by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
Samsung has put a lot of effort into its apps of late, but a recent study shows that its efforts are mostly for nothing. The company clearly still has a long way to go. According to the study, users spend a very little amount of time on Samsung’s apps. These apps include services like ChatON, which is Samsung’s answer to WhatsApp. In fact, the report shows that users of the Galaxy S3 and S4 spent an average of 6 seconds per month on ChatON, which is compared to over 11 hours on Facebook per month and 2 hours per month on Instagram. The study tracked over 250 million users of the two devices in the US and their app use last month. Users spent an average of 7 minute…

Kelso's Quest is the latest creation from Avocoder, the mobile app developer behind Toasty Boy, a Flappy Bird parody that managed to crack the top 100 free games chart on the App Store last month. Unlike Toasty Boy, Kelso's Quest is a completely original title, mixing in elements of the puzzle and adventure genres as the eponymous Kelso journeys through treacherous environments in search of his kidnapped son. At the end of each set of levels, Kelso will face off against a boss, learning more about the motivations behind the kidnapping as he takes down a variety of evil beasts. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/da07c65c8fa7b78707f298857861b08f.jpg Now that Apple has been seen further extending its company trademark to cover Class 14 devices including watches, a new piece of evidence seems to indicate that there’s apparently little doubt as to what Apple’s smartwatch will be called. French publication Consomac has discovered that Apple has quietly applied for “iWatch” trademarks in many markets around the world, including the U.S., by using a discrete dummy company called Brightflash. You can now buy the Nest Learning Thermostat from Google Play
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Now that Google owns Nest, it’s no surprise that the Nest Learning Thermostat is now being offered in the Google Play Store. The price is the same as everywhere else, $249. If you’re not familiar with the Nest Learning Thermostat, it is the “Mother” of all thermostats. You don’t even have to program this one because it figures out what your habits are based on when you’re home or not. It even knows what the weather is outside, plus, you can even control it from your phone or tablet. It isn’t cheap, but the goal is to save you a lot more than the price of the device over time. To celebrate Earth Day, Google is going to plant a tree for each Nest ordered from the Play…

Screenshots of LG G3 interface leak showing flatter, rounder design
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Screenshots of LG’s latest interface for their upcoming LG G3 have leaked, giving us a sneak peek at what the software will look that, plus confirming the 2k display we’ve been wondering about. The interface looks pretty similar to what we’ve seen before, following the trend of a flatter design that nearly all Android and smartphone OEMs are moving towards. The icons, widgets, app drawer, etc. have all picked up colorful, flat images, and the status bar and navigation bar are keeping KitKat’s transparent look. Aside from the colors, everything has a very rounded look to it, including the contacts in the widgets, plus the quick shortcuts in the status bar. On t…

NVIDIA Shield successor shows up in benchmarks with Tegra K1 CPU and 4 GB of RAM
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
If these benchmarks are to be believed, NVIDIA is working on a follow-up to their portable Android gaming console, the NVIDIA Shield. The benchmark pegs the Shield successor with a Tegra K1 quad-core processor, and a whopping 4 GB of RAM. The K1 already has some extremely impressive benchmarking and multitasking scores, so NVIDIA is definitely going for the absolute fastest components possible in this device. The screen is nothing to write home about, with a resolution of 1440 x 810 (plus the on-screen Android navbar keys) just slightly higher than the original Shield’s 720p screen. Of course, since the processor only has to push a 720p screen instead of a 1080p or …

HTC Dot View Case hack will allow more notifications to work with the flip cover
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
HTC’s Dot View case is very unique, very cool case for the HTC One (M8). The only drawback, of course, is that the case only works with HTC apps, so it won’t show notifications for third-party apps like, say, Twitter. Shen Ye, popular for working with HTC devices, has fixed that. Earlier today, he uploaded a photo of the Dot View case showing a Twitter notification, which looks surprisingly good for something not officially supported from HTC. He said that “Sense already hooks into social networking APIs, it shouldn’t be hard to get DotView to show these notifications.” Guess he was right. Unfortunately, he hasn’t released anything allowing other users to take…

HTC One (M8) mini said to be landing on Verizon
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Verizon has generally been a carrier that is very selective when it comes to carrying certain devices. This has changed over time, though. Last fall, Verizon had many flagships and even carried spinoffs like the HTC One Max. And it looks like Big Red will be continuing to widen its horizons in 2014. Courtesy of @evleaks, we can expect the HTC One (M8) mini to make its way to Verizon at some point this year. Simply put, @evleaks said on Twitter that the “HTC One M8 mini going to Verizon.” People wanting something a little smaller than HTC’s 5-inch stud will be happy to hear the One (M8) mini is expected to still pack some punch, even with a downgraded processor. T-Mobile under CEO John Legere never, ever stops trolling. Now that BlackBerry has decided to completely cut the "Uncarrier" off from selling its devices, 9to5Google points out that T-Mobile has decided to hit back by giving yet another special offer to BlackBerry fans by offering them gift cards of up to $200 if they switch to a new Samsung smartphone such as the Galaxy S5 or the Galaxy Note 3. This isn't a short-term offer, either: Any T-Mobile customers who bought a BlackBerry at any time up until April 3rd this year can take advantage of this deal from now until the end of the year. T-Mobile’s ‘Uncarrier’ attacks don’t stop AT&T from posting strong earnings in Q1 2014
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
AT&T has come under a constant barrage of criticism from rival T-Mobile over the past year but so far it hasn't affected the carrier's bottom line. In its Q1 2014 earnings report released Tuesday, AT&T reported earnings of $0.71 per share on $32.5 billion in revenue, which beat the consensus estimate of $0.70 per share on $32.41 billion in revenue. What's more AT&T also posted a net addition of 625,000 postpaid subscribers on the quarter, which the carrier says represents its best Q1 for net postpaid additions in five years. Including prepaid subscribers, AT&T added more than 1 million net subscribers on the quarter. Continue reading... Via BRG -…

LG G3 specs tweaked in updated Sprint UA profile
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Specs of the LG G3 continue to trickle in, but the problem is there are so many prototypes, that it is hard to predict what direction LG is headed in. The G3 already appeared in Sprint’s UA profile and a benchmark. It was believed to pack a 2460 x 1440 display, 3GB of RAM, 13MP rear camera, 2.1MP front-facing camera, and 32GB of storage. I won’t even mention the processor because there are so many that have been reported. Now the latest UA profile from Sprint shows 2GB of RAM, a 16MP rear camera, and 2.4MP front-facing camera. It also shows a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor that is unlikely to be in the final product. We have seen benchmarks of the device with t…
