Gameloft’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings onto the Play Store
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Gameloft is famous for releasing movie tie-in games for mobile devices, so of course they were tasked with bringing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to the big small screen. The game features a sprawling open-world New York environment, filled with tons of events and missions to complete as Spider-Man. The game even features characters and villains from the Marvel comic book, going beyond what’s seen in the movies. The combat system is also fully fleshed out with tons of fluid animations and combos. This looks to be one of the most technically impressive games that Gameloft has released, offering an experience that rivals a traditional console game. Mobile gaming may not ev…

What you are looking at are some internal components for the upcoming OnePlus One. On the left, however, looks like a display. The image comes from, you guessed it, @evleaks. His rather funny comment attached is “OnePlus One, not quite ready to debut.” That is what it looks like here! Luckily, OnePlus has until next week on Wednesday to get it all together. Over one-third of Galaxy S 5 upgrades were by iPhone users
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
A good measure of how impressive a device is is to count how many users switched to it from another brand of smartphone, such as switching from a Motorola device to an HTC device or from an Apple iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy device. If we’re measuring a device’s merit based on how many users it pulled from another camp, early reports say the Galaxy S 5 is a hit. According to a trade-in website, ComparyMyMobile, about 38% of all Galaxy S 5 upgrades came from iPhone owners. We already knew the S 5 was showing very strong early sales, but being able to pull in so many former iPhone users is an impressive feat. The site saw a 210% rise in trade-ins of the iPhone 4S…

Hulu Plus, Crackle, and Showtime to be added to Amazon Fire TV voice search this summer
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Currently, Amazon’s Fire TV’s unified voice search feature only includes a few content catalogs, limited to Amazon’s own catalog and VEVO’s selection. The feature is great, but to be truly successful, it’s going to need more than two content providers to make it stand out. To fix that, Amazon has announced today that Hulu Plus, Crackle, and Showtime Anytime will be added to the unified voice search feature this summer. The addition of three major content providers is nice, and since it’s happened so quickly, it (hopefully) shows that Amazon is going to work hard to get a ton of partners on board as quickly as possible. Hit the break for the full press release.…

You can see exactly where your Facebook friends are in real time, but only if they let you
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Facebook on Thursday took the wraps off of a new feature that, depending on your perspective, is either incredibly cool or incredibly creepy. For this reason, the company has wisely decided to make this new feature strictly an opt-in affair to avoid completely freaking out users who are sensitive to privacy. Continue reading... by Guest Ben Zigterman- 0 replies

Android users have yet another piece of malware to worry about. PC World points out a technique that is specifically targeting Facebook users who use mobile banking. On computers infected with this trojan, users will see a message when visiting Facebook’s website alerting them that “due to a rising number of attempts in order to gain unlawful access to the personal information of our users and to prevent corrupted page data to spread Facebook administration introduces new extra safety protection system.” Continue reading... Aereo goes on the offensive against broadcasters ahead of SCOTUS hearing
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

In a last effort before its April 22nd hearing, Aereo is defending its service in a “media blitz,” as Re/code calls it, whose purpose is to better inform everyone that its business isn’t infringing on any copyright laws. The company will explain next week to the Supreme Court why its services are legal, in its view, and why they aren’t violating the copyright o broadcasters. Continue reading... New LG L65 appears to be joining the L Series III family
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
A new image has surfaced via Twitter tipster @evleaks of an LG L65 smartphone. Although this model number was not mentioned by LG back in February prior to MWC 2014 when they announced the L Series III model line, it looks like it will be part of that family of devices. According to the leak, the screen size will be 4.3-inches, just a tad smaller than the LG L70 which comes with a 4.5-inch screen. The 5MP camera will match some variants of the L70 and the 1.2GHz processor is right in line with the rest of the L Series III line. The other devices in LG’s most recent L Series all come with Android’s KitKat operating system so we expect the L65 will be equipped similarly.…

Android 4.4.2 KitKat rolling out for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014)
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
An update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) has started to roll out to owners of the devices. The update that is rolling out is for the WiFi-only version although updates for the 3G and 4G LTE models should be following soon. Like other devices, the update primarily brings the improvements that are part of Android 4.4.2 to the devices and is light on Samsung specific updates. One item we are waiting to get reports about is whether Samsung included their Magazine UX. The Magazine UX was introduced this year when Samsung rolled out some newer tablet devices, although Samsung has since backed off that UX and indicated it will work more closely w…

