FIGHT: Galaxy S5 vs. iPhone 5s -- New York Times says the competition isn't even close
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
Last week, we took an in-depth look at Samsung's new Galaxy S5 smartphone to see how it compared with the HTC One (M8). While the competition was certainly intense, in the end we called HTC's new flagship phone the best Android smartphone in the world. In terms of sales, however, the M8 will never compete with the Galaxy S5. Even HTC knows that. Apple's flagship iPhone 5s is the only smartphone that sits at the top of the food chain alongside the Galaxy S5 when it comes to sales, and The New York Times recently pitted these two leading smartphones against each other to see which one should be called the best smartphone in the world. Interestingly, the newspaper found t…

Shortly after a Samsung representative stated that the Galaxy Note 4 will feature a “new form factor”, the Korean Media reported that the device will be the first smartphone to feature the “Youm” flexible display by Samsung. Well, it could be used to display various notifications such as messages, reminders…

In response to some leaked press renders of the upcoming OnePlus One smartphone, Carl Pei took to the company’s official forums to share some official pre-production images of the user interface. Named CyanogenMod 11S, the OnePlus One will be running a customized version of Cyanogen’s latest operating system. If you are not a fan of the direction OnePlus has gone with the design of the CyanogenMod 11S customizations to the interface, you may note it appears to be a relatively easy step to load an Android Holo based theme. Check out the images that were released below and let us know what you think in the comments. source: OnePlus One Come comment on t…

LG Isai FL in pink leaks alongside some specifications
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

The upcoming LG Isai FL that is bound for Japan has leaked once again. This time, @evleaks has given us a look at it in pink. But the image is not the only piece provided with his tweet. Also included were some specifications. The LCD display, which pushes the bezel-less boundary, is 5.5 inches. Inside will be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz paired with 2GB of RAM. In addition to 32GB of internal storage, LG is including a microSD card slot. While this handset is clearly covered with a skin produced by LG, Android 4.4 KitKat is at its core. And the outside of this device will actually be water-resistant to a degree. As I noted in the last leak for…

Sony Xperia Z2 gets minor OTA update
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

The Xperia Z2, Sony’s flagship smartphone for this half of 2014, is receiving a small over-the-air update. It is still Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but the build has gone from 17.1.A.2.55 to 17.1.A.2.69 with this OTA update. There are some reports that Sony has shipped this build with some Xperia Z2 handsets and those without it will be getting it now. There are not major changes made with this update. It seems like Sony is just using it for bug fixes and performance improvements. Images of the upcoming OnePlus One leak along with the StyleSwap covers
by Guest Alihassan Mahdi- 0 replies
With a few days left to the announcement of the upcoming OnePlus One smartphone, the company revealed a part of the CyanogenMod 11S interface earlier today and now, the press render of the device is finally available for everyone to see. As you can see, the front design of the device is very much similar to the Oppo Find 7, not to forget that OnePlus is founded by one of the former Oppo staff. The design looks beautiful and is pretty much the same as the one shown on the packaging and retail materials leaked earlier. Don’t get too excited though and take it with a pinch of a salt as we can’t guarantee that the renders are quite accurate and real although it looks s…

Moto E is Motorola’s ultra-thin smartphone for Mexico
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Remember the Motorola device that leaked yesterday in with three variants? Those variants belong to the Moto E name. It has leaked again. The device, which is seemingly heading to Mexico (for now), is similar to the affordable Moto G; however, the specifications are slightly better and the price tag reflects that. For roughly 2999 pesos (or $230) without a contract, the Moto E brings a 4.3-inch 720p display with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM powered by a 1900mAh battery. Internal memory integrated is sized at 4GB and a microSD card slot looks like it will be included. Also, a 5MP camera sits on the rear of the device. But, as the headline says, the Mo…

New wireless charging technology can charge up to 40 devices at once
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
Charging technology has developed a lot over the past few years, especially wireless charging technology. In fact, new wireless charging technology developed at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology that can charge a whopping 40 phones at once from up to 5 meters away. The system is called the Dipole Coil Resonant System, and while it’s still in prototype phase, it could make charging cables a thing of the past. It essentially uses 2 long magnetic coils to power devices through inductive charging. Not only could it charge your mobile devices, but it could also power things like your TV. The technology is still a little expensive for consumer use, bu…

Blizzard’s new Warcraft-inspired card game soft-launched on iPad in early April, and was released worldwide earlier this week as a free download. However, in less than a day the game took the App Store by storm, quickly becoming the top application in the Top Free Apps charts in many markets. According to data provided by App Annie, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is now the No. 1 free app in 38 markets where the App Store is available to customers, including the U.S. When looking at iPad games only, the app is No. 1 in 40 countries. Now Android fans can play one of the greatest computer games ever on their tablets
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Old-school RPG fans still get nostalgic when you bring up Baldur's Gate, the classic Bioware D&D-based adventure that set the standard for computer RPGs when it was released all the way back in 1998. In fact, the Balur's Gate series's popularity has been so enduring that studio Beamdog has overhauled it with improved graphics and features while also adding touch controls to make it easy to play on tablets. Although Beamdog released its Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition for the iPad a while ago, the studio has finally gotten around to porting it to Android, and it's now available on the Google Play store for $9.99. Although the iPad version of the overhauled Baldur's Gat…

