Android fans, get ready for an AWESOME new app! After iPhone, popular service IFTTT gets ready...
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

After launching on iPhone last summer, and on iPad a few days ago, popular automated task service IFTTT (If This Than That) is getting ready to land on Android as well, with the company currently beta testing its Android application. The company announced the beta program on Google+, Phandroid reports, posting a link to a Google spreadsheet for interested testers. Soon after that, it deleted the Google+ post. The publication has apparently also obtained an APK of the IFTTT Android beta app, although it didn’t release it to the public. It’s not clear when IFTTT for Android will be available in the Google Play Store. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Samsung’s Gear Fit is far more practical after its latest update
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

Samsung went all in on wearables at Mobile World Congress this year, introducing three new models in the Gear lineup: the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit. The Gear Fit was the biggest departure of the bunch, and subsequently the most discussed, but the horizontal orientation of its display left us scratching our heads. Samsung has taken the criticism in stride and released an update which allows users to flip the orientation of the screen to make viewing and swiping more natural on the wrist. It may not be a perfect solution, considering the size of the narrow display, but it's important that consumers have the option to flip the orientation. The Gear Fit launches on Apri…

Video: Galaxy S5’s battery will explode if you hammer it just the right way
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
After seeing the Galaxy S5 dunked in water, ran over by an SUV and dropped from 10 feet, it’s only logical to see more torture tests starring the Samsung flagship device, including an actual hammering test. Video Daily decided to see how the handset would survive tough shocks by actually taking hammer hits against the glass of the handset. Surprisingly, the device stood its ground to the first "small-to-medium" hits, but the display finally gave out. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Back to basics: Samsung bashes the iPad in new Galaxy Tab Pro ads
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

Another Samsung ad, another shot at Apple. Samsung published a new set of advertisements for the latest Galaxy Tab Pro series on Tuesday that mercilessly mocked the iPad for its lack of multiple logins, its lower pixel density and its inability to multitask. A fourth video brings Amazon's Kindle into the mix, highlighting the eBook reader's inadequate app offering. The Galaxy Tab Pro tablets feature 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processors, 2GB of RAM (3GB for the 12.2-inch model), 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution displays, 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front cameras and Android 4.4 KitKat. All four videos can be seen below. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius R…

Buy the HTC One (M8) or Robert Downey Jr. will be possessed with the most foul spirit
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies

For those of you wondering if Robert Downey Jr. was still a spokesman for HTC, wonder no more because HTC just released a 60 second spot featuring him. This is a very simple spot where he basically announces how the HTC walked away with best smartphone of the year at Mobile World Congress for a second year in a row. He tells us that the HTC One (M8) is even better and flaunts his “pre-release” sample. Of course he suggests that you buy the HTC One (M8) because he will defend it with his very life. And if you don’t get one, he seems to think he will be possessed with the most foul spirit. I’m not sure that is an incentive to buy the All New HTC One (M8), but I will let …

HTC M8 Ace shows up in first leaked image
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Last month, we got word that HTC was working on an M8 Ace, but what is it? Since it was mentioned in the same conversation as the M8 Mini, the assumption was that it would be a “Max’ version of the HTC One (M8). Of course it could also be a tablet right? Well the same leaker that told us there is an M8 Ace just posted a picture of the said device. For whatever reason, he blurred out what is on the display so it obviously gives something away. At this point it looks like a phone, not a tablet, but unless you see it next to another device, it’s hard to tell for sure. My money is on this year’s Max. I have a feeling we will see another image soon, so stay tuned. sou…

Functional Project Ara prototype will be finished this month
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Technology Review recently spent some time with the Project Ara development team and it seems like the modular phone has come a very long way. The team’s project leader, Paul Eremenko, says Google is providing the “endoskeleton” for all of the modules users can input. The amount of modules? Eight on the back and two up front. The two on the front will be for a display and a button panel in addition to power and data modules that use MIPI UniPro technology. And modules will not be clicking or snapping in. Magnets hold them into place. The endoskeletons will be available in a few different sizes that match today’s devices. Ther…

by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

As it turns out, it might also be one of the biggest culprits of iPhone battery drain, according to recent findings brought to light by a former Apple Store Genius. The good news, however, is that it is remarkably easy to stop Facebook from eating up your iPhone's battery, and in this post we'll show you how. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Searching on Apple Maps is about to get a lot more reliable
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

