by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
Last week, the upcoming Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503) showed up in its first video, and another one was just released showing off more details. This video emphasizes the camera and main interface. The Z2 is going to be a beast in terms of the camera as it can shoot 4K video, will include Timeshift effects such as slo-mo and high-speed, shoot cinemagraphs, duplicate moving objects, simulate bokeh, and scan documents to JPG/PDF. You will also see a lot of the new features from the user interface, which include a new “simple” homscreen that shows bigger icons and larger text. You will also see some motion gestures, custom sound settings, and so much more. Hit the break for t…

New press image for Nokia X shows up
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
With MWC 2014 only a week away, a new leaked image purporting to show an advertising image for the Nokia X has surfaced. Twitter tipster @evleaks posted the image earlier today. The image prominently features the Nokia X name and shows a three-wide trail of devices curving off into the distance. The devices in the rendering appear to be similar to what was shown in a leaked image that @evleaks posted last month when the Nokia X name was first discovered. The Nokia X is supposedly the actual name for the device that had been known as the Nokia Normandy while in development. Whatever the name ends up being, the device is alleged to be Nokia’s entry into the Android smartpho…

Mystery Motorola device shows up at FCC
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
An unknown Motorola device recently cleared the FCC with AT&T LTE bands, but what is it exactly? Considering the battery number (SNN5932A) matches what is in the Moto G, we might be looking at a Moto G with LTE capability. If there is one chief complaint with the Moto G, it’s the lack of LTE, but considering it’s target audience, it really isn’t a big deal. Right now, the Moto G isn’t on AT&T, and when you consider the battery size of 2,000mAh, this has to be a budget phone. We don’t know of any other budget phones that Motorola is working on so a Moto G is a pretty good bet. I guess we will have to wait and see, but assuming this is an LTE version of the Mot…

The average Android phone now costs about half that of an iPhone
by Guest Macky Evangelista- 0 replies
In news that probably doesn’t surprise many, the average price of an Android device is now about half that of an iPhone, and the gap is only widening. One thing that bugs me is that iPhone enthusiasts always claim that Android are for people that can’t afford iPhone’s. Yes, there are a plethora of cheap Android devices, and you can thank companies like Samsung that flood the market with low-end Android devices, but having the option to purchase one is never a bad thing. Android certainly has its fair share of top-tier and expensive devices, but at the same time you can get great cheap devices for a fraction of the price of a high-end Android phone or even an iPhone. …

New image of HTC Desire 8 suggests announcement next week
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
A few days ago an image leaked of a new HTC device called the HTC Desire 8. The large smartphone is supposed to be HTC’s answer for the mid-range market. Although specs have not yet leaked for the device, it appears to have a 5.5-inch display, a 13MP camera, and will be dual-sim capable. Maybe the most interesting bit gleaned from the leaks so far is that HTC is planning to use on-screen buttons for the new device. A couple new images related to the device surfaced on Chinese site Weibo thanks to none other than HTC’s official account on the service. The first image seems to confirm the HTC Desire 8 name and includes the rendering that was spotted earlier. The second i…

In the first clip, we saw some of the KitKat-skinned smartphone's features, from the Walkman functionality to the quick-start camera. In the new video, we get a much better look at the actual hardware, along with an extensive showcase of the software. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Samsung is very sensitive about being called a copycat
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
After getting thumped by Apple for alleged patent infringement, Samsung has become more determined than ever to shed its copycat image. That's why Samsung has now filed a countersuit against British manufacturer Dyson for allegedly "hurting Samsung's corporate image" when it accused Samsung of ripping off Dyson's vacuum cleaner designs, The Korea Times reports. Samsung has decided to file the lawsuit even though Dyson voluntarily decided to drop its own litigation against Samsung weeks ago. Even so, Samsung's executives are still hopping mad that their company has once again been portrayed as a follower especially at a time when they're doing their best to make sure Samsu…

