by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

The latest Android version distribution numbers are in, and Nougat is keeping up its quick climb to more and more devices. Last month, it accounted for less than 3% of devices currently in the wild, but now it’s sitting just a hair below 5%. The actual number is 4.9%, but we’ll round up. It gained […] Come comment on this article: Android Distribution April 2017: Nougat almost breaks 5% Visit TalkAndroid News via TalkAndroid

A massive asteroid is going to zip past Earth later this month
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
The universe never lets us here on Earth go very long before reminding us that we're really just a random dice roll away from global catastrophe. The next timely reminder will happen on April 19th when asteroid 2014 JO25 will cruise by our planet at a relatively safe distance of roughly 1.1 million miles. That distance, while relatively comfortable, is still pretty close, especially when you realize how large the rock actually is. Continue reading... iPhone 8 said to include Smart Connector for wireless charging and VR/AR functionality
by Guest Yoni Heisler- 0 replies

According to a new report from the Hebrew-language blog The Verifier (via 9to5Mac), Apple's next-gen iPhone 8 will include a Smart Connector designed to assist with wireless charging and, interestingly enough, some VR/AR features as well. While Apple hasn't yet made a play in the VR/AR space, it's no secret that Tim Cook is especially excited about the potential for augmented reality, even going so far as to claim that the technology may be as impactful as the smartphone. This might be the best reason to always buy an iPhone
by Guest Chris Mills- 0 replies
At this point, I don't think anyone is ever going to settle the argument over what smartphone is best. iPhones are great, Samsung's Galaxy devices are excellent when not bursting into flames, and you could even make an argument for a bunch of other Android phones to be "the best." But the best combination of hardware and software isn't always the thing you should buy. I've written before about how I reliably upgrade to a new iPhone for $125 every year, without any special deals or promos or financing. It relies on the very slow depreciation of iPhones compared to all other devices. I've always found that iPhones hold better value than other smartphones, but it's been d…

Look at all these iPhone accessories on sale on Amazon right now
by Guest Maren Estrada- 0 replies
The name "iSPECLE" doesn't exactly roll of the tongue, but it's a reasonably well-known brand among iPhone owners who shop on Amazon. What's it known for? In a nutshell, the company makes accessories that are the same quality as many of the big-name brands out there, but it sells them at a fraction of the cost. Indeed, iSPECLE cases, screen protectors, Lightning cables and more are always affordable on Amazon, but every once in a while a sale comes along and slashes those already-low prices even lower. Such is the case right now, thanks to a special limited-time sale on Amazon that shaves as much as 40% off the company's already discounted prices. You'll find all six i…

Security researcher unearths serious iOS and Android Wi-Fi exploit
by Guest Yoni Heisler- 0 replies
Security researcher Gal Beniamini -- who works for Google's Project Zero -- recently unearthed a serious vulnerability affecting the Wi-Fi chipsets used in both iOS and Android devices. Detailing the proof-of-concept attack at length, Beniamini explains in an interesting blogpost how an attacker within range on a shared Wi-Fi network could potentially execute arbitrary code on a targeted device. By chaining together a pair of exploits, Beniamini managed to demonstrate a "full device takeover by Wi-Fi proximity alone, requiring no user interaction." The attack was deemed to be serious enough that Apple wasted no time in patching up the vulnerability, having released iOS…

Scientist studying acoustic vibrations decides to make life hell for some Lego dudes
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies

You really have to hand it to scientists; even when they're working with extremely complex and confusing theories and technologies they always seem to find a way to make it fun. Case in point, Brigham Young's physics professor Brian Anderson's amazing demonstration of how acoustic vibrations can be targeted at very specific locations to perform a variety of important medical and engineering tasks, made much more entertaining with the inclusion of some very unfortunate Lego figurines.
