EXCLUSIVE: This is what the OnePlus One -- 2014's most exciting Android phone -- looks like
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Even though it may be one of the most interesting Android handsets of the year, the OnePlus One has not yet been shown in pictures or videos. The company teased its build quality and design without actually revealing any images of the device, and when it did share a photo of the One with the public, it was covered completely by a competing phone to highlight a particular feature. Now, however, BGR has exclusively obtained an image that is the first to reveal the OnePlus One's design. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

More key iOS 8 details emerge: Changes to Notification Center and Messages
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
9to5Mac's Mark Gurman has been on a roll all week with leaked information on iOS 8 and he continues on Friday by giving us some more details on changes being considered for the Notification Center and Messages. According to Gurman's sources, Apple is considering greatly simplifying the Notification Center in iOS 8 by adding all your missed notifications in with the general pile of notifications. In this way, instead of having three columns in the Notification Center for today's notifications, missed notifications and all notifications, you'll only have two for "Today" and "All." Screenshot taken on LG’s G3 pops up online, hinting at a quad HD screen resolution
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

We’ve been hearing plenty of rumors that LG’s 2014 flagship will sport a quad HD screen, but this latest leak is the best evidence you’ll see for a quad HD that you’ll see outside of an official announcement. A Dutch site reportedly took two screenshots on a G3, showing the lock screen and part of the settings screen. Want to guess what the resolution of those screenshots is? Yep, a 2560 x 1440 screenshot, or the resolution of a quad HD screen. Even though Samsung disappointed the hopeful by launching the Galaxy S 5 with just a 1080p screen, it’s looking very, very likely that LG is going to bring an uber-high-resolution to the market this year. Is that going to be …

Latest version of the Google Play Store is now available to download manually
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Have nothing to do and dislike waiting for updates? Good news. The latest version of the Google Play Store is now available to download. What is included in v4.6.16? First off, you can now install a ton of applications all at once; however, mass removal of apps has been removed. Why Google added one side and got rid of the other is rather odd. Also, due to the recent in-app purchases lawsuit, the Play Store now has a diverse set of three required password options: always, every thirty minutes, or never. Moving on to Settings, which has relocated to the navigation bar in the Play Store. A new checkbox now reads “Add icon to Home screen” rather than saying “Auto-add widg…

Microsoft scraps two-year Xbox contract plans
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
For a while, Microsoft experimented with selling its Xbox consoles the same way many mobile carriers sell smartphones: By offering them at a discount in exchange for signing a two-year service agreement for the Xbox Live Gold online subscription service. The Wall Street Journal reports, however, that Microsoft has quietly killed off its two-year Xbox contract plans for the Xbox 360 and has no plans to ever try them out with the Xbox One. Microsoft spokesperson David Dennis told the Journal that "this program was intended to be a pilot experiment from the start, and Microsoft routinely adjusts the mix of offers available to its customers and this change was simply standard…

Google gives U.K. government ‘special access’ to YouTube
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
National security officials in the United Kingdom will be given "special access" to some key YouTube features by Google, The Irish Times reports. Apparently Google will give officials in the U.K. the ability to raise a "super flag" on videos that they deem dangerous to national security. The Irish Times says that these "super flagger" powers mean that any content that U.K. officials flag will be immediately reviewed for takedown. Additionally, national security officials will have the ability to flag content in bulk so they won't have to flag individual videos to be reviewed on a one-at-a-time basis. Continue reading... The 8GB model of the Motorola smartphone will retail for $149 without a contract and its 16GB counterpart will cost $179. Developer claims Samsung is using a backdoor to access user data, but security expert disagrees
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
If this claim is true, Samsung has some explaining to do. According to the folks that develop Replicant, Samsung has “remote access to data.” Now that is a very large claim to be making. So what do they mean? To do this, Replicant says that Android’s largest hardware manufacturer is utilizing two processors as a backdoor to gain user information. The applications processor handles all of the usual functions; however, the other is for the communication coming to and from the handset. The issue comes from the latter, the baseband/modem processor. Replicant is claiming that this processor uses Samsung’s own software and has the ability to modify a user’s storage and data.…

A new security issue that may affect the privacy of Android device owners who purchased certain Samsung Galaxy models has been found, and apparently patched, by Replicant developers who are working on their own Android OS custom ROM. The modem chip which runs proprietary Samsung code has a backdoor in it that would allow third parties to perform several tasks on the handset, without the consent of unsuspecting users. Even more evidence that the iPhone 5c is a flop across the globe
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Odd though it may seem, selling a significantly less powerful and less appealing smartphone for barely any discount compared to your flagship smartphone isn't a good idea. We have seen countless signs that Apple's iPhone 5c has been a pretty magnificent flop thus far, and now we have one more to add to the growing collection. As shared by Andreessen Horowitz analyst Benedict Evans, the following chart shows iPhone market share on Chinese analytics company Umeng's network within the first six months of each launch: Continue reading...
