Watch two jumbo jet captains AirDrop iPhone pictures at 35,000 feet
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

One of the iPhone’s neat tricks is its ability to share content with nearby iOS and macOS devices. This is easily the simplest way to share pictures with friends and family, as long as everyone’s on a compatible device. And it turns out, that if you’re a captain flying your jumbo jet at 35,000 feet, you can AirDrop pics to a captain flying his own massive plane some 1,000 feet above you. Continue reading... The United States is going to miss out on an awesome sight in space on Monday night
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies

August is a big month for skywatchers in the US thanks to the highly anticipated total solar eclipse slated to occur on August 21st. It'll be quite a sight, provided clouds are at a minimum and you manage to look skyward at the right time, but those outside of North America won't get treated to the same show. But those of us lucky enough to be in a good position for the solar eclipse are going to miss out on an entirely different celestial sight this coming Monday night, when a lunar eclipse will give those in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia a reason to stare at the stars. This $16 gadget adds microSD support to any iPhone in seconds

Honestly, we have no idea how so many iPhone users out there live with all of the pop-up messages and errors they get when their storage is near capacity. iCloud backups fail, errors appear when you go to capture a new video… it’s completely unbearable. There are plenty of cloud storage solutions that can help, but some people don’t want to pay for online storage while others don’t trust third-parties to keep their private files safe. Apple will never build an iPhone with expandable memory, but there is a solution out there for anyone who wants to quickly and easily add microSD support to an iPhone. Check out the Lexar microSD To Lightning Reader, you’ll be glad you did. …

Can someone please explain how this ‘crash’ ended in a car standing perfectly upright?
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
There's really nothing funny about car crashes, at least most of the time. They can be devastating, tragic events, but we're willing to call this particular one a very rare exception to that rule. We know almost nothing about the actual incident other than a 19-second video of the aftermath, but that extremely brief glimpse is still more than enough to fill us with many, many questions. For example: how on Earth did a full-sized passenger vehicle end up sitting perfectly straight on its rear end? Continue reading... by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Like every year, we have two types of new iPhone rumors: reports from distinct sources that seem to back each other up, and then the crazy iPhone stories that seem hard to believe. The following story falls into the second category, as it claims Apple may launch two differently sized iPhone 8 versions. Continue reading... A late Friday scoop from Bloomberg and its star Apple reporter, Mark Gurman, suggests that Apple is going to release a cellular version of the Apple Watch before the end of the year. The report -- which features the investigative work of three separate Bloomberg reporters, something that's rare for a tech rumor -- cites "people familiar with the matter" as saying Apple is "planning to release a version of its smartwatch later this year that can connect directly to cellular networks." Hackers behind massive HBO breach did not leak ‘Game of Thrones’ episode 4
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

Early on Friday, we learned that the fourth episode of the current Game of Thrones season leaked online. The leak turned out to be legitimate, and we all assumed it had to be the work of the same hackers behind the recent massive HBO cyber attack. On Monday, the script for the same episode and episodes of other HBO shows leaked online, while subsequent reports told us that as much as 1.5TB of data was stolen during the heist. The hackers, however, are not behind Friday’s leak. Continue reading... Long-range aircraft testing must be an incredibly tiring job. I mean, imagine cruising around in a plane for 17 hours at a time, putting fancy new jet engines to the test and ensuring that they can endure intercontinental flights on a regular basis. Boeing's glorious 787 Dreamliner needed to do just that, equipped with a pair of shiny Rolls-Royce engines which needed to put through their paces. So, how do you make a day-long flight interesting? By drawing a huge picture with your flight path, of course! Continue reading... Before Apple accidentally flooded the internet with iPhone 8 data via a HomePod firmware leak, the Galaxy Note 8 was dominating headlines. Having been the subject of countless leaks itself, the Note 8 will finally see the light of day on August 23rd in NYC, where Samsung will host an Unpacked event to reveal the phone. But now, with just weeks left to go until the event, we suddenly find ourselves distracted by a stunning Galaxy S9 concept that has us looking ahead to 2018. Continue reading... Verizon is rolling out real-world gigabit LTE in the coming months, report says
by Guest Chris Mills- 0 replies
Yesterday, we reported on a real-world trial that Verizon conducted in Florida, which used a mix of licensed and unlicensed spectrum to achieve gigabit speeds over existing LTE technology. Thanks to an RCR Wireless interview with Mike Haberman, Verizon's VP of network support, we now know that the same gigabit technology is going to be popping up on cell sites "all across the country." Haberman said that hardware upgrades would be happening over the next couple of months, although it's likely going to be a little longer than that until you see a difference on your smartphone. In a bizarre turn of events, firmware from Apple's forthcoming HomePod speaker has provided us with more concrete information about the iPhone 8 than any other source to date. Following a massive security breach at HBO earlier this week, the fourth episode of Game of Thrones season 7 has leaked online in full. In a statement earlier this week, the network confirmed that it had been the victim of a hacking incident "which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information." Scripts of upcoming shows and full episodes of Ballers and Room 104 made their way online, with the hackers promising that more leaks would be "coming soon." On Friday, the hackers seemingly kept their word by sharing the fourth episode of the new season of Game of Thrones (set to air on the network this Sunday) on the Freefolk subreddit.
