AT&T announced today that they are building a 4G LTE in-flight connectivity service to enable users to be able to access the Internet even in the sky. Apple-Samsung case jurors have 53 pages of instructions to go through before a verdict is...

The ongoing lawsuit between Apple and Samsung has hit yet another speed bump. This one will really slow things down. The jurors have 53 pages of instructions to analyze before reaching a verdict. At stake is the proof of damages and the amount being rewarded. Judge Lucy Koh made it clear to the jurors that “It is your duty to find the facts from all the evidence in the case.” Taking as much time as necessary to reach the proper verdict is the goal (as it is in any case). Within the 53 pages of instructions lies seven patents that Apple claims Samsung is infringing upon. Two of the seven patents being discussed are closely related to Android and Google. This is because …

Google patents dual-Glass design, suggests Google Glass with two lenses may be in the works
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
A patent filed by Google suggests their vision for the future of Google Glass will involve something that may actually look like normal glasses. The patent shows a pair of lenses with Glass covering both eyes, as opposed to just a single frame like it is right now. The patent was filed way back in September of 2011, and really opens up some new possibilities of what Glass can do. Glass covering both eyes could create a unique HUD or even true 3D experiences, something no other product has managed to successfully do for mainstream consumers. The patent also lists this design as being able to adjust its color scheme and visibility based on the background, which …

Apple launches new MacBook Airs that are faster than ever and $100 cheaper
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Apple on Tuesday quietly unveiled new MacBook Air models, as previously reported, but the new laptops will not offer any particularly interesting updates – a recent report claimed new Air models will be even thinner and lighter than their predecessors, but that’s not the case for Apple’s early 2014 Air models. What’s significant though is that the new Airs are now cheaper than ever, no matter what model buyers end up choosing. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Samsung on Tuesday reported its second consecutive quarter of declining on-year profits as growth of the company's high-end smartphone sales continued to slow. The company posted audited first-quarter results that were in line with the guidance it released earlier in April. Operating profit came in at $8.2 billion, a 3.3% decline from the year-ago quarter, on revenue totaling $52 billion. Net profit climbed 5.9% to 7.34 billion thanks to improved margins. Samsung said its results should improve in the second quarter of the year thanks to sales of its new Galaxy S5 flagship phone, which launched during the second week of April. Continue reading... by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

A few days ago, we wrote about how you can save the Internet. The Federal Communications Commission has taken a great deal of heat over its new net neutrality proposal, which many argue is designed specifically to ensure that Internet service in the United States is not neutral. If that accurately describes your position on the matter, there are a few things you can do. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Skype introduces free group video calling for PC, Mac and Xbox One
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
One of Skype's best features is now free for everyone. Skype announced on Monday that group video calling, which was previously a Premium-only feature, is now free for all users on the PC, Mac and Xbox One. It took years of requests from the community, but Skype wants to stay competitive in a very saturated field. Plenty of other programs, including Google Hangouts, have allowed free conference calls for quite some time. Skype plans to expand the roll out to even more platforms in the future. In the meantime, Skype Premium is no longer available as the company attempts to refresh its service to account for free group video calls. Phone call subscriptions are still offere…

Elop denies he was Ballmer’s plant at Nokia
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

As tempting as it might be to believe the Grand Elop Conspiracy theory, the man at the center of it all insists that it's not true. ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley notices that former Nokia CEO and current Microsoft exec Stephen Elop was asked during a question-and-answer session on Monday to react to accusations that he was a "Trojan Horse" at Nokia whose job was solely to bring the company's value down enough for Microsoft to buy it on the cheap. Elop, as you might expect, was having none of it. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Easter egg hunt for Google I/O 2014 registration codes concludes
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies

During the past couple weeks, some Google developers have been on an Easter egg hunt that yielded a registration code for this year’s Google I/O event. The hunt commenced as developers found leads that unlocked access to a text-based robot assistant named Icarus Odessa. I.O. then led the programs on a space-themed text adventure game. Along the way, the hunt exposed developers to several different Google products and platforms like: Google Developers home – a source for APIs, documentation, developer tools, programs, trainings, and open-source projects; YouTube channels – covering Android and Google Developer topics, the YouTube channels include tutorials, overviews …

OnePlus issues statement about Oppo situation
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
OnePlus has issued a statement regarding the news that broke yesterday suggesting OnePlus was owned by Oppo. The statement was meant to help clear things up, but depending on how concerned someone is with clarity about the situation, it may just serve to muddy the waters. According to OnePlus: “…OnePlus is a separately run company that does share common investors with OPPO. One of those investors is OPPO Electronic. OPPO Electronic is an investment company and is not the same as OPPO Mobile. OnePlus is also in talks with other investors.” OnePlus seems to be making the point that the Oppo listed in the SIPO documents is not the same Oppo that produces competing…

If there's one multiplayer title that should be on your radar this year, it's Destiny. Bungie, the team that made the Xbox a household name with Halo, is working on its first original IP in years, and the developer has finally shared a longer look at the actual gameplay this week. In the video, we see a group of players storming the House of Devil's lair, a hideout for the Fallen and location of the Strike cooperative mission. LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt SSD review: Finicky mechanical HDDs are dead to me
by Guest Darren Murph- 0 replies
First, a story. I loathe mechanical hard drives. They’re painfully slow, annoyingly finicky, and prone to failure — the consumer ones, anyway. Toss one in a cheap USB 3.0 enclosure, however, and you’ve got a bona fide recipe for disaster. I’m sure I could find millions who’d comment that their [insert external HDD here] is still humming fine after a few years, but my wife and I have blown through six failures in the past four years. Brand, capacity, bus — it matters not. These things just aren’t designed for being used in a coach airline seat, thrown around at will, and generally having their key attribute (read: mobility) being taken advantage of. New report suggests HTC’s next phone will seriously undercut the Galaxy S5
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

HTC may mock Samsung's use of plastic for its flagship smartphone but the Taiwanese company isn't above using plastic itself for mid-range devices. Unnamed sources tell Engadget that HTC's upcoming HTC M8 Ace smartphone will be a plastic device that will have almost the exact same major specifications as Samsung's Galaxy S5 (a 5-inch 1080p display, a a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, etc.) but will be priced at around $480 off contract, or more than $150 less than the Galaxy S5's off-contract price of $650. The Level series includes the Level Over, Level On, and Level In, named for being over-ear, on-ear, or in-ear headphones, respectively.
