Motorola’s VP of Product, Punit Soni, has announced on his Google+ page that the Moto X will be launched in India tomorrow for 23999 Indian Rupees (just under $400 USD). Not much more to say here other than it’ll be interesting to see how Motorola will be affected by its recent ownership change from Google to Lenovo. Expect the company to increase its availability to new and emerging markets as time goes on, as Lenovo’s international presence is relatively large compared to the Motorola of yesteryear. Can't wait to get your hands on the new HTC One? According to a press release from UK retailer Carphone Warehouse, you won't have to wait much longer as HTC's upcoming flagship phone will be available to purchase "just minutes after it is officially announced" on March 25th at six locations in London. There is no information from any other retailers, but this could be a sign that the new One will be available in multiple regions as early as next week, despite reports claiming the phone will launch in April. Until we have evidence to the contrary, we'll assume that this is a promotional offer, but keep your eyes on BGR next week as we head to the HTC press conference live …

Amazon faces a surprisingly strong backlash against Prime price hikes
by Guest Ben Zigterman- 0 replies
Amazon is about to raise the price of its Prime subscription service from $79 to $99 per year, and although the increase is likely worth it, Amazon has been trying to prepare its customers for the price hike for the past couple months. In January, Amazon hinted that it may increase the Prime subscription price to as high as $119 per year. With the final price settling at $99 per year, Amazon was hoping its customers who love Amazon Prime would be more amenable to the price increase. It turns out this has not worked out so well. Holy crap -- LG just reinvented the slap bracelet and it's pretty awesome...
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

LG may be working on a new device that can be worn by the user, although it won’t be an Internet-connected smart wearable gadget. Instead, LG may launch a colorful stylus that could be used with smartphones and tablets, and worn on the wrist when not needed. The device, made “for LG Mobile,” looks very much like an old slap bracelet from the 90’s, although it has a stylus tip at one end. @evleaks has obtained an image showing the accessory, but the device does not have a commercial name and it’s not known when it will actually be launched. A market dominated by GameStop is about to see another huge entrant as Walmart is set to launch a used video game purchasing program next week across its nationwide network of 3,100 retail stores. The Wall Street Journal reports that Walmart will begin buying used games next week and will pay gamers anywhere from a few dollars to $35 or more for used titles. Payments will be made in the form of Walmart gift cards that can be used to purchase any products from Walmart stores or the company's website. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

People, what is it going to take for you to finally ditch Windows XP? Microsoft has already sent out plenty of warnings to XP users letting them know support for the platform will end on April 8th. However, if the threat of getting nailed by countless new strains of malware isn't enough to get you to upgrade from XP, Microsoft is now sweetening the offer with $50 worth of free stuff... but the catch is you'll have to buy a new computer with Windows 8.1. by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

We're starting to get the feeling that WhatsApp really is getting some serious blowback from its user base after getting acquired by Facebook because its cofounder has come out with a lengthy statement once again reiterating that nothing will change in terms of user privacy once it's under Facebook's control. Apple quietly tries to fix iPhone 5c flop with new cheaper model
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
As previously rumored, Apple on Tuesday launched a cheaper iPhone 5c model in an attempt to make the colorful iPhone more appealing to the crowds. However, Apple did not make any fuss about the new model, quietly listing it in some of its online stores, with some carrier partners also offering it to their subscribers. The cheaper iPhone 5c model comes with less storage, and will be available in selected markets at first Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Apple discontinues iPad 2, brings back iPad 4 at $399 to replace it
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

In addition to quietly launching an 8GB iPhone 5c model in certain markets, Apple has also modified its iPad lineup replacing the 2011 iPad 2 with the fourth-generation iPad with Retina display (also referred to as the iPad 4). While the 8GB iPhone 5c may not necessarily a big deal, the addition of the iPad 4 to Apple’s lineup is certainly more interesting, offering users that want a cheaper 9.7-inch iPad a much better machine than the three-year old iPad 2. If you want to see how utterly futile it is for companies other than Apple and Samsung to make money selling mobile phones, look no further than the numbers posted by Asymco's Horace Dediu that chart the profit share of smartphone manufacturers for the past six years. According to Dediu, the mobile phone industry generated $215 billion in net operating profits over the past six years and Apple and Samsung combined to devour 87.9% of them. Continue reading... Samsung refuses to let the flip phone die. Over in China, a Samsung-made flip phone with the model number SM-G9098 was certified. And with certification in China comes pictures. So above, you are looking at what the actual device looks like. This flip phone has two displays. The first is the usual one that sits inside and becomes visible when opening the device. The second is on the outside and displays information without having to actually to do anything. Both displays have a 800×480 resolution sized at 3.67 inches. Inside seems to be a quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz with 2GB of RAM. GSM Insider speculates that this is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 based on the cl…

Xiaomi Redmi Note gets confirmed by CEO
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
After being exposed a few days ago, the Redmi Note has been confirmed by the CEO of Xiaomi. The Redmi Note is a budget smartphone with a 5.5-inch 720p display. Don’t take ‘budget’ to seriously, though. The handset has an octa-core processor (MTK6592) clocked at either 1.4GHz or 1.6GHz. Xiaomi’s chief executive offer, Lei Jun, explained that the Redmi Note’s focus would be on performance and battery life. With an octa-core processor combined with a 720p display, Jun sounds like he is making a pretty accurate statement. On Wednesday, March 19, the Redmi Note will be available for pre-order. The pre-order process will be done exclusively through Xiaomi’s very own social n…

