The device would let users choose between tablet and laptop mode, with the screen bending at 90 degrees. However, details about such a product aren’t available yet, and it’s not clear when such a convertible tablet model would ever be launched. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Apple has bold plans for its iPad Smart Cover
by Guest Ben Zigterman- 0 replies
Since 2011, Apple has been selling Smart Covers for its line of iPads. While they cleverly lock and unlock the iPad, they have not evolved much from their original incarnation. This could be fine, except that the competition is constantly showing how much more can be done with tablet accessories. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

WhatsApp could have sold for even more than $19 billion
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Facebook stunned the tech world this week when it announced that it was paying $16 billion up front along with $3 billion in vested payments to buy WhatsApp, the incredibly popular messaging app that has 450 million users. We'd already read reports suggesting that Google was willing to pay up to $10 billion for WhatsApp but now The Information's Amir Efrati and Jessica Lessin report that Google was actually willing to beat Facebook's offer for the company, meaning that WhatsApp could have potentially been worth even more than the $19 billion that Facebook is shelling out to buy it. New images of Huawei MediaPad X1 pop up just ahead of MWC 2014
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
A couple days ago we reported on some images of Huawei’s MediaPad X1 7-inch tablet as it made its way through the Chinese regulatory process. Huawei appears to be targeting the Nexus 7 tablet with this new device, although it is still not clear which markets will have access to the device. Ahead of MWC 2014, some more images have surfaced of the device giving us a better look. One of the images shows the screen displaying a dialer pad and the lock screen displays a small phone icon indicating a call was made or received. This supports the suggestion that the device would come with support for phone service. As for wireless data, we still do not know know whether it wil…

How to use Chromecast ‘Ready to Cast’ wallpapers on your phone, tablet, or desktop
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
The Chromecast is one cool device, but one of the more underrated things that it does is display some really awesome photographs as wallpapers. Google takes images from the some of the greatest photographers and displays them whenever your Chromecast is idle as in “Ready to Cast.” Wouldn’t it be cool to utilize these wallpapers on your phone, tablet, or even your desktop? Well you can and it’s really easy. Many people have posted various live feeds that the Chromecast uses to grab the wallpaper images, but the problem with that is the majority of them are 720p (1280 x 720). What you really want is the full resolution, and of course, without any writing on them. Thank…

Samsung will show off bendable tablet behind closed doors at MWC this year
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Samsung will very likely show off a bendable tablet design at MWC this year, but don’t expect to see it out in the open. The Korean media says Samsung has a prototype ready to show off this year, but only to a select group of people behind closed doors. The tablet will reportedly be able to bend at a 90 degree angle to function similarly to a laptop, as seen in the figure above. There’s a lot we don’t know about this device, especially since there haven’t really been any leaks from Samsung about it. We do know that Samsung is in a race with LG to put flexible screens on any and every device, though, so a bendable tablet makes perfect sense. Hopefully after MWC blows…

The All New HTC One passes through FCC, one step closer to an official announcement
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
HTC’s One successor has been leaking like crazy these past few days, and now we’re seeing certification from the FCC, one of the last pieces of the puzzle. The M8 has gone through the FCC approval process, and the design of the phone was in clear view. It matches up with the slick rounded corners that we’ve been seeing on all of the other leaks from the device. This particular model supports AT&T bands, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and WiFi, so there’s nothing particularly interesting in the specs. You should expect to see other carrier models get approved in the coming weeks leading up to HTC’s official announcement. source: FCC via: Engadget Come co…

The next generation of smartphones is here: Google’s Project Tango
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
When Google sold Motorola to Lenovo, they kept the Advanced Technology and Projects group, which we know was working on Project Ara. Well, something else has been in the cooker as well: Google’s Project Tango. According to the leader of Project Tango, Johnny Lee, it is something they “have been working quietly on over the past year.” Project Tango is a very unique smartphone that uses a motion tracking camera and depth sensor that can detect the 3D world that we live in. It can learn the dimensions of rooms and spaces, including your entire house. Can you say augmented reality? Imagine playing a game in your own home with other characters. It’s also perfect for directi…

