Don’t expect a handheld Xbox to compete with Vita, 3DS anytime soon
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

Microsoft's Phil Spencer has always been a man of the people, and even in his new role as head of the Xbox division, he still takes time to answer questions from the community on Twitter. In his latest flurry of answers, Spencer confirmed that new IP and new sequels will be announced at E3 and he revealed that Cortana was almost brought on as the announcer for the show. Another interesting topic broached by the community was the potential existence of a portable console from Microsoft to rival the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS. Continue reading... Sony has figured out how to cram 185TB of data onto a single cassette tape
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
It turns out that audio cassette taps might be the wave of the future after all, at least when it comes to data storage. Forbes reports that Sony has figured out how to cram a whopping 185TB of data onto a single cassette tape using technology called sputter deposition that Forbes says "involves layers of magnetic crystals firing argon ions at a polymer film substrate." To get an idea of just how amazing this is, consider that a typical Blu-ray disc holds around 50GB of data, which means that Sony's new storage cassette can hold somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,700 Blu-ray films. Sony says that it's working on ways to make magnetic tape used in cassettes a practical tec…

Be careful what you send through email on iOS 7
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
You might want to hold off on sending sensitive attachments through your iPhone or iPad if it runs on iOS 7 or higher. 9to5Mac draws our attention to a recent post from German security researcher Andreas Kurtz, who claims that encryption for email attachments has been disabled on iOS versions 7 and higher, even the recently released iOS 7.1.1 that was issued specifically to fix security flaws. Kurtz says that he reported the problem to Apple, which supposedly acknowledged it but didn't give a timeline for when a fix would be released. As 9to5Mac says, this is obviously a potential problem because Apple touts iOS 7 as providing encryption for email attachments and many use…

Apple shares surge past $600 for the first time since 2012
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
It's amazing what a strong earnings report and a 7-for-1 stock split will do for your company's share price. Apple shares surged past the $600 mark on Monday and closed at $600.96 each, which is the highest they've been since November 2012. Apple's stock value had peaked at around $700 in September 2012 before falling all the way down to under $400 in April 2013. However, the company's better-than-expected iPhone sales in its latest quarterly earnings report coupled with news that it will enact a 7-for-1 stock split in early June have helped reignite demand for Apple's stock. Investors may also be feeling bullish at the sales prospects of the iPhone 6, which will finally …

Why Apple’s iWatch might be much more ambitious than you think
by Guest Tero Kuittinen- 0 replies
As ZDNet reports, some recent LinkedIn profile updates indicate that Apple has hired biomedical engineers from companies including Vital Connect, Sano Intelligence, O2 Medtech and Masimo. These companies manufacture devices that monitor respiratory functions, heart rate and body temperature. What might the biomedical monitoring functions of iWatch mean for the regular consumer? Many of the companies Apple seems to be hiring from have far broader and deeper goals than telling people what their heart rate is. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

How to use (or remove) My Magazine on the Galaxy S 5
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
My Magazine was first introduced on the Galaxy Note 3, and it also made its way onto the Galaxy TabPRO series of tablets. It’s no surprise that it found its way onto the Galaxy S 5, but the implementation is a little different. Just like HTC’s BlinkFeed, it now resides on the leftmost home screen. However, My Magazine is really only a gateway into Flipboard whereas BlinkFeed was built from the ground up. My Magazine is more powerful to an extent, but only once you dive deeper into the app (Flipboard). BlinkFeed provides more information from the home screen, which is really what you want. With My Magazine, you have to tap a few more times to get to the stories, but it …

Amazon introduces #AmazonCart to add items to shopping cart from Twitter
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
Today, Amazon introduced a new shopping feature which will allow users to add items to their carts directly from Twitter, by simply adding “#AmazonCart” to the end of a tweet. Users have to sync their Amazon and Twitter accounts (through Amazon’s social settings), and will then be able to reply “#AmazonCart” to any tweet that has an Amazon product link in it. Of course simply sending the tweet won’t close the sale for Amazon — the tweet only adds the item to your shopping cart. Check out Amazon’s promotional video for the feature after the break below. Pananoid Android’s Peek function now available as standalone APK
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Back in March, Paranoid Android added a new feature called Peek, which functions much like Active Notifications on a Moto X, to their custom ROM. Since installation of a custom ROM may be more than what some users are willing to undertake, computer science student Zhe Lu decided to break the Peek app away from the rest of the ROM and convert it into a standalone APK that could be installed on any device running at least Android 4.4.2. Lu is still testing the APK, especially for compatibility with a variety of devices. If you want to give it a try on your smartphone or other Android device, just download the APK using the link below. Make sure you have your device’s set…

by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Samsung has released some pretty impressive Android tablets in the past, but a new rumor suggests that the company's next flagship slates could be some of the most impressive tablets the world has ever seen. The rumor comes from SamMobile, which has a good track record when covering unannounced Samsung devices, and it suggests that the South Korean consumer electronics giant's next big tablets could be beastly devices with cutting-edge specs and the best displays ever seen on large tablets. This is how Google forces its core product on Android device makers
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Google was recently hit with an antitrust lawsuit (seeking class action status), which alleges that the company’s mostly secret agreements with Android smartphone and tablet makers – which include provisions that prevent the OEMs from including competing apps on their devices other than Google’s set of apps, with special emphasis on search – allow Google to monopolize the mobile search business, driving up the cost of devices in the process. Future travel: Don’t pack, just email what you need to a 3D printer
by Guest Tero Kuittinen- 0 replies

An Amsterdam art gallery called Galerie VIVID is having an exhibition that amounts to a meditation of how 3D printing could reshape travel. The artist Janne Kyttanen has designed a collection of objects that a woman flying for a beach vacation could conceivably print out at a resort instead of packing them with her in her suitcase, including a handbag, a multi-purpose dress, sunglasses, shoes, etc. Continue reading... http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/efb44293c3376e60dbaf78b7f27534ee.jpg Among the many impressive new features that HTC added with the HTC One (M8) was new "Motion Launch" functionality that gives you much more control over your device using simple gestures, such as the ability to both wake it up and put it back to sleep by double-tapping the display. Unfortunately, the only way to get this incredibly cool feature so far has been to buy an HTC One (M8)... until now, that is. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

LG G3 press render leaks yet again, this time the display is on
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Within the last few days, we have seen plenty of the upcoming LG G3. A few days ago, we saw multiple photos of the handset surface on the web. Yesterday, @evleaks shared two press renders. It featured the LG G3 once in black and again in white. Now we have a press render of the device with the display illuminated. The takeaway from the image above is that LG’s goal of eliminating a smartphone’s bezel is coming along. The LG G2 was applauded for this and now it has caused other smartphones’ bezels to be compared. We also see on-screen buttons are still present, but that is something we have known already. Look closely, though, and you will notice below the weather forec…

Samsung explains “modern flash” design concepts behind Galaxy S 5
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Samsung’s design team has given a brief interview elaborating on the design process behind their latest Galaxy S 5. Samsung went with a design concept they call “modern flash,” a sophisticated and youthful urban style infused with emotion. The design helped Samsung create the UI and UX of the entire device, from the colors they picked to the default wallpapers to the texture of the back of the device they went with. Samsung has gone for a nature-inspired feel with their last two flagship phones, but with the S 5, they went for a more abstract, geometric feeling. This abstract design is most prevalent in the lock screen wallpaper of the device, with hard edges that S…
