Apple’s iTunes gravy train is coming to an end
by Guest Yoni Heisler- 0 replies

Facing competition from all angles, Apple has seen its share of the video sales and rental market fall drastically in recent years. According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Apple's iTunes property now accounts for anywhere between 20 and 35% of all video sales and rentals, a precipitous decline from the 50% market share it enjoyed just five years ago. Intruding upon Apple's market share are the usual suspects, with Amazon in particular now accounting for 20% of the market. What's more, Comcast has also been able to make significant inroads insofar as it offers subscribers with easy access to both video rentals and purchases. All told, Comcast's share of …

Amazon has a patent for an underwater storage facility that looks like something out of...

Amazon has been awarded some interesting patents in recent months, including a storage facility that looks like a beehive. But this latest one may top them all. The technology giant has obtained a patent, entitled "Aquatic Storage Facility," which would let it store products in "a body of liquid." The depth would be controlled by an attached cartridge and "ascend or descend within the liquid, as desired." The cartridge could then be "retrieved upon demand," the filing reads. Astronomers just discovered the smallest star ever
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies

We typically think of stars as colossal balls of fusion-driven fire that absolutely dwarf everything else, but researchers just made a discovery that offers a slightly different perspective. A group of scientists from the University of Cambridge have detected a star that is so small, even one of our own planetary neighbors happens to be larger, and it's assumed to be the absolute smallest a star can possibly be. This is my favorite iOS 11 hidden feature
by Guest Chris Mills- 0 replies

We've already torn through all the big changes that are coming in iOS 11, but it looks like Apple has more in store for us than it first revealed. New versions of the beta have already thrown up new features, and beta 3 on Monday was no different. In the update, Apple quietly introduced a new page of carrier options in the main Settings app. Normally, you don't get much information from your carrier natively within the phone -- you have to go to your account in your carrier's app or on their website to get information like how much data you've used. by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies

Once upon a time, people used to think that coffee would stunt your growth if you drank it as a youngster. In more recent years, coffee intake is regularly blamed for many different symptoms, from high blood pressure to migraines, and even heart palpitations. But science isn't done weighing in on exactly what coffee can do for humanity, and new research suggests that the murky beverage could actually be highly effective at delaying or preventing some extremely serious ailments, including heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and many others. One image shows how far the Tesla Model 3’s design has come
by Guest Yoni Heisler- 0 replies

When Tesla unveiled the Model 3 to the world nearly 16 months ago, Elon Musk made a point of noting that we were only glancing at a Model 3 prototype. So while the vehicular design, in a broad sense, was complete, it was never any secret that the car's final design remained a work in progress. As a quick example, the original Model 3 we saw last year featured a curious trunk design that some quickly categorized as a "design fail" for a variety of reasons. Continue reading... by Guest Peter Holden- 0 replies

Running ads on Facebook’s Messenger app was first mooted in the beginning of 2016 with users in Thailand and Australia testing the home screen ads back in January of this year. Facebook must think the trial was successful as it now plans on bringing the ads to Messenger’s home screen tab to its 1.2 billion […] Come comment on this article: Facebook to begin pushing ads to Messenger on a global scale Visit TalkAndroid News via TalkAndroid

This brilliant Apple Watch accessory puts a wireless charger in your pocket
by Guest Maren Estrada- 0 replies

The Apple Watch’s magnetic conductive charger is so cool. It’s a wonderfully elegant solution that allows Apple to provide a convenient charging solution without having to add a port to the watch. Of course, it also means that you need to carry yet another charging cable with you when you travel. At least, that’s what it used to mean until the Oittm Pocket Sized Apple Watch Travel Charger came along. This brilliant little accessory is MFi certified (Apple approved) and it has a magnetic wireless charging pad built in. It packs 700 mAh of juice so you can charge your Apple Watch on the go, and it charges up with any standard microUSB cable. Here are some highlights from…

These $20 wireless earbuds have everything Apple’s AirPods are missing
by Guest Maren Estrada- 0 replies
Apple's AirPods are terrific earbuds... as long as you're willing to make about half a dozen concessions. First and perhaps most importantly, they take six weeks to ship. Beyond that, they're very expensive, they don't have great battery life, they don't fit very well since they're made of slippery plastic, and they don't have noise isolation or noise cancellation features. Oh and last but certainly not least, they're beyond easy to lose since they're not connected by a cable. If you're a diehard Apple fan and you're willing to go that route, more power to you. But if you're looking for something that checks all the boxes missing from the AirPods' repertoire at a small…

iPhone 8 release date reportedly delayed to October
by Guest Yoni Heisler- 0 replies
Amid reports that Apple is struggling to work out software kinks associated with the iPhone 8's 3D cameras, a new research note from Merrill Lynch (via CNBC) claims that the launch of Apple's next-gen iPhone may be pushed back by three to four weeks. If this timetable pans out, it would mean that the iPhone 8 may not arrive on store shelves until mid-October. While this is certainly frustrating news for anyone eager to upgrade, a mid-October launch isn't all that bad given previous claims that the iPhone 8 release might be pushed all the way back to November. Mesh is the hottest trend in wireless by a landslide, so it was only a matter of time before Linksys got in on the action. And as expected, when the company did finally launch a cutting-edge mesh wireless system for consumers, it was awesome. We spent countless hours digging through all of Amazon's Prime Day deals for the past two days, and the retailer's sale on the Linksys Velop Tri-band Whole Home WiFi Mesh System was easily one of our favorites. It was also a hugely popular sale, but don't despair if you missed out on the action. Why? Because the Velop 3-pack is still on sale at its Prime Day price! With the summer heat scorching the coasts it's not exactly a surprise that you'd find countless families flocking to beaches in search of relief. But for one Florida family, a relaxing dip in the water quickly turned extremely dire as all six of them found themselves swept away by a riptide, far away from the safety of the sand. Luckily for them, the human spirit prevailed, and a massive human chain quite literally saved their lives. Continue reading...