The streaming platform popular enough to beat Facebook during peak traffic hours is currently playing host to one of the most ridiculous and entertaining events in its relatively short history. As of this writing, 72,000 Twitch viewers are currently participating in an interactive playthrough of the first Gameboy Pokemon game by entering commands into chat. TwitchPlaysPokemon, as the channel is called, has been running for nearly 5 straight days, increasing its traffic to the point of dominating the top spot on the site consistently. Continue reading... Sony is expected to unveil new products at the annual Mobile World Congress trade show on the same day Samsung introduces the highly anticipated Galaxy S5, although it’s not clear what new products that the company will announce. Sony is rumored to have both a flagship smartphone and a tablet in the works, although it's only the Xperia Z2 handset that appeared in most leaks so far. However, @evleaks has discovered more details about the new tablet as well, which should succeed last year’s Xperia Tablet Z. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Huawei posted a video on YouTube teasing some of the products it will unveil at the upcoming MWC 2014 show in Barcelona, Spain, while taking shots at the biggest names in the mobile world, Apple and Samsung. In the video, a Siri-like assistant is telling an iPhone owner about the new mobile devices coming at MWC including a “new tablet with a beautiful slim design,” that will offer a “huge battery” capable of offering you “days of use.” Furthermore, there’s “a smartphone with an amazing front camera,” and “a new multimedia tablet that gives the ultimate entertainment experience” on the way. by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Google chairman Eric Schmidt has a whoooole lot of money. And when people with a whooooole lot of money get bored, they buy new houses. The latest addition to Schmidt's growing collection is the $22 million beauty pictured above, and Forbes dug through the MLS website to pull out the few available photos of the Hollywood home. Schmidt's new 1.3-acre property is conveniently located mere steps away from Hugh Hefner’s famed Playboy Mansion, and the Google chairman can also now count Interscope Records founder Jimmy Iovine and Petra Ecclestone, current owner of the Aaron Spelling Manor, as neighbors. Schmidt is currently No. 49 on the Forbes 400 with a net worth of approxima…

HTC’s answer to the Galaxy S5 revealed in leaked pics
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
We now know exactly what HTC's followup to the HTC One will look like. @HTCFamily_RU has posted a pair of leaked pictures showing the real HTC M8, the next flagship phone that HTC will unveil in the hopes of taking on Samsung and its Galaxy S5. The new pictures look much the same as the leaked HTC M8 pictures we saw last week, as the front of the device in both pictures features light sensors that have been shifted over to the right-hand side of the phone next to the front-facing camera. The back of the new HTC flagship phone looks slightly more rounded than the original HTC One and features dual rear-facing cameras. Other reported specs for the device include a 5-inch 10…

Titanfall preview: Is this the final nail in the coffin for the single-player FPS?
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
Having spent more hours than I'd like to admit with the Titanfall beta this weekend, I can honestly say that I'm no longer concerned about whether or not a single-player campaign is featured in my first-person shooters. The developers at Respawn Entertainment decided early on that Titanfall would be a multiplayer-only experience, and in doing so have effectively embarrassed all the other game makers that have their fingers in too many pies. Google wants to do away with Android fragmentation once and for all
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

As Android began its domination of the smartphone market, Google was forced to make a very difficult sacrifice. By offering hundreds of unique phones to consumers from dozens of manufacturers across the globe, Google's operating system quickly became fragmented. Many new devices are still launching with outdated software, but if the leaked memo picked up by Mobile Bloom is legitimate, Google might be ready to quash fragmentation for all future devices. by Guest Macky Evangelista- 0 replies

