Apple also had a pair of huge announcements related to its stock, and plenty more that it covered. Here are the five most important takeaways from Wednesday's report: Continue reading... http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/01662104469325369df3ce685f66dc0a.jpg We're still months away from Apple's launch of the next-generation iPhone, but every major report we've read suggests that Apple plans on releasing two different versions: A 4.7-inch model and a 5.5-inch model. Inspired by 9to5Mac's poll of its readers, we thought that we'd ask BGR readers which version of the new iPhone they'd rather own. Below you'll find a poll where you can let us know if you'd rather own the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 or if you'd prefer some other option. Android mobile ad traffic trumps iOS for the first time, still lags in ad revenue though
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Android might dominate the mobile market share in terms of devices sold, but when it comes to mobile ad traffic and ad revenue, it has always lagged. As reported by Opera Mediaworks, Android showed 42.8% of mobile ad impressions as compared to 38.2% for iOS devices during the first quarter 2014. However, Android still lags in ad revenue as iOS achieved 52% vs Android’s 33.5%. The good news is that Android did show a significant jump over the first quarter of 2013, which was 27%. Although this data is worldwide, the U.S. represents 50.6% of global market ad traffic. With Android representing close to 80% of the overall market share for smartphones sales, you would …

Here’s a good look at the OnePlus One StyleSwap replaceable back covers
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies

OnePlus didn’t show off their StyleSwap back covers during yesterday’s big announcement, but we have a few really nice shots of the bamboo and wooden versions. Just like the Moto G, these covers easily swap out to give your phone a completely different look. They will offer wood, bamboo, denim, and Kevlar. We have no idea how much OnePlus will be asking for these covers, but expect them to be under $25, which is what Motorola gets for their custom wooden back covers for the Moto X. Galaxy S 5 outsells iPhone 5S during respective launch weekends [Infographic]
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies

I have to admit, I am a little surprised by this news. Love or hate Apple products, their fans go crazy when a new iPhone or iPad launches. However, it doesn’t seem like they go as crazy as I thought they did. iQmetrix specializes in retail management software for the wireless industry, so they have a good handle on the data from retail channels. According to them, during the launch weekend of April 11-13, the Galaxy S 5 snagged 25% and 18% of the smartphone market share in the USA and Canada respectively. One the other hand, the iPhone 5S was only able to snag 18% and 13% in the USA and Canada respectively for its launch weekend of September 20-22. We have the full…

Here is something for the person who likes a lot of bling. Samsung is teaming up again with Swarovski for another edition of the Crystal Collection. A teaser video was just released showing the Galaxy S 5 Crystal Edition, which should be unveiled next month in Korea. The phone will be essentially the same Galaxy S 5 that is available now other than the Swarovski crystals. How much will this bad boy cost? We aren’t sure yet, but expect it to be a pretty hefty price tag. Hit the break for the very short teaser video. How Google completely botched the Google Glass rollout
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Google Glass has had a rough year in the court of public opinion. Not only has the device become the fodder of jokes for late-night comedians, but even some of its high-profile early adopters have started bashing it with gleeful abandon. Forbes has written a good autopsy of all the mistakes that Google has made when rolling out Glass to the general public and it gives some pretty convincing answers about why something that generated massive media hype when it was first teased two years ago is now seen as the next Segway. by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

OnePlus officially launched the highly anticipated One handset on Wednesday, a phone that’s supposed to deliver high-end hardware and performance for a more than affordable price. In fact, the OnePlus One may be a worthy Nexus 5 adversary, considering it’ll deliver a bloat-free Android experience – the phone runs a special CyanogenMod 11S ROM built on Android 4.4 KitKat – and Geek has already compared it against Google’s latest flagship phone in a quick boot test. Verizon delivers mixed Q1 earnings, adds 539,000 postpaid subscribers
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
T-Mobile may be shaking up the wireless industry, but it hasn't stopped Verizon from chugging along. In its first-quarter earnings report released Thursday, Verizon posted a profit of $0.84 per share, which was below the consensus estimate of $0.87 per share. On the plus side, the company's revenue in Q1 2014 was $31.8 billion, which was over $1 billion higher than the consensus estimate of $30.7 billion. What's more, Verizon added 539,000 postpaid subscribers on the quarter, which is a solid number slightly below the 625,000 postpaid subscriber gains that AT&T reported over the same quarter. Even more importantly, Verizon's postpaid churn, or the rate at which custom…

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/05305d3c8e9e8c0c7d22fcbdf1c4e7c3.png Samsung wants you to think of the Galaxy S5 as a luxury good, even if the device's outer case is made of cheap-feeling dimpled plastic. With this in mind, Samsung has teamed up with luxury crystal designer Swarovski to create a new cover for the Galaxy S5 that is draped from top to bottom in crystals. Samsung says that the new Galaxy S5 Crystal Collection will launch sometime in May and will, according to a Google translation of Samsung's Korean YouTube page, "meet the special glitter." This isn't the first time Samsung and Swarovski have partnered on a luxury smartphone case, as the two com…