MLB.TV knocks it out of the park with Chromecast support
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies

It’s a little late, but we will give them a pass on this one since they didn’t wait until the All Star Break. Starting today, MLB.TV premium subscribers will now be able to use the MLB.com At Bat app on their phone or tablet and cast Major League Baseball games to their TVs via the Chromecast. This includes both home and away broadcasts that aren’t subject to the normal blackout rules. Unfortunately the Chromecast option will only be available to premium subscribers, so those who don’t subscribe, won’t be able to cast the game of the day. At the time of this post, the app hasn’t been updated, but hopefully it will in time for tonight’s big games. Hit the break for a…

HTC One (M8) Review: The Rolex of smartphones
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Last year, the HTC One (M7) received a ton of praise from just about every media outlet including yours truly. It was simply the best phone on the planet at that time, but as great as it was, HTC watched Samsung and Apple continue to dominate the smartphone market share. HTC still believes that it’s quality that sells phones and that eventually consumers will catch on. They are hoping that internet sites such as this site will continue with the praise, and those that opted for the Galaxy S 4 last year, will finally see the light. There is no denying the beauty of last year’s HTC One and this year’s HTC One (M8), but as the saying goes, “beauty is only skin deep.” There is…

Facebook introduces new Nearby Friends feature for location sharing
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Facebook is introducing a new feature that’s going to make its privacy-conscious users cringe. The new feature, called Nearby Friends, does exactly what it sounds like; it alerts you whenever you’re in the general vicinity of one of your Facebook friends. If you’re going to the movies or going out to eat, you can find out who’s near you to arrange a meet-up. Fortunately, Facebook has some decent security measures in place to keep this from becoming a stalking tool. You can completely turn the feature off, if you so choose, which means you’ll never know when someone is nearby and they’ll never know if you’re nearby. Nearby Friends is also a two-way street of privacy,…

Verizon sends email on customer’s behalf without telling him as part of sleazy PR campaign
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Sleazy astroturf campaigns are nothing new in the corporate world but Verizon may have just taken things to a whole new level. Ars Technica reports that New Jersey's Board of Public Utilities (BPU) recently received hundreds of identically worded emails from different people that all supported Verizon's demands that it be let off the hook for building out broadband infrastructure that it had agreed to build as part of an agreement with the state that dates back to two decades ago. There's a problem, however: Some of the people who supposedly sent emails to the board say they did no such thing. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

One of the biggest surprises of 2013 was Orange is the New Black, a Netflix original series that lacked the star power of House of Cards, but made up for it with incredible writing, performances and an ending that left viewers speechless. After an 11 month hiatus, the prison drama will return to Netflix on June 6th with 13 new episodes, and as usual, all the episodes will be released simultaneously. Netflix debuted the first trailer for season 2 on Thursday, welcoming back a vast majority of the cast from the first season, along with a few new faces. Longtime iPhone devotee heaps praise on the Galaxy S5′s camera
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
iPhone fans are fanatically loyal to their favorite device but they can also give credit where it's due. iMore writer Allyson Kazmucha, who writes obsessively about how to get the most out of your iPhone and iPad, has conducted a very thorough camera shootout involving the iPhone 5s, the Galaxy S5 and the HTC One (M8). While Kazmucha typically found that the One (M8)'s new camera lagged behind the iPhone 5s's camera in terms of quality, she couldn't say the same thing about the Galaxy S5's camera, which she said was in some ways superior to the iPhone 5s's. by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

It looks like Time Warner Cable just simplified the Wi-Fi hotspot once and for all. Gigaom reports that Time Warner enabled Hotspot 2.0 capabilities across its public Wi-Fi network this week, allowing customers to log in a single time and then remain connected any time their devices pick up a signal in the future. The upgraded software has been available to broadband customers since March, but this marks the first large-scale implementation of the software. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Siri is getting a lot of competition from Google Now and Microsoft's Cortana these days, but some young hackers have just made Siri much more useful, even if they did so without Apple's permission. Engadget draws our attention to GoogolPlex, a new hack for Siri developed by a quartet of freshmen at the University of Pennsylvania that lets you use Apple's voice-enabled personal assistant to adjust the temperature on your Nest thermostat or to shuffle through your Spotify playlist. Shazam integration will be built within iOS 8 in a similar manner to Twitter integration, the publication says, which means iPhone and iPad owners won’t have to download a separate app to enable it.
