Hackers call Mt. Gox CEO a liar, say he still controls ‘stolen’ bitcoin
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
Anonymous hackers on Sunday claimed to have published evidence that Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpeles lied about the theft of more than $500 million worth of bitcoin. According to the hackers, Karpeles still controls all of the cryptocurrency he says was stolen recently in the biggest heist of bitcoin's brief history. Mt. Gox was the world's largest bitcoin exchange until about 850,000 bitcoin were allegedly stolen during a breach, forcing the exchange to shut down and file for bankruptcy protection. According to new claims from anonymous hackers, however, the heist never occurred and Karpeles still controls nearly 1 million bitcoin worth approximately $596 million at Monday's ex…

We're hoping to spend much more time in 2014 than we have in years past showcasing beautifully designed software, and we have a few early efforts under our belt already. Most recently, we highlighted five gorgeous iPhone apps and we also ran a pair of posts covering awesome Android apps that do things the iPhone cannot. As we come across great deals on well-designed apps, however, we'll also bring them to your attention individually — and such is the case with Andrew J Clark's "Numerical." Continue reading... by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

In the wide variety of iPhone 6 concept videos that hit the web on a regular basis, a new clip stands out for potentially showing a next-generation iPhone concept that actually makes sense, considering Apple’s way of doing things. Designer Sam Beckett has imagined an iPhone that’s slightly bigger than the current model in order to accommodate a larger 4.7-inch display. It's also slightly thinner, with the designer including it in a new "iPhone Air" family. But overall, the iPhone Air looks like a phone you’d expect to see from the Cupertino-based company. LG G3 expected to be both waterproof and dustproof
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies

Some of us are required to have our phones on us at all times, so why should we limit the bathtub and the pool as well? In all seriousness, waterproofing technology has become more popularized on devices in the past year, and LG has recognized this. It is now expected that the LG G3 will feature both waterproofing and dustproof capabilities. It took a while for other manufacturers to hop aboard, but Sony had been the only company that was both waterproofing and dustproofing its flagship products for some time now. The Galaxy S 5 was also announced to be waterproof and dustproof at Samsung’s special event two weeks ago. The G3 is also expected to feature fingerpri…

Just last week we showed you leaked info from Zauba, an Indian import site, which receives data on devices being shipped in and out of the country. The previous leak showed a device going by the model number SM-G87oa, which we believe is the Galaxy S 5 mini. Today we have another leak from Zauba, outing a device with the model number SM-G800F. The phone was shipped into India from South Korea for research and development testing, and according to the above data table, it’s valued at 31,790 INR ($520 USD). The model number is a lower number than the SM-G900F (the Galaxy S 5) so it’s expected that this device is the Galaxy S 5 Neo. Expect more information on the de…

by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies

Google SVP Sundar Pichai today spoke at the SXSW conference, explaining that Google will be releasing an SDK that will make it easier for companies to create Android run wearable devices. While we don’t yet know if Google is itself planning any wearable devices, Pichai mantioned that Google was thinking of wearables on a “platform level”. Pichai also told us that he sees a parallel between the evolution of the smartphone ecosystem and the wearable ecosystem, saying that while smartphones are becoming small computers, wearables are becoming sensor hubs. With the SDK, Google hopes to standardize how those sensors relay information to Android devices, which should hopeful…

Pantech Vega Iron 2 to be released in May, compete with other flagships
by Guest Harrison Kaminsky- 0 replies
The South Korean mobile phone market is already pretty saturated, and the fact that a company like Pantech has been able to survive while competing with both LG and Samsung is an amazing accomplishment. But to keep itself relevant, continuing to develop new devices is key. The Vega Iron 2, the successor to Pantech’s flagship from last year, will be released in May to compete with the Galaxy S 5. Rumors suggest that the screen size will be bigger than its 5-inch predecessor— it’s not expected that the phone will become a phablet, though. The success of the design will rest in the completely metal chassis and a rumored fingerprint scanner. Hit us up in the comments…

LG D850 said to be heading to AT&T, is this their LG G3?
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Earlier today, @evleaks graced us with a piece of information that should start up some chatter about an upcoming LG device. An unidentified device, with the model number LG D850, is heading to AT&T at some point in the future. What is this device? More likely than not it is the LG G3, which is rumored for a June release. He provides a little background by saying “D800 was G2, D820 was Nexus 5, and D830 was G Pro 2.” It would make sense that this is the G3 as it is right in line with what LG is projected to have coming next. And this morning, a Verizon device with the model number LG VS985 leaked earlier today. The LG G2′s Verizon model number was LG VS985; therefo…

The All New HTC One with a special flip cover leaks, GPE variant also on the way
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies
Here is a rather large leak for a Saturday afternoon. Courtesy of @evleaks, you are looking at a The All New HTC One’s very own flip cover. What is very interesting about this one is that the flip cover utilizes the holes in it to light and display information. So, for example, the time and weather can be displayed. And I think it is safe to assume that it can do plenty of other things like text and email notifications. It is very unique when compared to Samsung’s as this one does not require a cutout to see a portion of the screen when information needs to be displayed. The other end of this leak involves the device having a Google Play Edition. Just like the HTC One,…

BLOCKS aiming to launch modular smartwatch by 2015
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

A new company called BLOCKS is looking to jump into the increasingly competitive smartwatch market to compete with offerings from Sony, Samsung, and eventually Google and Apple. Taking a cue from Google’s own Project Ara, BLOCKS wants to differentiate their smartwatch by making it completely modular and customizable. The smartwatch is still in the prototype phase, but if everything goes well you’ll be able to change nearly everything about the device, from screen size to color to what apps come preinstalled. There’s also a plan for third parties to design modules specific to whatever needs they may have, which sounds like a fantastic selling point. Unfortunate…

by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

comScore has released their numbers for smartphone market share in the US for January 2014, and the numbers are fairly predictable. Android commanded a majority of the market, accounting for 51.7% of all US smartphones, dipping half a percent from October last year. BlackBerry also fell half a percent point, while Apple pulled up 1% due to Android and BB’s small decline. Android still sat a full 10% ahead of Apple as of January, while Microsoft’s Windows Phone claimed a small 3.2% in third place. As far as device manufacturers go, Samsung accounted for 26.7% of smartphones in the US, second to Apple’s roughly 40% but still well above every other Android OEM. HTC u…