Samsung SM-T2558 gets certified in China, sports a 7-inch display on a smartphone’s body
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Here is a device that will make just about everyone scratch their head. A Samsung device with the model number SM-T2558 has received certification from TENAA in China, but it features a rather odd design. No, it is not a smartphone as the image above would suggest. The device your are looking at is a 7-inch tablet that looks very much like a smartphone. It does have TD-LTE and TD-SCDMA connectivity, so it actually could act as a smartphone, right? Other specifications include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1.5GB of RAM. In true Samsung fashion, there is a microSD card slot to expand upon the 8GB of internal storage. On the back is an 8MP camera and the front …

Samsung releases ad for Gear Fit showing off fitness and social features
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

Samsung has released a new ad for its Gear Fit showing off what it does best; tracking your physical activity and helping you manage your social life. The video shows the heart rate monitor in action, the calorie tracker at work, and it even shows a DJ declining a call from his wrist. It follows Samsung’s advertising mentality that the Fit is a device that can improve anyone’s life, no matter what they do for fun. It’s definitely a fun video, and if you want to watch it, you can check it out after the break. Click here to view the embedded video. Motorola Moto X price drops for Republic Wireless, Amazon does the same for the GSM model
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
This one is a little tricky, so listen up. Motorola’s Moto X is getting a price drop through two different locations. The first is from Motorola’s very own store and it only applies to one model. The Moto X for Republic Wireless can be customized through Moto Maker and the total cost comes in at $349. Whether or not this is permanent, we will will have to wait and see. The other option is with Amazon. You can get the GSM model of the Moto X for $349 as well. This means for $349, you can take it to any GSM carrier such as AT&T or T-Mobile. Unfortunately, it does not seem as if Verizon or Sprint models are involved in any deals. But if you have an education email …

LG ‘W Watch’ name surfaces before the G Watch is even released
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
The LG G Watch has not even been released yet and we are already talking about another LG smartwatch. A United States Patent and Trademark Office filing revealed the name of the “W Watch.” This is not the first time we are hearing about an LG smartwatch being released shortly after the G Watch. Would LG really risk the bad publicity of releasing something right after their initial Android Wear device? It sure seems like that may be the case. But what else could the W Watch be? I think a smartwatch not tied to Android is a very good possibility. Perhaps something that would work with many platforms is something LG is working on. Source: USPTO Via: Pocketnow Com…

by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies

HTC‘s Advantage program has a number of great selling points, including the free Google Drive space that you get with it. HTC has just posted a message on the Advantage website alerting customers to a bug with the AT&T HTC One (M8) Google Drive deal. The message states the issue as being a “minor technical error”, and there’s really no other details except that HTC is working on fixing it. We don’t really know who exactly is to blame, but the feature will reportedly be back up in mid-May. To see the notice for yourself hit the source link below, and then click on “AT&T HTC One (M8) ALERT” under the free storage column. Source: HTC Come comment on this a…

Samsung now has another company to fear besides Apple
by Guest Ben Zigterman- 0 replies

Right now, the smartphone market is essentially split between Samsung and Apple, with all other companies struggling to make a profit. However, this could soon change, as Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is hoping to shake things up with its dirt-cheap smartphones that actually sport fairly impressive specs. For example, it’s flagship Mi3 smartphone features a quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, a 5-inch Full HD 1080p display, and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, all for about $330. Samsung lures developers to smartwatches with $1.25 million in cash
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
By all accounts, consumer responses to smartwatches have not exactly been enthusiastic so far. Big gadget makers will continue to push smartwatches and other wearables as growth in the smartphone market continues to slow, but without compelling functionality and solid ecosystems, those efforts will be exceedingly difficult. To address the latter point, Samsung has decided to dangle a pretty massive carrot it hopes developers will chase. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Android apps vulnerable to Heartbleed have been downloaded 150 million times
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Patching up Android to make sure it's not vulnerable to Heartbleed is one thing. Patching all vulnerable Android apps, on the other hand, is quite another. Re/code draws our attention to a new study from research firm FireEye that claims there have been around 150 million downloads of Android apps that are vulnerable to the Heartbleed bug. And to make matters worse, the researchers say that the assorted "Heartbleed detectors" you can now find in the Google Play store will do little to help you root out vulnerable apps you've downloaded. Every company in the market wants to provide its own online TV streaming service, but Dish might be the first to give consumers a real offer. Bloomberg reports that Dish Network is looking to bring an Internet-TV service to the United States this summer, a set of live-streaming channels that will be accessible through connected devices such as smartphones and tablets. Disney signed onto the service last month, and A&E, Turner Broadcasting and CBS have reportedly been in talks with the provider as well. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

The market for racing games has been left wide open in the new generation of consoles. Forza Motorsport 5 and Need for Speed: Rivals attempted to fill the gap last fall, but with the extended delay of the PlayStation 4 exclusive Driveclub, Project CARS has taken the reins. Developed by Slightly Mad Studios, Project CARS (Community Assisted Racing Simulator) is an impossibly gorgeous racing game with one of the most interesting development cycles of any title announced for the new consoles.