Amazon’s set top device could support full PC game streaming
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
When images of a controller linked to Amazon’s rumored set top box device leaked a few days ago, you may have noticed it was very reminiscent of a full blown game controller similar to an Xbox or PlayStation gaming console. That might seem like overkill for Android based games, but it isn’t too much if the games are full game titles like you would find on a gaming console or PC. The latest rumors about Amazon’s device indicate that ability could be part of the package. Sources indicate Amazon’s streaming service could be similar to an offering from OnLive in offering “top-tier games” streamed from Amazon’s servers at 30 fps. OnLive struggled with this model in large pa…

[New Chromecast App] Cast Store for Chromecast is a storefront… just for Chromecast apps
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

One of the newest apps to make some noise in the Play Store is Cast Store for Chromecast. It can be rather difficult to find applications for the Chromecast, so rather than having to sift through the Play Store, Cast Store for Chromecast is a singular place that is exclusive to Chromecast applications. It provides categories from games to media applications and features a suggestion option in case a user is still lost. Also, users can create their very own list of favorite Chromecast apps. It is a handy little app that seems to be very much worth a download. Hit the break for the gallery and download links. Play Store Download Link Come comment o…

Sony halts SIM free Xperia Z2 pre-orders
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies

We see a lot of crazy things in the world of mobile, but one thing you rarely see is pre-orders for a new flagship phone being halted. That’s exactly what has happened with the Sony Xperia Z2. We are talking about the SIM free version that Sony has listed on their website. Before today, you were able to pre-order the phone, but although Sony hasn’t pulled the phone from the site, you can no longer place your pre-order. Now there have been rumors that the Xperia Z2 could suffer a delay. This situation could definitely indicate the rumor is true, or it could be nothing about nothing. We heard earlier today that Samsung is having issues with the production of their camera…

Amazon’s ‘set-top box’ will reportedly be a Chromecast-style dongle
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

It looks like Amazon is taking a page from Google and not Apple with its soon-to-be-announced TV streaming device that reportedly isn't a set-top box but is instead a Chromecast-style dongle. And unnamed sources tell TechCrunch that not only will the new device resemble the Chromecast but that it may also do Google one better by having "support for streaming full PC game titles, and as such might be able to compete with consoles including the Xbox and PlayStation, instead of just Android-powered living room game devices." You HAVE to see this: Designer imagines the stunning 12.9-inch iPad Pro that could have been
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Last week, a report stated that Apple has decided to scrap its efforts to launch a larger "iPad Pro" tablet. The much rumored 12.9-inch iPad tablet was reportedly set to bridge the gap between the iPad Air and Apple's MacBook lineup, but apparently it won't be seeing the light of day anytime soon. Apple fans saddened by the news were left wondering what might have been, and now they have a fairly believable mock-up to cry over. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Dev behind one of 2014′s biggest games explains why building a PS4 exclusive is awesome
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Whether or not you care about the "war" currently taking place between Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One, there is no question that each next-generation video game console has various benefits over the other. Where Microsoft's new Xbox is concerned, the game selection is liekly better in the early days and the console's capabilities are definitely wider thanks to Kinect and Microsoft's many home entertainment features. Of course, Sony's PS4 has the stronger specs and greater appeal for hardcore gamers. Are the benefits afforded by its extra onboard oomph really that significant? According to one big developer, the answer is "yes." Continue reading... …

Another benefit to iOS 7.1: App crashes seem to happen less often
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
We've already taken a look at a lot of the cool new features and fixes Apple has added with iOS 7.1 and now it seems that yet another benefit to the recently released update has cropped up: It apparently lowers the rate of app crashes. Re/code brings us word that mobile app performance management company Crittercism has found that the rate of app crashes for iOS 7.1 so far has been just 1.6%, which is less than the 2.1% app crash rate iOS 7 experienced. Of course, iOS 7.1 has also only been out for a week and there may not be enough of a sample size to firmly conclude that it has fixed a lot of the problems with crashing apps. Nonetheless, Crittercism has found that Apple…

New Mac Pro Boot Camp users now stuck with Windows 8
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
It looks like Apple might have taken Microsoft's recent video to heart after all. MacRumors reports that Apple's support page for Boot Camp has been updated to reflect the fact that the latest Mac Pro will no longer support Windows 7 or any older versions of the operating system. Although all the previous models appear to have retained Windows 7 and Vista support, MacRumors notes that this could be the first sign of future Mac computers shedding support for the aging software altogether. Mac users who depend on Boot Camp might start paying closer attention to those Windows 8 updates from now on. Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Galaxy S 5 camera has a new six-lens optics that Samsung is having trouble producing
by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies
It seems that almost every year, with a new generation of the Galaxy S series, there’s always a story involving Samsung and its struggle with keeping up production. First it started with a fire, that all but destroyed the factory that made the printed circuit boards used in the S5. This time around, Samsung appears to be struggling with the six-lense optics on top of the camera sensor. This new 6-element lense requires fitting into the same camera lens as before. The issue here is the molding of the optics to be precisely centered. As an industry insider put it: “On a thin lens, even the slightest flaw results in a considerable optical distortion. To make pl…

Google Play Games will have multiplayer support in both Android and iOS
by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies

Prior to the start of the Game Developer’s Conference, that starts today and runs through March 21, Google accidentally released a blog post announcing some new features coming to Google Play Games (GPG). The first aspect that’s new for GPG is the fact that players can send in-game items as gifts to other players. This can be done with people in your Google+ circles, or through a player search aspect. On top of that, GPG will feature 18 new categories that will make it easier for gamers to discover new games. Besides those two features, Google is adding better multiplayer support with the ability to send multiplayer invites directly. Google is also addi…