Ex-Microsoft engineer invents a new machine to help you brew the perfect batch of beer
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Home brewing is rewarding but it's also often fraught with peril — if you don't thoroughly sterilize all of your equipment or if you drop in the yeast while your wort is still hot, it can ruin hours of hard work. Bloomberg Businessweek has written a profile on former Windows engineer Bill Mitchell, who left Microsoft in 2010 to work full-time on PicoBrew, a startup that's dedicated to take away as many potential pain points as possible for home brewers. Verizon LG G2 can now be upgraded manually to KitKat
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Who likes waiting for a carrier to update a device to the latest version of Android? Especially when that carrier is Verizon. Big Red is notoriously slow when it comes to updating devices. And while the LG G2 still does not have the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade being rolled out over-the-air (OTA), it can be done manually through Verizon’s Software Upgrade Assistant. The program, though, can only run through a Windows PC; however, having a Windows partition on a Mac reportedly works. Simply connect your LG G2 to a USB port on a computer and install Verizon’s Software Upgrade Assistant. From there, it should instruct you how to get KitKat running on your G2. Make sure your…

After OnePlus’s Photomania contest, one of the lucky winners took the opportunity to post a set of high resolution photos taken from the OnePlus One camera in different conditions. The images have an impressive amount of detail along with a decent bokeh. They boast a massive resolution of 8160 x 6120 and weigh approximately 10MB in size. It must be noted that the person who shot these pictures wasn’t a professional photographer, he was rather an ordinary person who got lucky by winning the contest and put the device’s camera to test. Take a look below at some of the sample pictures and you’ll find more by going to source link provided at the end. Sour…

Verizon rolls out an update for the HTC One M8
by Guest Alihassan Mahdi- 0 replies
Earlier this month, Sprint released an update for its new HTC One M8 and was the first U.S carrier to do so. Verizon is now following the lead by releasing an update for its HTC One M8 as well carrying the build number 1.55.605.2. The update is a minor one that fixes bugs and improves performance, improves Bluetooth connectivity, brings new copy/paste feature to the Gallery and much more. However, unlike Sprint’s update, Verizon’s update lacks HTC M8’s extreme power saving mode. Here’s the complete changelog of Verizon’s update: ERI Update to remove the roaming indicator icon displayed on some HTC One M8 devices(Out of Box) Resolved issue related to webpage and…

Official CyanogenMod Nightlies support has arrived for the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7″ and 8.9″. Currently the builds show up as experimental, but regular nightlies are set to be released starting today. These ROMs are running CyanogenMod 11. As is the usual case with ROMs on Android, users should exercise extreme caution. Sometimes these files aren’t stable, although sometimes they are. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/e956280b03af83bb245541c930c09035.png One of the problems with space travel is how wasteful it is — the rockets that help propel space shuttles into the atmosphere fall off once they reach a certain height and are often completely unsalvageable after they crash back down to Earth. However, Tesla CEO Elon Musk's company SpaceX has just posted a new video showing off its Falcon 9 Reusable (F9R) rocket in action and it looks like the team at SpaceX have done some mind-blowing engineering work. As you can see, the video shows the F9R taking off and then hovering 250 meters in the air before slowly descending and then gently landing …

Samsung’s Milk Music streaming service will add premium subscriptions
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
Samsung launched Milk Music last month seemingly out of nowhere, a music streaming service to compete with Pandora, Spotify, Beats Music and countless others already on the market. The draw of Milk Music appeared to be its lack of subscription fees, but an infographic posted on the Samsung Tomorrow blog reveals that the ad-free basic service was only a limited time offer, and a $3.99/month premium service is coming soon. Powered by Slacker, Milk Music already houses more than 13,000,000 songs on its 200+ stations, so if you're a Samsung device owners looking for a slick alternative to the established services, the app is worth downloading while the basic service is still …

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/b277cf58e40e5c5c1ef3640a440aa393.jpg Ten days ago a 3D printer called The Micro started a Kickstarter campaign with the modest goal of raising $50,000 in a month. With 18 days to go, the project has already raised nearly $3 million. The Micro has gained more than 10,000 followers and all of the early production runs of the $199 and $299 versions of the device have sold out. New supporters will have to pick a February 2015 shipment date of pay at least $600 for very early test production runs. Obviously, the frenzy of excitement around The Micro seems to indicate that there is real fascination about the idea of owning a 3D print…

It's taken far too long, but it looks like an update to the latest version of Android on Verizon's Galaxy S4 is finally in sight. Android Geeks obtained a leaked document from one of its readers which points to May 2nd as the launch date for Android 4.4.2 KitKat on the S4, around two months after the roll out began for AT&T and Sprint subscribers.
