Play Music Android app updated to 5.5, share and edit playlists
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Google updated the Android Play Music app to 5.5 bringing a couple of new features to playlists. By far the biggest change is that you can now share your playlists with your friends, provided the music is in the cloud, not on your device. As far as editing playlists, you could already create new playlists and edit your music choices in existing playlists, but you can now edit the name and description of your playlists from your device. This is a staged rollout, but you can download the apk if you’re in a hurry. Download links after the break. Snapchat adds texting and video calling
by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies
Users of the 10-second video social network will find an update that allows them to chat with their Snapchat buddies. Accessible straight from the main camera view, all you have to do is swipe the person you want to chat with and you’re on your way. As in normal Snapchat fashion, the moment you go away from the conversation, your messages disappear. You do have the option to save messages you deem important though. That’s not the only thing that Snapchat is adding though. When you’re Snapchatting someone or have a chat window open, there will be a notification button — that’s blue — that will allow you to instantly turn that chat into a video call. You have the optio…

by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies
In a world where smartphone manufacturers used long obnoxious names for their devices, one phone stood up against the norm. Ah, who are we kidding. Most phones these days have longer names, and most of them are a mouthful. Well if evleaks is right — and he typically is — the next generation HTC One Mini will be the HTC One Mini 2. Like we said, a mouthful. The device is said to have a 4.5-inch screen with a 720p resolution. It features a Snapdragon 400 clocked at 1.4GHz, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. It will have a 13 MP rear shooter accompanied by a 5 MP camera in the front. It will have Android 4.4.2 with Sense 6.0 onboard and is currently slated for Veri…

T-Mobile adds more customers in Q1 than all other carriers combined, but swings to loss
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
T-Mobile on Thursday morning reported its results for the first quarter of the year, marking the first time the scrappy carrier added more than 2 million net new subscribers in a single quarter. The nation's No. 4 wireless service provider said that it added a total of 2.4 million net new customers in Q1, yet another clear sign that its "Uncarrier" plans and marketing initiatives are catching consumers' attention. All of that marketing came at a hefty price, however, and T-Mobile posted a loss of $151 million in the quarter. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

AT&T eying DirecTV takeover in a move that could make it America’s top pay TV provider
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
With Comcast and Time Warner Cable fighting to merge, AT&T has no intentions of sitting idle. The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday night reported that AT&T has approached satellite TV giant DirecTV about a possible acquisition. As the report notes, such a deal would instantly propel AT&T from being a somewhat small player in the pay TV market to being the No. 2 provider in a post-Comcast/TWC merger world. Should Comcast's acquisition fall through, a DirecTV deal would make AT&T the top pay TV provider in the country with nearly 26 million subscribers, after adding DirecTV's 20 million households to its own 5.7 million. The Journal notes that such a deal wo…

by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

So it turns out that America's nuclear weapons system still uses the same 8-inch floppy disks that it used in the 1980s. Geek.com has a good rundown of why we shouldn't be too concerned about this revelation and it basically boils down to this: Our system for controlling our nuclear arsenal isn't broke and trying to fix it could be a really bad idea. Facebook announces “Anonymous Login” that prevents personal information from being shared
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
We have all experienced it before. You have to login with your Facebook account and it accesses all of your personal information. It does not matter whether you are just testing something. No matter what, Facebook’s third-party applications need to get inside. That all ends today, though. With Anonymous Login, users can try an app without ever having personal information handed over. Changes are also being made to the regular Facebook login system. Upon logging in with your account, you have full control over what information different applications can access. And the App Control Panel has been redesigned to easily see what apps have access. So think twice before de…

LG G3 in a rugged case leaks, shows new user interface and a fresh rear setup
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

The LG G3 will be announced on May 27 when the company holds a few press events across the globe. While we have not seen the entire device, we have been able to get a glimpse at the user interface and the back of the handset. And now we have an image that puts both of those pieces together. The image above is purportedly the LG G3 sitting inside of a rugged case. The UI matches the one previously leaked and the rear button setup also matches the one leaked recently. Interestingly enough, the UI shows London as the location and that is also where LG’s main event will be held. While it could have easily been a placeholder, it sure is nice to see what the G3 may look like…

New Google Glass teardown estimates cost of hardware at under $80
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
One of the more controversial aspects of Google’s Glass experiment has been the $1500 price tag that Explorers have to pony up to get their hands on the hardware. Most people expect Google to lower the cost by a significant amount when a final version for public sale is finally available. Just how low Google can go on their pricing and still have a profitable product may have been partially answered by a new teardown of Glass completed by TechInsights’ Teardown.com division. They have estimated the costs of the components to be less than $80. The team is still working on completing their teardown, but their initial cost estimate has raised some eyebrows and prompted a …

Apps for Education offers free Web-based email, calendar and documents to over 30 million students and faculty, and although Google did not place ads within the apps, it continued to scan every message sent through Gmail to target students in other online locations.
