BREAKING -- Apple reports Q2 earnings: Profit crushes estimates, revenue climbs despite lack...
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Earnings season is now in full swing and as always, Apple's are the most hotly anticipated results in the technology sector. This time around, however, it's not because industry watchers want to see how impressive the company's most recent quarter was, but because the world wants to see how Apple is doing after not having released a notable new product since this past November. Last year, CEO Tim Cook promised new launches in "exciting new product categories" across 2014, and he will undoubtedly promise exciting new products again on Wednesday's earnings call. But so far, we've seen exactly nothing new or exciting from Apple in 2014. Were last year's iPhone 5s, iPad Ai…

The market is about to get flooded with extra Apple shares. Apple on Wednesday announced a seven-for-one stock split, which means that shareholders will receive six additional shares of Apple stock for every share they now own. The split will go into effect on June 2nd this year. The company also said it would be upping its share buyback program to $90 billion. Both of these announcements came as part of Apple's latest quarterly earnings report where it posted an EPS of $11.62 on revenue of $45.6 billion. Apple shares surged by more than 8% in after-hours trading following the announcements. Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Amazing 4K displays are coming soon to 10-inch tablets
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Japan Display on Wednesday announced that it has already developed an ultra-high resolution 4K x 2K LCD module for tablets that’s not only capable of offering a huge 3840 x 2160 resolution on a 10.1-inch display, but it’s also energy-efficient. The company said in its announcement that even though the new tablet screen has 4K resolution, power consumption will be similar to 10.1-inch WQXGA LCD modules (which have 2560 x 1600 resolution), as it uses low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) technology. Have we already reached peak iPad?
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Apple's latest earnings report was mostly good news for the company, but there was one potentially dark cloud: iPad sales. On the quarter, Apple sold 16.35 million iPads, which was below the consensus estimate of 19.7 million units sold. Analyst Benedict Evans has put together a chart for trailing twelve months unit sales for both the iPhone and the iPad and has found that the iPad's growth has been stopped dead in its tracks. How to setup and use the fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S 5
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Tired of tapping a PIN or Pattern to unlock your phone? Well, Samsung introduced a fingerprint scanner (or as they call it, the finger scanner) on the Galaxy S 5, which you might find to be a little easier. Surprisingly it works pretty well. It’s just a matter of learning exactly how your finger needs to be placed on the display. The only real negative is that you have to slide your finger, as in it’s not a simple touch like the iPhone 5S. So you might find that unlocking your phone with one hand is a little cumbersome. Setting things up is really easy. You just need to teach the Galaxy S 5 your fingerprint by swiping eight times. You can even store up to three fi…

How to setup and use the Galaxy S 5 fingerprint scanner to make Paypal payments
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Samsung’s fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S 5 can secure your phone, but it can also be quite handy for making payments via Paypal. Instead of entering a password or PIN to login in to Paypal or make a payment, now you can just swipe your finger. Since this is a special partnership between Samsung and Paypal, you will need to download the Paypal app from Samsung Apps since it is the only version that includes code for Samsung’s fingerprint scanner. So far, Verizon’s GS5 is the only one we know of that doesn’t include Samsung Apps, so you will need to download and install it as a third party APK before you can proceed. Assuming you are ready to go, follow my instru…

Google ‘Stars’ being tested with Chrome, allows favoriting URLs and more
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
On the web, you generally do not want to bookmark everything you see. Bookmarking is typically reserved for sites that you frequently visit or sites that you need on-hand for a task. However, there is nothing to favorite a link and have it stored in case you want to go back to it for whatever reason. I understand that you can technically “favorite” something as a bookmark, but the function basically ends there. And that is where Google Stars would come in. On Google+, user Florian Kiersch uncovered what Google is working on with Chrome. Google Stars would maintain a folder full of content favorited. It would essentially function like Pocket. Once items are in a folder,…

Ever wonder what the Freedom Tower in New York City looked like while it was being constructed? Now you can take a look at that and more famous locations with Google Maps’ Street View. Google announced today that Street View will give users a look back at “historical imagery from past Street View collections dating back to 2007 to create this digital time capsule of the world.” All you have to do is open Google Maps and some locations will feature these collections. Others include the construction of a 2014 FIFA World Cup stadium in Brazil and the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake in Japan compared to just before. Source: Google Lat Long Come comment on this art…

by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

We know that Apple released iOS 7.1.1 earlier this week to fix a wide range of bugs and it turns out those bugs might be much more serious than we realized. Ars Technica reports that Kristin Paget, a former Apple whitehat hacker who now works for Tesla, has been ripping into her former employer for allegedly leaving its users wide open to some potentially serious hacks in the weeks between the releases of iOS 7.1 and iOS 7.1.1. Watch Dogs is already one of the most hyped game releases of the spring, but Ubisoft's clever marketing campaign might convince a whole new crowd to check the game out. Digital Shadow is a website being run by Ubisoft which allows Facebook users to see just how vulnerable their information could be to an outside source. By allowing the site to access your account, Digital Shadow will let you know within seconds which contacts you regularly interact with, which words you use most often in status updates and when you're active on the social network. Samsung cleared initial stock of 250,000 Gear Fit devices in 10 days
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
According to an early report, Samsung shipped out roughly 250,000 Gear Fit wearables, and within 10 days, they were all sold. It’s obviously not as impressive as selling millions of smartphones, but it does show that there’s plenty of interest in the Gear Fit, despite the relatively high price tag and getting panned in early reviews. Samsung reportedly only sold 25,000 of the devices in its home country, South Korea, sending the rest out to meet global demand. Hopefully Samsung will be able to ramp up the supply to meet the demand for the Fit in the coming months. source: News.MK via: SamMobile Come comment on this article: Samsung cleared initial…

Motorola shipped 6.5 million devices globally in Q1
by Guest Macky Evangelista- 0 replies

Motorola announced that they have shipped a total of 6.5 million of their devices globally during Q1. Is that a lot you ask? Well, in comparison Samsung sold about 10 million Galaxy Note 3′s in 2 months and 10 million Galaxy S4′s in just one month. I know, it’s not fair to compare it to the world’s number 1 cell phone manufacturer, but it’s still interesting to see what Motorola has been able to achieve. With their mild success of the Moto X, hopefully the successor will push Motorola’s sales a bit more forward later in this year. source: Twitter Come comment on this article: Motorola shipped 6.5 million devices globally in Q1 Visit TalkAndroid for Android …

To be honest, I wasn’t all too excited with the upcoming arrival of the CyanogenMod based OnePlus One device since I was too busy with the Galaxy S 5, HTC One M8 and even the Sony Z2 unveilings. Turns out the ones you don’t expect turn out to be one hell of a shocker. The OnePlus One device will come with a 5.5″ IPS display powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 801 processor accompanied with 3GB of RAM. You’ll also see a nice 13MP camera with a 6-lens f/2.0. As for battery, you can expect a nice 3,100mAh Li-Po battery. Throw in a magnesium chassis, and you have one gorgeous phone. OnePlus also claims that this will be the lightest 5.5″ phone on the market …

Google will pay some of Samsung’s costs from Apple lawsuit in addition to joining defense
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
It is safe to assume that Google’s best interest is to assist partners when they head into court, especially against Apple. That is exactly what the company is going to do with Apple going after Samsung. Not only will Google be defending Samsung and taking some blame, but Google is going to cover some of Samsung’s costs in the event Apple wins. There are four patents that Google is getting in front of Samsung about. Two of them have already been dismissed before the trial started; however, Ina Fried of Re/code notes that “the ’414 and ’959 patents, cover background synchronization and universal search, respectively.” Google is getting in front of two vital Android feat…
