon’s upcoming smartphone. The handset will reportedly use Pixart’s CMOS image sensor. The same report says that the device will enter mass production at some point this quarter and Amazon is expecting to ship somewhere between 500,000 and 600,000 units this year. Across the handset’s life cycle, though, Amazon is going to produce at least 2 million units. A June announcement is expected to be a precursor for a September release. Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A pops up with 2K display
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
A new product page for a Samsung smartphone we haven’t heard of yet has appeared on the Prime.com.hk shopping website, even providing some specs for the device. While the device is not official yet, it certainly wouldn’t be unexpected for Samsung to launch such a device. In fact, a Galaxy S4 LTE-A device was launched last year. LTE-A referes to devices that can run on an LTE-Advanced network, which is currently available in some parts of the world, but not yet in the US. The product page shows that the device will include 3GB of RAM, a 2560 x 1440-pixel display and a Snapdragon 805 processor. All of these specs are better than the normal Galaxy S5, but Price.com.h…

Galaxy S5 updated, bringing faster camera and improved finger scanning
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies

The first Galaxy S5 update for the month is currently rolling out to the international Galaxy S5, with the update first being rolled out in the UK. The update will bring two major improvements. First of all, the camera now opens much faster, which is a very welcome improvement considering the camera used to be quite laggy. Secondly, the fingerprint scanner is now much more accurate. The device will also now manage RAM better, and is now available over Samsung Kies. The update is also rolling out over the air, but it may take a while before your device gets the update. ARCHOS unveils the ArcBook, and laptop running Android
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies

Looks like HP won’t be the only company to offer a laptop running Android. ARCHOS just unveiled the ArcBook, which looks interesting, but as with many ARCHOS products, the specs aren’t all that thrilling. Let’s start out with the fact that the ArcBook is running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. At this point in the game, there is no excuse for releasing a product with anything other than KitKat. Now on to the hardware….brace yourselves….it features a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) display, 1.2 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, front-facing camera, USB 2.0, full QWERTY keyboard with touchpad, and dual speakers. iPHONE 6 LEAK: Yet another way Apple will reportedly follow rivals' lead with the iPhone 6
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
According to dozens of reports, Apple will finally cave and embrace the trend toward larger smartphones this year. Of course Apple has known for quite some time that consumers want a larger iPhone — in an internal presentation from 2012, Apple admitted that “consumers want what we don’t have” and stated that the bulk of high-end smartphone growth was being enjoyed by phones with big displays. It makes sense, then, that Apple is expected to follow Samsung’s lead and launch a larger iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch screen and an iPhone phablet with a 5.5-inch screen this year. A new report suggests that bigger screens aren’t the only way Apple’s 2014 iPhone models will follow ri…

by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Samsung and Seagate on Monday announced a new external hard drive made specifically for Android mobile device users, which can help them fix any complaints related to bloatware or battery life. The “Samsung Wireless” is a $179 wireless hard drive that offers users access to 1.5TB of data and a backup battery. The device will allow up to five simultaneous Wi-Fi connections and will connect via USB 3.0 to other supported devices. In addition to smartphones and tablets running Android 2.3 or later, the Samsung Wireless also works with Windows and Mac computers, but not iOS devices. Samsung Wireless also packs a battery capable of powering it up for 7 hours, and it can …

Killer Google Now feature reminds you to cancel subscriptions to services you never use
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Google Now is one of Android’s best features and now Android Police has shown us a way to make it even more useful by setting it to remind us to cancel subscriptions to services that we no longer use. So let’s say that you’ve just realized that you want to cancel Netflix the minute you’ve finished watching up every available House of Cards episode but you just keep forgetting to actually go online and do it once you’ve watched the season finale. You can solve this by telling Google Now to “cancel Netflix” and it will give you a card that contains a direct link to the webpage you need to visit to cancel the service. If you don’t want to cancel it right away, you can hav…

This is the incredible material that could make our smartphones paper thin
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

We’ve been hearing about the potential of graphene in the electronics industry for years. Just last month, Samsung announced that it had discovered a new production method that could bring graphene to commercial products even sooner. Taking advantage of the material’s flexibility, Samsung believes that flexible displays will be much more than a gimmick in the coming years. Sadly, we haven’t yet had the chance to see that potential in action as manufacturers continue to research ways to implement the recently discovered material into phones, tablets and other devices. As graphene hasn’t yet been used in commercial applications, most of us are entirely unaware of what th…

One chart shows why Apple is finally going to release a bigger iPhone
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

It’s official: big phones are in. As Android phone makers have continued to pump up the size of their devices in recent years, the response of consumers has been resoundingly positive. According to research firm Canalys, over one-third, or 34%, of smartphones shipped in the first quarter of 2014 featured displays of 5 inches or larger. These figures represent a 369% increase in shipments — an even greater rate of growth than the smartphone market as a whole. “This is still a market segment led by Samsung, but the trend is unmistakably toward larger-screen handsets at the high end of the market,” said Canalys Analyst Jessica Kwee. “It held a 44% share of devices with di…

LG announces tablets for every taste, doesn’t really say anything about them
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

LG on Monday took the wraps of new G Pad tablets, devices that will come in a variety of sizes and will compete directly against Samsung’s similarly sized tablets, but not only. But strangely enough, the company did not reveal that many details about the new products, when it comes to actual specifications. “Customers tell us that they want a wider range of devices that offer sizable screens without compromising portability,” LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company president and CEO Jong-seok Park said. “Unlike smartphones, tablets are not one size fits all. So we designed the G Pad Series for a diverse target audience, some who prioritize portability while others…
