by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Notebook sales were still on the decline in the first quarter of the year, Digitimes Research says, although the “on-year declines were the slowest compared to those in the past five quarters,” and some laptop makers have enjoyed renewed success in the business during the period. Even so, it's not clear yet whether the notebook market has started to recover, the publication noted. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Evolve is shaping up to be the most captivating cooperative game of the new generation of consoles. Announced earlier this year, Evolve is a successor of sorts to Turtle Rock Studios' last major project, Left 4 Dead. As in Left 4 Dead, players in Evolve will team up to fight a terrifying threat, but this time the threat is much larger than a zombie. Evolve pits a team of four humans players (Hunters) against a single, gigantic monster (Goliath). Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Video: Watch this incredible time lapse of the northern lights
by Guest Ben Zigterman- 0 replies
Photographer Alexis Coram took a trip to Alaska earlier this year and ended up capturing one of the most impressive videos of the northern lights that we’ve seen. The northern lights occur when charged particles of the sun enter Earth’s atmosphere and can usually only be seen from the higher latitudes, which is why most of us never get to see them up close and in person. However, Coram's video is so incredible that it might be the next-best thing. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Huawei Ascend P7 specs leak, confirming quad-core CPU, 13 megapixel camera and extremely thin...
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
We’ve been hearing leaks about the Huawei Ascend P7′s specs since as far back as December, but @evleaks has kindly confirmed what we were already assuming. The P7 will sport a quad-core Kirin processor clocked at 1.8 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot, and a 13 megapixel camera with an 8 megapixel front shooter. Pretty solid device for 2014. The design is supposedly less than 7 mm thin and it “basically looks like the P6.” If you liked the P6, you’re in luck, but if you were hoping Huawei would shake up the design, you may want to wait for the next model. source: @evleaks Come comment on this article: Huawei Ascend P7 specs le…

How to use S Health on the Galaxy S 5
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Samsung introduced S Health last year on the Galaxy S 4. so it’s no surprise that it showed up on the Galaxy S 5. The difference this year isn’t so much the app, but the marketing behind it. This year, health and fitness is a big part of the Galaxy S 5 since it also works in conjunction with the Gear devices. However, you don’t need those devices to use S Health. Just like last year, S Health can track diet and workouts pretty easily. You can use it as a simple pedometer to track all your steps throughout the day and/or track specific workouts. New for this year is a “coach” to help you achieve your goals. The “coach” isn’t limited to just diets and workouts, it will a…

The Big Android BBQ is a popular Android conference geared towards developers and enthusiasts alike. This year is expected to be the biggest year yet with additional sessions and exhibits. It will be taking place at the Hurst Convention Center in Hurst, Texas from October 16-18. This year’s speakers include developers Matt Kranzler and Matt Runo from Zappos and Steve Kondik, founder of the CyanogenMod project. In addition, Google Play Games engineer Nicolas Klein will be in attendance. While there are plenty of other speakers, it is always good to see indie developers in addition to Google employees sharing the stage at a conference. With support from the likes of…

Google says Glass store opening is only temporary
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Since users discovered earlier today that orders for Google Glass could be placed at the Glass store without an invite, similar to the one-day sale they had last week, folks have been scrambling to figure out whether this was an official move by Google to open sales up to the general public instead of a limited program for approved invitees. Google has now issued a statement indicating: “This link was created to accommodate potential Explorers who were still in the pipeline from last week’s sale. We’re shutting it down shortly. As always, we will continue to experiment with ways to expand the Explorer program in the weeks and months ahead.” Potential buyers who…

Next generation of LG tablets surface at FCC
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Perhaps riding the coattails of success they experienced with the LG G Pad 8.3, two new tablets from LG have surfaced at the FCC suggesting a public release is not too far off. The devices are listed with model numbers LG V700 and LG V400. The V700 is shown in the filings with a landscape orientation, suggesting it may be a larger tablet possibly in the 10-inch range. The V400 on the other hand is shown with a portrait orientation which would be more consistent with a 7- or 8-inch size tablet. Unfortunately, no other information is available about either device or what kind of hardware LG may have packed in to the tablets. Even the name is a mystery, but we suspect LG …