According to media in Korea, LG is planning on making a 2-day visit to Google’s HQ here in California in hopes to continue their partnership. Over the past few years, LG and Google have collaborated to create some wonderful devices that first started with the Nexus 4. In this meeting, LG is coming with no shortage of ammunition as they plan on bringing in their LG Display, LG Chem, LG Electronics and LG Innotek branches. LG hopes that they can woe Google over with their new innovations for this year and possibly continue to make devices (hopefully Nexus). There have been rumors that Google is planning on releasing an 8″ tablet (Nexus 8?) sometime this year, and with …

by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies

NVIDIA’s next generation of mobile processor, the K1, has shown up in the AnTuTu Benchmark site powering a new NVIDIA TegraNote tablet device. The K1 packs 192 gpu cores with CUDA technology, which NVIDIA says will make it capable of outperforming an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3. In the data submitted to AnTuTu, this particular device was only running at up to 2.1GHz, slightly slower than the projected 2.3GHz speed NVIDIA is expected to use for production devices that utilize the quad-core chip. The TegraNote P1761 is listed as having a 1920×1200 resolution screen powered by 2GB of RAM operating Android 4.4.2. In some comparison data, the tested device lands in between th…

Samsung patents a stylus with a microphone and a speaker
by Guest Macky Evangelista- 0 replies
Recently published by the USPTO, Samsung has filed two patents that will potentially improve their S-Pen in the near future with a microphone and speaker built right in. The idea is that the user will be able to make phone calls and perform various voice commands straight through the S-Pen. Comments from Samsung themselves states that they’re hoping the Pen will become an extension of the device and allow people to “substitute the pen for a wireless headset,” even claiming that users can “mount the pen to a shirt pocket or the like and communicate in a phone call using the portable terminal as a base.” What do you guys think about this feature if it gets added into the…

GALAXY S5 LEAK: Samsung Galaxy S5 confirmed to have Retina-crushing 2K display
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
Apple might have started the smartphone display resolution war when it debuted the iPhone 4 back in 2010, but the company really hasn't fired any new shots since then. Of course, Apple did carry the battle over to tablets with the third-generation iPad and to laptops with the Retina MacBook, but the Retina display on Apple's seventh-generation iPhone 5s features the same pixel density as it did on the fourth-generation iPhone 4. Meanwhile, Android smartphone makers have managed to continually pack more and more pixels into their panels, and Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S5 smartphone will apparently be the king of them all when it debuts next week. Apple's 2014 and 2015 iPad roadmap REVEALED by solid source who's almost never wrong!
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

While many reports claim that Apple will launch a bigger 12.9-inch iPad model this year, also called “iPad Pro,” MacRumors reveals that KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote in a recent note to investors that Apple will refresh only its iPad Air line this year, with a new iPad Air model featuring an A8 processor and a Touch ID fingerprint sensor expected to arrive in late Q3 2014. The Retina iPad mini refresh will arrive only next year, alongside the bigger tablet that should launch early in 2015. Even if the iPad Pro does arrive late this year, it’ll hardly be available for purchase. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

One mind-blowing fact shows you how much Comcast gouges its customers
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

In addition to figuring out ways to shaft cord cutters, Comcast also seems to love thinking of new ways to gouge its customers by vastly overcharging for things it should be offering for free, such as HD service for basic network television channels. Writing in The New Yorker, Tim Wu similarly makes note of Comcast's enthusiasm for slapping customers with fees and notes the following mind-blowing fact: "Netflix's fee of $7.95 a month is what Comcast charges you to lease a modem." Previews show how much better Metal Gear Solid V will look on PS4 compared to Xbox One
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies
Sony's PlayStation 4 took an early lead in the new generation of video game consoles when Sony managed to sell 4.2 million consoles in 2013 compared to 3 million Xbox One units sold by Microsoft. Sales aside, however, there are also clear differences between the two boxes in terms of specs. While the PlayStation 4 packs more power on the shelf, Microsoft has an army of cloud servers standing by to offload some of the processing as long as developers take advantage of it. While there are clear benefits to each approach, the games are really all that matters in the end — and it looks like Xbox One owners just got somewhat bad news where Konami's highly anticipated title "Me…

The company that might finally topple Apple isn't the company you'd expect
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

When asked to name Apple's top competition, most would likely rattle off names like Google, Samsung and Microsoft — massive, established technology giants that compete in numerous core areas of Apple's business. These huge companies constantly play off of each other and always look to one-up rivals as they compete for consumer and enterprise business. According to one report, however, Apple should be paying particular attention to one company that most people might not have even considered to be a threat. Continue reading...