The search engine in Apple's iOS Maps definitely leaves much to be desired but 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman reports that the company has made a key move that will make searches on the application much more reliable going forward. One of Gurman's sources says that Apple has recently hired Benoit Dupin, the former vice president of Amazon A9′s Search Technology group, to work for "Apple’s search technology team for Maps, the iTunes Store, and the App Store," which makes sense given his extensive background working in search for Amazon. http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/8e6ef6f37d37fa62b7c4662c612399f5.png The minute Samsung started crowing about the Galaxy S5 being waterproof, you just knew some maniacs would try putting it to the test by swimming with the device. In this particular case, the maniacs in question are the team at TechSmartt who have filmed a video of the Galaxy S5 being dunked underwater for a prolonged period of time and also of the Galaxy S5 being put through a washing machine. Crazy new sale makes Xbox One WAY cheaper than a PS4
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
Microsoft's next-generation Xbox One video game console has been well-received thus far but there's no question that sales have been lagging behind Sony's rival box, the PlayStation 4. A number of industry watchers have suggested that the Xbox One's price, which at $499 is $100 more than the PS4, was one of the main reasons for the console's comparatively weak sales — Sony announced last month that PS4 sales had surpasses 6 million units, while the last number we heard from Microsoft was 3 million units as of the end of 2013. If price is indeed the biggest barrier for the Xbox One, a huge new sale that makes the Xbox One much cheaper than the PS4 could be just what Micros…

With a whole team dedicated solely to the Internet of Things (IoT), Microsoft is planning to get every device you own online, or as Steve Teixeira, Director of Program Management puts it: "A computer in every pot and chicken." At the Build Developers Conference last week, Teixeira spoke at length about Microsoft's innovations in the IoT field, but one unveiling stood out among the rest — bringing Windows Phone compatibility to the dashboard of a car. We've written at length about Google's modular smartphone Project Ara in the past, but substantial updates have been few and far between. With just a week left until the first developers conference for the device, MIT Technology Review has spoken with Paul Eremenko, the project lead, and Ara Knaian (after whom the project was named), who give us a little more context to the modular device and attempting to explain how it fits into a very crowded, competitive market. While the Windows 8.1 update is now available to users, Microsoft is already working on the next major desktop OS release, which could be ready by the end of the year, a Redditor said. However, he deleted his account since hosting an extensive ask-me-anything session on Reddit about Windows Phone 8.1 and upcoming Microsoft plans. Without revealing his identity, he did say he is a 15-year veteran Microsoft employee who’s working inside the operating systems group, with a moderator confirming it during the extensive chat. Three unannounced Samsung smartphones have been shipped to India, we await what they are
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
This is just a little mysterious. Three smartphones that Samsung has yet to announce have been spotted on a shipment heading to India for testing. The model numbers for the three devices are SM-C115L, SM-350F, and SM-Z9005. The first is likely the Galaxy S 5 Zoom as it matches the model number from the GS5 Zoom that leaked a few days ago. The second is believed to be a budget Windows Phone 8.1 device with a 800×540 resolution. Sorry, that ‘F’ does not belong to the premium Galaxy F device from earlier. And the third is a Tizen-powered smartphone that Samsung is readying. It is very likely that only one of them, the Galaxy S 5 Zoom, makes it to the United States. There …

The race to the bottom in the smartphone industry never ends. Samsung has announced a brand new budget device running Android 4.4 KitKat. The Galaxy Ace Style, model number SM-G310HN, runs the latest version of Android with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface on a 4-inch WVGA display. On the back is a 5MP camera and the front features one with 0.3MP. Both dual-SIM and single-SIM variants will be available. Yes, this is the same device that leaked recently. Do not expect to see the Galaxy Ace Style in the United States. This little guy is heading to European countries for 200 to 300 euros (or $275 to $412 in the U.S.). AT&T makes its best offer yet to keep you from cutting the cord
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

http://androidforum.us/data/MetaMirrorCache/51115650744e8a93a47ea3ac99bc900d.jpeg AT&T is now following Comcast and Time Warner Cable by coming out with a low-cost option for subscribing to a basic cable package that will include HBO as a way to lure cord cutters back into the fold. As DSLReports notes, AT&T is offering U-Verse subscribers a basic TV package with HBO and 18Mbps Internet service for just $40 per month over the first year. The usual caveats apply, of course: The service is only $40 per month for the first year and jumps to $70 a month after that. The package also doesn't include HD service, which will set you back by another $10 per month, and it w…