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/aa298847da039d884e72b7a89c19e22b.jpg Big changes may be coming to Google+. As Re/Code reports, former Google+ boss Vic Gundotra will be leaving Google after eight years at the company. Re/Code's sources say that Google has appointed Google+ vice president of engineering David Besbris to take Gundotra's place, which means that the company passed over Google+ product boss Bradley Horowitz, whom Re/Code describes as "Gundotra’s top lieutenant." Re/Code's sources didn't give any indication about why Gundotra might be leaving the company, although the report does say that his departure will have "wider repercussions on what's next f…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/681be08fa5c86fccc709436c743becd1.jpg Right on the heels of another successful quarter for Apple, J.D. Power has awarded the tech giant with the proverbial cherry on top: its latest smartphone customer satisfaction survey puts the iPhone maker ahead of Samsung, HTC, BlackBerry and LG on every major U.S. carrier. According to J.D. Power, customers of AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile are most satisfied with their iOS devices, with Samsung taking second place. It wasn't exactly a blowout for Apple though -- on a 1,000 point scale for each carrier, Apple only beat Samsung by double digits for Sprint customers. The score was wi…

After almost 8 years with Google, Vic Gundotra is leaving the company. Vic’s position was Senior Vice President for Social at Google ,and he led the creation and rise of Google+. New image surfaces of revamped Dialer for Android
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
A few days ago it appeared that someone at Google leaked a couple screenshots of a new dialer for Android 4.4.3. Now, a user on the XDA forums has posted another screenshot purporting to show another view of the Dialer app. This new screenshot uses a tiled display of contacts using the contact picture for those with one or a colored block with first initial ala the Gmail app for those with no picture. Judging by the search bar at the top, this could be the contacts screen as opposed to something like the call log screen. It is also unclear whether this would be the only view of the contact list or just one option for users. source: XDA forums Come comment on this …

We know Motorola is readying the next generation Moto X, dubbed the Moto X+1, but they are also readying new DROIDs for Verizon Wireless. A new device with the model number of XT912A showed up in GFXBench that is most likely one of these phones. The specs of the said device include a 5.2-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor (presumably a new version of Moto’s Mobile Computing System), 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 12MP rear camera, and 2MP front-facing camera. It’s also running Android 4.4.3, which isn’t even out yet. The model number is what is most interesting. The number is lower than the Moto X, Moto G, and DROIDs (all…

IFTTT (IF This Then That) is a fantastic automation and task engine application that was previously only available on iOS, but today it’s finally jumped onto the Play Store, completely free. All you’ll need is an Android tablet or smartphone running 4.0 and up, which should cover just about everyone. The app showcases a few examples of how you can automate your device, including setting your latest Instagram upload as your device background or uploading to cloud storage of your choice, or upload any screenshots you take to Google Drive. Outside of backing up your photos, you can also set up alerts for sports games or create emails to be sent out once you reach a cer…

Amazon’s latest announcement will change our lives more than you know

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/3074af4ddefedb93291a67dc8a227fb8.jpg I know, I know. You already know the answer. But my reaction to Amazon’s Prime Pantry introduction — which allows its Prime members to have up to 45 pounds of home goods shipped directly to their doorstep within four days for a $6 fee — has more to do with the industry at large. As someone who resides in a rural location, being able to shop online is a huge boon. Pets.com and eBay were but infants in the online universe, and it was already obvious that the holy grail of online shipping would be the day that your groceries arrived to your doorstep, precisely as ordered, without anything being…

We all know the dangers of looking down at our phones while behind the wheel of a car, but when that familiar beep or buzz signals the arrival of a text message, it can be hard to resist glancing away from the road momentarily. A recent patent from Apple could solve the problem once and for all. Published on the USPTO website this week, Apple's "driver handheld computing device lock-out" mechanism would disable certain functions on a mobile device while the user is driving.