by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

If you live in a major metropolitan area, accessing public Wi-Fi is likely part of your daily routine. The only problem with public Wi-Fi is the exhaustive, unavoidable login process, but one of the biggest tech companies in the world is trying to simplify the process with a new app. Engadget reports that Google is working on an app for Android and iOS devices that will "automatically authenticate and connect to its free hotspots inside Starbucks stores or wherever they are available." BBM could be worth $2.5 billion to BlackBerry
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
We're now starting to get a good idea of how much BlackBerry Messenger could be worth to BlackBerry. Now that WhatsApp has been bought for $16 billion and Viber has been bought for $900 million, we've got a basic floor and ceiling for BBM's value, although the messaging service is probably much closer to Viber than it is to WhatsApp. Continue reading... Now, it looks like Samsung is ready to roll out the software to more Galaxy S4 owners. Yet another color for the All New One leaks
by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies
With the recent flood of leaks involving the second generation HTC One we’ve seen just about eveything there is to see regarding the device. The most recent leaks have shown us just what the device will look like in different colors. So far, we’ve seen what the All New One looks like in both gold and a dark gray. Today we get a peak at the silver version. It looks much like the HTC One of today, but with black accent lines rather than white ones. The dual camera is there and we see the somewhat updated Blinkfeed. The black HTC bar is there, sadly, but hey, that’s branding for you. It could be a lot worse… it could be the Verizon logo right there starring at you. …

Kids Mode to be introduced to Samsung Galaxy S5
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
While Windows Phone isn’t really ahead of the game when it comes to a lot of features, one of the most useful features that it does have is Kid’s Corner. This feature allows parents to create a dedicated and safe environment for children. It seems that Samsung is looking to add a similar feature to their upcoming Galaxy S5. The way it will work is that a cartoon character, Kroko, will be the guide. You’ll start off by creating a PIN which you’ll use to control Kids Mode. Then you can customize settings like the apps that can be used and who your child can contact. You can even set a timer to limit the time that your child spends on the device. The feature will als…

HTC planning on a carrier sneak preview of its upcoming smartwatches
by Guest Jack Holt- 0 replies

Even with the All New HTC One hogging most of the HTC news spotlight, the Taiwanese company has other projects its working on. The all new Nexus tablet aside, the company is working on moving its way into the wearables market. Right now, it’s rumored that the company is working on three different smartwatches, with one of them possibly being shown off next week at MWC. However, the kicker is that the only folks that get to see the watch next week are those from various mobile carriers. A prototype, based on Qualcomm’s Toq smartwatch, will be shown to various carriers. Besides that, HTC is working on both a music playing bracelet and a smartwatch that puts Google Now at…

Android 4.4.2 begins rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S4
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
Ahead of the release of Samsung‘s next flagship model, the Galaxy S5, Samsung has begun rolling out Android 4.4.2 to the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500). This will bring a number of small UI changes such as the white notifications icons instead of the multi-color that Samsung has been using on their devices. The phone will also get a performance boost, and will now get better benchmark scores. The lock screen has also been changed, and users can now access the camera straight from the lock screen. While playing music, the album art will also now be showed in full screen on the lock screen. Other Android 4.4.2 changes include wireless printing, a number of new emojis, and so on…

by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

T-Mobile wants peace with BlackBerry fans and BlackBerry itself, which were both enraged in recent days by the carrier’s recent marketing push that offered a cheaper iPhone upgrade for subscribers ditching their old BlackBerry devices. Following the duel between BlackBerry CEO John Chen and T-Mobile’s chief John Legere, the carrier said that "the passion we’ve seen from the BlackBerry Loyal over the past couple days has been pretty amazing" and that it heard fans. Thus, T-Mobile has quickly adapted its special upgrade plan created for BlackBerry's faithful buyers, to better meet their needs. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Galaxy S5 release confirmed for mid-March
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Samsung is going to unveil the Galaxy S5 very soon but it will still be weeks before we see it on the shelves. An unnamed Samsung executive tells GSMArena that Samsung will officially release the Galaxy S5 three weeks from now, which would give it a release date of around March 13th. This lines up with other reports we've read suggesting that the Galaxy S5 would be released in late March, although GSMArena's report suggests you'll be able to get it a week or so earlier than we'd originally thought. by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

HTC is facing quite a challenge in 2014. Last year, it released the best Android phone the world has ever seen, but it still wasn't enough to combat Samsung's massive marketing budget. Now, in 2014, it looks like the company is planning an iterative update that adds better specs and some new features, possibly including the ability to capture 3D photos and videos. From the look of things though, it will largely be the same phone. Rumors suggest it may even have almost the same name. Will consumers bite this time around? Continue reading... A Google Now smartwatch may be in the works, Bloomberg reveals, but surprisingly, Google isn’t developing it. The publication has learned that the Google Now smartwatch is one of the three wearable concepts HTC is working on, with one of them to be privately shown to carriers at MWC 2014. However, these products won’t be available on display to regular visitors of the popular Barcelona trade show. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report
