Nintendo Switch games load fastest from internal storage
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

Unlike the PS4, Xbox One and even the Wii U, the Switch uses cartridges instead of discs. This came as something of a surprise when it was revealed, but as we learned more about the console itself, it started to make more sense. After all, the Switch is a portable console as much as it is a home console, and no one wants to walk around with a binder full of Blu-rays when they take their Switch with them on a trip. In theory, along with being more portable-friendly, the cartridges would also decrease load times for games, but as Digital Foundry discovered this week, digital Switch games actually appear to be faster. by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

You might not sense it immediately, but Google just made the internet faster. And you won’t have to upgrade computers or internet subscriptions to take advantage of it. What the company did was to develop a new encoder for JPEG files that makes images 35% smaller than they used to be. The smaller the images, of which the web is filled with, the faster websites will load on your machine. Continue reading... In 2016, few mobile tech stories garnered more attention than the Galaxy Note 7's exploding batteries. As you likely remember, Samsung ended up having to recall the Note 7 last year after reports began to spread of the phablet bursting into flames. Samsung knows that this catastrophe is still fresh on many consumers' minds, but based on one recent survey, the company might not have much to worry about. Continue reading... Google Home owners were surprised to find themselves bombarded with audio ads for Disney's upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast remake this week. Space Station astronauts celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with gorgeous night shot of Dublin
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
Here on Earth, most people celebrate St. Patrick's Day by heading down to their local watering hole for a pint of Guinness or maybe a couple glasses of green beer. Up on the International Space Station, however, such a thing just isn't possible, but that doesn't stop them from recognizing Earthen traditions all the same. NASA Commander Shane Kimbrough and ESA pilot Thomas Pesquet took the opportunity to peer down from their perch some 200-odd miles above the surface to catch a glimpse of the city that is probably partying harder than anyone tonight: Dublin, Ireland. Anyone can cut the cord now, thanks to a single device
by Guest Maren Estrada- 0 replies

Cord cutting is easy if you live in a major metropolitan area. Why? Well, set-top boxes like the Roku series and the Amazon Fire TV let you stream TV shows and movies on demand from anywhere in the world, but like network TV is a different story entirely. You could cough up $35 or more each month to stream live TV from a range of new services, but why pay over $400 per year when you can get over the air network TV in full HD 1080p resolution for free? The problem for some people is that they live too far from broadcast towers, so the common indoor 25- and 50-mile antenna just wont cut it. A massive change is coming to the Netflix movie rating system and you might not like it
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Next time you’re going to rate a movie or TV series on Netflix, you won’t be able to give it a number of stars you think it deserves. Instead, you’ll have to choose between a thumbs up (like) or thumbs down (display) option. That also means the star-based ratings will disappear from Netflix, and there’s nothing you can do about it. The change is coming worldwide starting April. Continue reading... Amazon sale gets you 5 iPhone 6 cases for $7

Covering up Apple’s slick iPhone design is unfortunate, but it’s an absolute necessity when you consider how slippery the aluminum on the iPhone is. If you only get one case for your iPhone though, you’re liable to get bored very quickly. After all, the only good thing about using a case on your iPhone (other than protection) is the fact that you can swap it out anytime you want and keep things looking fresh. Here’s a great way to start your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s case collection: from now through the end of the day on Sunday, Amazon is selling a 5-pack of Ace Teah iPhone 6/6s Cases for just $7. Sony surprised the world at the Mobile World Congress a few weeks ago by releasing a flagship device that nobody really saw coming. The Xperia XZ Premium, which won the “Best New Smartphone” title at the show, has many impressive features, including a 960 frames per second (fps) super slow-motion video capture. But Sony won’t be the only company to hit this new milestone, as a new report indicates the Galaxy S8 will have equally impressive slow-mo capabilities. Continue reading... ‘Beauty and the Beast’ review: A dazzling retelling that plays it too safe

With the long-awaited remake of Beauty and the Beast, Disney's slate of live-action adaptations of animated classics is officially in full swing. Does this updated take on the tale as old as time recapture the magic of the original masterpiece? Beauty and the Beast is a dogmatically faithful retelling of its animated predecessor; in fact, it's probably too faithful. Continue reading... Samsung has done the impossible with the Galaxy S8
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

In the smartphone market, Samsung found success not by differentiating and carving its own path, but by taking a page out of Apple's playbook. Or should we say, 132 pages. Apple turned the cell phone industry on its head in 2007 when it released the original iPhone. There was certainly no better company to model its devices and strategy after, and Samsung's sales skyrocketed once it began retooling its devices to look and function more like Apple's smartphones and tablets. Samsung still takes pages out of the Apple playbook from time to time — case in point — but it has truly elevated its game in recent years, with several recent generations of flagship phones that con…
